Patent number: 4580328Abstract: The invention relates to a can-type housing made of metal, as a semi-finished product, such as is used, for example, for electrolytic capacitors. Furthermore, the invention relates to a process and a device for reducing the diameter of and flanging such a can-type housing. In the conventional way, the diameter of a can-type housing of this type was reduced from below in the direction of the upper open can edge. As a rule, flanging is carried out by a separate device. The invention improves the conventional measures by rewidening under dry conditions the can-type housing pre-widened under wet conditions. According to the process, the can-type housing provided with the housing widening is then closed from the can edge axially downwards so as to reduce its diameter, this process step being supplemented, in addition, by a further flanging step carried out in the same device.Type: GrantFiled: November 23, 1983Date of Patent: April 8, 1986Inventor: Rudolf Klaschka

Patent number: 4352231Abstract: The present invention is directed to the method of making a dependable, low cost, low pressure accumulator characterized by the provision of a bladder support sub-assembly secured to an end cap member by an annular weld line, the connection between the noted components being effected prior to insertion of the assembly and end cap into a cylindrical pressure vessel component, whereby the opposed surfaces in registry with the weld are exposed to ambient temperatures, eliminating the danger of damage to the bladder in the course of welding. The bladder sub-assembly and end cap are thereafter inserted into and weldingly connected to a pressure vessel, the open mouth portion of which is inwardly deformed to overlie the end cap and retainer portion of the bladder sub-assembly, dependably to secure the components together and to effect the desired seals between adjacent components.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 1981Date of Patent: October 5, 1982Assignee: VSI CorporationInventor: A. Patent number: 4352225Abstract: The lower wall of the pre-formed jacket of a bullet is thicker than the upper portion of the jacket and the uppermost or open end of the pre-formed jacket is deformed on its interior surface to provide a plurality of flat surfaces which are joined by a plurality of axial grooves. An inwardly-extending annular ring having a downwardly sloping upper surface and an upwardly sloping undersurface is formed at a shoulder by compression between the lower, thicker wall and the thinner wall adjoining it and, where the core is pressed into the jacket, the annular ring is deformed so that its undersurface becomes perpendicular to the wall of the jacket, thus engaging and holding the base of the core within the jacket. The core and jacket are subsequently deformed into a conventional dynamic shape.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 1980Date of Patent: October 5, 1982Assignee: Hornady Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Charles J. Patent number: 4274665Abstract: A pipe coupling for application to plain end pipe and pipe pile by a driving force. It provides much greater tensile strength than the double sleeve type of pipe coupling disclosed and claimed in my U.S. Pat. No. 4,053,247 in that it provides greater strength under tension. In one embodiment, a pair of tapered wedge rings are disposed in spaced coaxial relation within an outer cylindrical sleeve having corresponding tapered inner surfaces to provide tapered annular sockets into which pipe sections may be forced or driven to expand the diameter of the pipe. An annular shoulder on the sleeve forms the bottom of the annular sockets. Under tension, the tapered rings wedge the pipe against the outer sleeve to resist axial removal of the pipe from the coupling socket. In another embodiment, the tapered wedge rings are disposed in coaxial relation outside the cylindrical sleeve to form annular tapered sockets which serve to reduce the diameter of the pipe as it is driven into the socket.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 1979Date of Patent: June 23, 1981Inventor: Richard O. Patent number: 4190940Abstract: A thermally sensitive actuator consists of a pressure cylinder comprising a tube, two end closure elements each secured to a respective end of the tube, a body of flowable material contained within the tube between the end closure elements, and a piston extending through a through-bore in one of the end closure elements and projecting into the body of flowable material. During assembly, the said body of flowable material is disposed within the tube between and abutting said end closure elements, while at least one of said end closure elements is not secured to the tube, so that said body of flowable material determines the distance apart of said end closure elements. The end closure elements are secured to the tube by displacing the peripheral edges of the ends of the latter inwardly.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 1977Date of Patent: March 4, 1980Assignee: Tungum Hydraulics LimitedInventor: Anthony J. Patent number: 4134200Abstract: An electromagnetic sound generator, such as an automobile horn, has a thin-walled ferromagnetic housing closed at one end by a membrane which carries an armature extending into an electromagnetic coil mounted in the housing. The rim of the membrane is embraced by a deformable peripheral housing wall bent back upon itself to form an outwardly projecting peripheral flange with a bight portion radially spaced from the membrane, the housing wall extending axially beyond this flange to engage a resonator adjoining the membrane. The armature has an eccentric lug which coacts with a contact spring of an interrupter in series with the coil and which can be limitedly adjusted, by rotation of the armature about its axis, to shift its point of engagement with the contact spring for varying the moment arm of the spring and thus the natural frequency of the sound generator.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 1977Date of Patent: January 16, 1979Assignee: FIAMM S.p.A.
