  • Patent number: 7392598
Abstract: A method and a device for measuring the dimensions of a constant velocity joint. In the method, for example, the cylindrical part of an outer member with a specified offset value is supported on the support part of a dimension measuring device for the outer member. On the other hand, a holding bar is inserted into a recessed part formed in the shaft part of the outer member. In this case, balls installed at the tip of the support part are inserted into the ball grooves of the cylindrical part. In this state, a rotating member is rotated to bring a probe into contact with the inside wall of the cylindrical part. The measurement core of a micro gauge is displaced according to the displacement of the probe, and the amount of the displacement thereof is displayed as the amount of the variation of the needle of the micro gauge.

  • Patent number: 7384081
Abstract: Extending sections are positioned along X and Y directions by engagement sections, and positioned along Y direction of a vehicle by positioning sections using mounts of a rear bumper. This makes it possible to accurately indicate a forming position of a vehicular-part mounting hole, which is needed to mount a rear under spoiler, with respect to the rear bumper based on a scribed mark if the extending sections are positioned by using the engagement sections and the positioning sections. Therefore, a worker can form a vehicular-part mounting hole in an appropriate position by merely making a hole in the position of the scribed mark, without requiring a work of removing the rear bumper.

Abstract: A system for measuring the height of a wind deflector mounted to the roof of a vehicle. A longitudinal base has a first end, an opposing second end, a generally planar top surface and a generally planar bottom surface. An adjustable stop is proximate the first end of the base and extends away from the bottom surface. A level indicator is affixed to the top surface of the base. An arm is spaced apart from the top surface of the base, and a displacement indicator is affixed to the arm. The displacement indicator displays information relating to the height of the wind deflector above the roof when the second end of the base contacts the wind deflector proximate the roof, the level indicator indicates that the base is on a level plane, and the displacement indicator is in contact with a top edge of the wind deflector.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a system for viewing coordinates representative of points on a vehicle, which includes a portable gauge assembly (52) having a length of bar (62) graduations (64), an adjustable pointer mount (76) and adjustable pointer (78) for simultaneously setting coordinates representative of a height and width or height and length dimension of a point on the vehicle and an adjustable positioning means (66) for setting a coordinate representative of a baseline of light emitted relative to the vehicle. Positioning means (66) is further used for adjusting bar (62) level and perpendicular to the baseline when gauge (52) is spatially place relative to the point on the vehicle and the baseline, whereby the coordinates may then be viewed at pointer mount (76) or transferred a spatial location within the path of the baseline and viewed at positioning means (66).

Integral to this alignment tool is a low energy visible light laser that can be adjusted to point along the signal axis of the ACC sensor subassembly with stable and calibratable precision. The point at which a visible laser light beam strikes a reference surface can reveal the alignment of the ACC sensor subassembly with respect to the vehicle.

Abstract: A manual steering column stamping fixture includes a body member and a linear bearing assembly. The linear bearing assembly is secured to the body member, and includes a marking punch that is driven into engagement with a steering column so as to place an alignment mark on the steering column. Once a center or neutral position of the steering column is located using a checking fixture, the stamping fixture is mounted over the checking fixture using cooperating slots provided by the body member and arms provided by the checking fixture, and such that the marking punch is disposed within the checking fixture and adjacent the steering column. Thereafter, the marking punch is manually moved away from the steering column and against spring bias such that, upon subsequent release of the bearing assembly, the marking punch is driven into the steering column to mark the steering column.

Abstract: A gauge (100) for measuring wear of a trailer kingpin (10) provides, for each of the base (20) and shank (30) parts of a kingpin, two contiguous slots (118 and 120, and 114 and 116, respectively), one slot (118, 114) sized to indicate sufficient wear to warrant scheduling replacement or rebuilding, and the other, more lateral slot (120, 116), sized to indicate failure due to excessive wear. In described embodiments, the two pairs of contiguous slots (118 and 120, 114 and 116) are joined in the middle of the gauge (100) by an entrance area (112). A respective kingpin base (20) or shank (30) that does not pass, at its widest point, from the entrance area (112) into the respective slot (118, 114) has not worn to the point of warranting replacement or rebuilding.
