  • Patent number: 7895737
Abstract: A winding machine (1) for winding solenoid-shaped coils (21) with band-shaped conductors (6), comprising a winding means (3) which holds a circular-cylindrical coil core (2) of a coil (21) to be wound, and a winding drive which rotates a coil core (2), which is held in the winding means (3), about a winding axis W, wherein the winding means (3) can be moved in a first direction A by an axial drive, the direction A preferably extending approximately parallel to the winding axis W, is characterized in that the winding means (3) can be rotated about a pivot axis S by a pivot drive, wherein the pivot axis S extends perpendicularly to the direction A. The winding machine winds a solenoid-shaped coil with several layers of a band-shaped conductor without damaging the band-shaped conductor, in particular, when the band-shaped conductor contains brittle superconducting material.

Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus for protecting a device from water damage. The apparatus is capable of being repeatedly opened and then hermetically sealed even when the device has a wire that must be extended outside of the apparatus. The present invention comprises a housing having at least two members that, when juxtaposed and clamped, form a dry interior region. More specifically, each member includes a pair of gaskets that together define the dry interior region and substantially form a hermetic seal about a pouch or container. The apparatus includes a portal through which the wire may extend from a device inside the pouch or container to the outside and a slide mechanism that adjust a gasket around the wire to maintain the dry interior region. The slide mechanism forms a hermetic seal around the wire so that the opening in the pouch from which the wire extends is hermetically sealed. If no wire is present, the slide mechanism may be adjusted to maintain the hermetic seal.

It consists of connecting the steel (6) to a discrete sacrificial anode assembly (7) comprising a base metal (1), a relatively small quantity of catalytic activating agent in contact with the base metal and a substantially inert porous layer (3) that surrounds the base metal and catalytic activating agent. The inert porous layer efficiently maintains a sustainable concentration gradient of the catalytic activating agent between the base metal and the surrounding environment as a result of the electric field across this layer. The preferred porous layer comprises a material that exhibits a net repulsion of negative ions from its pore system and the preferred catalytic activating agent comprises doubly charged sulphate ions as small electric fields maintain very high concentration gradients of these ions resulting in high concentrations at the base metal surface and insignificant concentrations at the assembly periphery.

  • Patent number: 7565740
Abstract: A method of preparing the end of a coaxial cable for insertion within a coaxial cable connector involves stripping the cable jacket from the end of the cable, and reducing the outer diameter of the cable jacket portion lying adjacent the stripped portion of the jacket to a relatively constant reduced diameter. The reduced diameter portion of the cable jacket can then be reliably sealed to the back nut of the coaxial connector by an O-ring. A related preparation tool is disclosed for simultaneously stripping the cable jacket from the end of the cable, and reducing the outer diameter of the cable jacket portion lying adjacent the stripped portion, as the tool is rotated about the end of the coaxial cable. The tool may also serve to remove a portion of the outer conductor, as well as a coring member to remove dielectric surrounding the inner conductor of the cable.

  • Patent number: 7565734
Abstract: An induction forging coil apparatus which makes induction forge coils easier and faster to change on a forge-line. The coil insert is a separate independent unit by itself which slides into the frame to connect to the frame via bus connections and other components. The coil insert is attached to the frame (another separate independent unit by itself) to complete the overall induction heating coil. The induction coil (with both units attached and operatively interconnected) can run on the forge line until it blows/fails, and instead of pulling the whole induction coil (both units attached) off-line to be rebuilt; the frame can be left on-line (or pulled off-line for a brief period of time if there is not enough room to reach the components due to the particular forge-line setup) to switch the failed insert with a new or rebuilt insert, by disconnecting the failed coil insert from the frame and then reconnecting the frame with the new or rebuilt coil insert.

Abstract: In a method for longitudinal sealing of electrical conductors (2) that comprise one or more conductor elements (21) disposed inside an external sheath (22), and comprise cavities (23) between the individual conductor elements (21) and between the individual conductor elements (21) and the external sheath (22), according to the present invention the one end (2a), requiring sealing, of the conductor (2) is immersed in a liquid sealing compound (3), and the other end (2b) of the conductor (2) has negative pressure applied to it. A sealing apparatus (1) suitable for carrying out said method encompasses a supply reservoir (4) for the liquid sealing compound (3) into which the one end (2a), requiring sealing, of the conductor (2) is immersed; and a negative-pressure source (5) to which the other end (2b) of the conductor (2) is connected.

  • Patent number: 7562449
Abstract: Inwardly-directed projecting portions (2, 3) are formed in a bent manner respectively at distal ends of a pair of clamping piece portions (4, 5) which are continuous with each other, and form a wire connection portion (7) of a terminal (1). A conductor portion (9) of a wire (8) is located on the inner sides of the pair of clamping piece portions (4, 5), and the pair of clamping piece portions are pressed over an entire periphery into a circular shape, and are extended in a peripheral direction, thereby causing projecting extension portions (2?, 3?), including the projecting portions (2, 3), to bite into the conductor portion. Before the pressing operation, the pair of clamping piece portions (4, 5) may be provisionally pressed to be curved, thereby causing distal ends of the projecting portions (2, 3) to bite slightly into an outer peripheral surface of the conductor portion (9).

Abstract: A fuel cell module includes a number of series-connected fuel cells which collectively form a fuel cell stack in such a way that the magnetic field or stray field that is generated during the operation of the fuel cell module and that is detectable in an outer area is kept particularly small. To this end, the invention provides that a number of shielding lines that are connected to a first pole flange of the fuel cell stack are provided, these shielding lines being guided on the outer area of the fuel cell stack, as far as a contact area to a second pole flange of the fuel cell stack.

  • Patent number: 7546680
Abstract: A method and associated equipment for replacing existing overhead transmission line conductors with new ones while the transmission line remains in service and carrying power. The invention uses the old conductor to pull the new conductor through a series of sheaves installed at the bottom of each tower insulator. Conventional tension-stringing principles are used to assure that both the old and new conductors maintain a safe distance from ground. To achieve this, both the pulling and tensioning (braking) equipment, as well as supply and take-up reels or drums may be elevated to power line voltage and the current is transferred between new conductor and old, while in transit to the line, by means of a brush system and a conducting wheel which may or may not be integral with pulling and tensioning equipment.
