Abstract: A technique provides a cable protector in the form of a modular unit having a protector shell and at least one removable insert. The removable insert is constructed with gaps which are sized to grippingly engage a cable. Accordingly, a properly sized removable insert is selected for use with a given cable and then inserted into the protector shell. The cable protector may then be secured to a tubing, e.g. a well tubing, by an appropriate tubing coupling. In some embodiments, the tubing coupling is coupled about the tubing via a threaded fastener which may be held in place by a back off preventer.

Abstract: Vibration damping is important with regard to such components as hollow turbine blades in gas turbine engines. Traditionally damping has occurred through damping elements secured at the root or tip of such blades. Such damping is not optimised and results in potential problems with wear in operational life. By providing a tube of deformable material which can be located within a hollow cavity it is possible to provide an element which through friction engagement can absorb vibration energy and therefore damp such vibration. The tube incorporates a number of cuts and/or grooves in an appropriate pattern in order to define a deformation profile once the tube is expanded in location. The tube is secured in position internally upon an expandable element which is typically an inflatable device. Once in position the tube is retained in its expanded deformable profile and the engagement between the tube and the hollow cavity wall surface results in energy absorption through vibration episodes.

Abstract: A unique tube punch forming die assembly and process is disclosed for forming a bead lock on a malleable fluid conveyance tube which provides for the attachment of a fluid connector to the tube. The fluid connector is held in the tube punch forming die constituting a die assembly where a forming groove is machined in the internal cavity of the fluid connector for forming a bead lock within the inside of the fluid connector when the punch forming die is compressed into the tube. The tube is first inserted into the punch forming die, then the die is punched to buckle the tube to form a bead lock in the tube inside the fluid connector as the end of the tube held in a cylindrical support ring. In a second embodiment a plurality of serrations are formed inside the fluid connector and the tube is forced against the serrations to improve the retention of the tube.

Abstract: An alignment device is located on a mandrel of an installation tool and is used to align a structural member in an opening of a workpiece while seating a radial flange of the structural member against a first surface of the workpiece. The alignment device comprises a disk-shaped device having an outer surface, an inner surface forming an opening through the alignment device, and where the opening is sized to be at least slightly smaller than a major diameter of an expansion portion of the mandrel. In one embodiment, the alignment is nylon to allow the inner surface of the alignment device to be repeatedly, radially expanded and yet the opening formed by the inner surface returns to its original size.

Abstract: A core adapter is provided for adapting a larger diameter core to be mounted on a winding machine designed for a smaller diameter core. The core adapter includes a cylindrical body having a wall, a central bore, an outer surface, and a discontinuity in the form of a slit extending axially along and completely through the wall. The core adapter can be inserted in an end of a core and progressively secured by expanding the body, facilitated by a widening of the slit, until the body wedges against the inside surface of the core. Adhesive can be applied to the adapter or the core or both to secure the core adapter in place. The body can be expanded with screws progressively threaded through the core and into the body of the core adapter, or vice versa. Alternatively, the body can be expanded by urging a wedge into the slit to widen the slit and consequently expand the body of the core adapter radially.

Abstract: A machining method of a shredding cutter includes steps of (a) assembling blades on a cutter shaft to be machined, and pre-locating the blades on the cutter shaft by a clamp; (b) rolling or extruding the cutter shaft at positions between the blades by a rolling cutter, so that the cutter shaft between the adjacent blades is formed with embossed parts on two flanks of each of the blades; and (c) withdrawing the rolling cutter, and each of the blades being fixed on the cutter shaft by the embossed parts on the two flanks thereof. A shredding cutter machined by the machining method mentioned above includes a cutter shaft and a plurality of blades, the blades are arranged on the cutter shaft with a predetermined spacing, embossed parts are formed on the cutter shaft between the adjacent blades, and the blades are fixed between the embossed parts. The present invention has a strong unitary structure, high precision, high yield, which is beneficial to reduce the processing cost and the cost of materials.

Abstract: A riser tensioner cylinder rod incorporates a thin, corrosion-resistant alloy tube over a pre-machined steel alloy rod. The tube is swedged at one end and expanded to the inner surface of a split die. A gradual tapered surface on a stretching die provides a smooth transition during a stretching process for the tube. A pressurizing vessel traps an outer lip of the pre-swedged tube. Pressurized fluid in the vessel simultaneously causes the tube to expand and force the rod into the tube inner diameter. At the completion of the process, the pressurizing vessel is removed. The stretched tube is parted off at both ends and the stretching die is removed from the rod to complete the assembly.

Abstract: An adapter integrates a tail piece and connection for coupling to plumbing fittings utilizing a union nut or flange and provides a press-fit connection to the tail piece for installation in the system. The method of manufacturing the adapter comprises the steps of forming a flange on a section of conduit; placing a threaded union nut or mounting flange over the flange fitting; roll-forming an internal, concave annular recess into the section of conduit extending from the nut and inserting an O-ring into the recess for completing the adapter. The adapter can then be sealably attached to a plumbing fitting, such as a valve or the like, utilizing a conventional flat gasket between the flange of the adapter and the plumbing fitting. The installation is completed by inserting a conduit into the adapter to clear the O-ring and crimping the bead formed by the recess to complete the sealed connection.
