  • Patent number: 6206376
Abstract: A double lobed seal comprises first and second annular seals, each having a radially inwardly projecting annular lobe that engages against a sealing surface of a valve element in a valve housing to seal the valve element in its closed position. With increasing fluid pressure exerted on the dual lobe seal, the upstream seal is compressed and moves radially away from the valve element sealing surface. This movement allows the fluid under pressure to enter a void between the two annular seals. The increasing fluid pressure in the void exerts a compressive force on the downstream annular seal that causes its annular lobe to move radially inwardly increasing the force of its sealing engagement with the disk valve sealing surface. In this manner, the dual lobe seal increases its sealing effectiveness when subjected to increasing fluid pressures.

  • Patent number: 6168168
Abstract: An improved seal allows a fuel nozzle to be securely fastened to an aircraft refueling adaptor and the seal does not allow fuel to leak or spill. Significantly, the seal is simple to install and remove because the fuel nozzle does not have to be disassembled or removed from the fuel hose and the seal does not have to be bonded to the seal support. The seal is securely attached to the fuel nozzle without the use of adhesives because the seal is much stiffer than conventional seals, and the seal is mechanically retained in a deep annular groove in the seal support structure. The improved seal includes a body with a first leg, a second leg, a cavity and a projection which is attached to the first leg and it extends at least halfway across the width of the cavity. Desirably, the projection extends about two-thirds of the way across the width of the cavity.

  • Patent number: 6152455
Abstract: The expandable band is used to secure a sealing element within a generally cylindrical structure, such as a pipe or manhole, or other round hole. The expandable band includes a band body having a first band end portion and a second band end portion. A plurality of slots are disposed in the first band end portion, and a locking member extends from the second band end portion. The locking member includes a tab for extending through the second band end portion and into one of the plurality of slots to lock the expandable band at the desired diameter. An end section of the second band end portion extends beyond the tab of the locking member to ease the transition between the overlapping first and second band end portions. When the band is expanded, the tab is disengaged from the slots and slides over the slots, allowing the first and second band end portions to move relative to one another. At the desired diameter, the tab engages one of the slots to lock the band at the desired diameter.
