  • Publication number: 20020014825
Abstract: The present invention relates to a deflection unit for mounting on an in-line type cathode ray tube comprising a coil body including grooves for receiving wound coil wires, the grooves extending substantially in a straight line. The groove extension of at least one groove is changed at at least one location such that the coil wires received in the groove become curved in the area of the changed groove extension. In a preferred embodiment the grooves are separated from each other by groove walls which in the area of the changed groove extension comprise a thickening and optionally a bulge. The coil wires wound onto the coil body form the horizontal coil or the vertical coil. The arrangement serves the selective fine adjustment of the deflection fields for eliminating convergence, coma and/or geometry errors.

The keeper area may contain apertures which are not used for collimation and into which electrons are prevented from entering by a grid electrode or by a physical blocking means.

Abstract: A composite magnetic lens and deflector for particle beam optical systems has a concentric gap and concentric conical lower pole pieces arranged to allow more accurate magnetic deflection. The flux generated by a solenoidal lens coil is shared by magnetically soft inner and higher saturation flux outer pole pieces to minimize saturation effects, while the flux generated by internal deflection coils is confined to magnetically soft inner pole pieces that minimize flux leakage and associated eddy current settling effects. Shielding rings further contain leakage flux. The inner magnetic circuit is mounted and adhesively bonded to radial flexures to minimize thermal expansion drifts.

Abstract: Electromagnetic deflectors and methods for their manufacture are disclosed. The excitation coils inside such deflectors can be situated relative to each other and to an optical axis with a high degree of accuracy and precision. A pair of loop-shaped channels are formed opposite each other in the sides of a cylindrical insulating cylinder. An electrically conductive material is embedded in the channels to form a set of opposing coils operable to deflect a charged particle beam passing axially through the cylinder in one dimension. Multiple cylinders each comprising a set of opposing coils can be concentrically assembled to provide, e.g., a biaxial deflector operable to deflect the beam in an X-dimension and a Y-dimension. In such a biaxial deflector, the sets of coils are arranged perpendicular to each other. The cylinder(s) is placed concentrically inside a cylindrical outer casing made of a ferromagnetic material such as ferrite to make an electromagnetic deflector.

Abstract: A permanent magnet rectangular bar shaped to form a helix having a central ore and a longitudinal axis. The magnetic orientation of the helical permanent magnet bar is along the longitudinal axis forming a transverse helical magnetic field. An electron beam or charged particle passing near the longitudinal axis experiences acceleration causing the charged particles to radiate creating a high energy radiation source. In another embodiment, first and second permanent magnet helical bars are intertwined together, forming a cylindrical tube, with each of the intertwined helical bars having a magnetic orientation along the longitudinal axis in opposing directions. In another embodiment of the present invention, an iron ribbon or other high permeability magnetic material is interposed between cut-out portions between first and second intertwined helical permanent magnet bars. This effectively augments the transverse magnetic field.
