Process For Making Bearing Or Component Thereof Patents (Class 29/898)
  • Patent number: 5313703
Abstract: A method for making a bearing cap in which the bearing cap has first and second parts with precisely mating surfaces. The first part is cast such that the mating surfaces thereof are formed with protrusions terminating in enlarged heads. The second part is cast in place against the first part such precisely mating surfaces are formed with the second part enveloping the protrusions. The two parts thus cast are forced apart from each other such that the protrusions fracture across the narrowed neck portions by which the heads are joined.

  • Patent number: 5290374
Abstract: A pin type retainer for roller bearings is stamped in one piece from flat metal stock. The flat metal is first drawn into a cup shape having a broad flange around an open first end and a closed second end. The closed end provides solid support and alignment while stamping pins from the broad flange. The pins are then final shaped by swaging or machining into cross sectional forms for a variety of applications. The second end is then opened to form a ring. The pin type retainer can be modified for use with a retaining ring or a seal against contaminants. The pin type retainer can be formed from a variety of materials, including steel. An embodiment using plastic resin is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5255424
Abstract: For the manufacture of a heavy duty elastomeric having a stack of elastomeric and metal reinforcing layers interleaved with one another use is made of a mould sufficiently large to allow an elastomeric cover layer to be formed and cured simultaneous with compression and cure of the elastomeric layers. Relative transverse movement of the metal layers during compression is restricted by spacers which occupy in the mould a small part of the space that in the finished product is to be occupied by the cover layer. Subsequent to moulding and cure the spacers are removed and the resulting spaces in the part formed cover are filled.

  • Patent number: 5248361
Abstract: To make a laminated flexible bearing constituted by rigid reinforcing layers made of composite material alternating with layers of rubber or elastomer, each reinforcing layer is formed by winding a resin preimpregnated thread directly on the underlying layer of rubber or elastomer. Advantageously, the flexible bearing is made by alternating layers formed by winding a resin pre-impregnated thread and layers formed of non-vulcanized rubber or elastomer, after which the resin is polymerized and the rubber or elastomer is vulcanized simultaneously.

  • Patent number: 5199170
Abstract: This invention pertains to a method of manufacturing a half-split bearing, comprising the steps of: providing a blank having a width corresponding to a width of a final said half split bearing: first bending opposite ends of the blank by a first punch and die set while restraining a central portion of the blank in a wall-thickness wise direction, the restraining produced by clamping the blank between a restrainer located centrally on the punch of the first punch and die set and the die of said set, thereby forming a partially processed bent blank having first bending; further, bending in a second stage said partially processed bent blank by a second punch and die set beginning at points between the first bendings and said restrained a central portion while continuing to restrain restraining the central portion of the partially processed bent blank in the wall-thickness wise direction, the restraining produced by clamping the partially processed bent blank between a restrainer located centrally on the punch of

  • Patent number: 5129148
Abstract: A method for making a non-metallic rod end bearing assembly to be interconnected with a control rod. The assembly comprises a rod end bearing and a hollow collar, such that the rod end bearing can be coupled to one end of the control rod by way of the collar. The rod end bearing and hollow collar are made by first impregnating respective reinforcement of non-metallic fibers with a resin. The resin impregnated fibers are then compression molded into the desired shape. By virtue of the present method, a rod end bearing assembly is available which is characterized by a longer life, greater resistance to corrosion and wear, and a superior weight-to-strength ratio relative to conventional rod end bearing assemblies that are manufactured from metal.

  • Patent number: 5114521
Abstract: A method for producing a sliding coupling, w hich comprises injecting a casting material comprising the following components (A) and (B) into a clearance between a bearing and a shaft fitted in and rotatably or reciprocatively supported by the bearing, wherein a primer is preliminarily applied to either the shaft or the bearing and a releasing agent is preliminarily applied to the other; followed by polymerization and curing to form a resin lining on the surface of the shaft or the bearing:(A) a .OMEGA.-lactam liquid containing a polymerization catalyst of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal compound; and(B) a .OMEGA.-lactam liquid containing at least one polymerization initiator.

  • Patent number: 5074458
Abstract: There is disclosed a method of producing a bimetal for use as a material for a plain bearing. A copper alloy powder is placed on a back steel. The back metal and the copper alloy powder are preheated to a temperature near a Curie point of the steel in a reducing atmosphere by high-frequency induction heating. The preheated back steel and copper alloy powder are heated to a temperature of 770.degree. C. to 950.degree. C. in one of an electric resistance furnace and a gas furnace in a reducing atmosphere so that the copper alloy powder is sintered to form a sintered copper alloy layer and at the same time the sintered copper alloy layer is bonded to the back steel, thereby producing the bimetal.
