Controlled electrical signals are applied respectively to row electrodes and to column electrodes of the screen. A plurality of rows are simultaneously addressed using similar row signals that are offset in time by a duration greater than or equal to the time column voltages that are applied. The row addressing signals have, in a first period, at least one voltage value serving to break the anchoring of all of the pixels in the row. This is followed by a second period that enables the final states of the pixels making up the address row to be determined. The final states are a function of the value of each of the electrical signals applied to the corresponding columns.

  • Patent number: 7190332
Abstract: An acoustically activated marketing for displaying predefined information in response to predefined data being received. The device is obtained from a retailer and worn as a badge while at the cinema or while listening to the radio or TV. When a specific advertisement is broadcast, the badge interprets part of the sound track and activates the display on the badge. The displayed information may be an advertisement or a message. The predefined data may be broadcast by a commercial broadcasting means, such as a television or radio.

  • Patent number: 7184003
Abstract: A novel personal electronic device includes a first (embedded) and second (non-embedded) processors including associated operating systems and functions. In one aspect, the first processor performs relatively limited functions, while the second processor performs relatively broader functions under control of the first processor. Often the second processor requires more power than the first processor and is selectively operated by the first processor to minimize overall power consumption. Protocols for functions to be performed by the second processor may be provided directly to the second processor and processed by the second processor. In another aspect, a display controller is designed to interface with both processors. In another aspect, the operating systems work with one another. In another aspect, the first processor employs a thermal control program. Advantages of the invention include a broad array of functions performed by a relatively small personal electronics device.

  • Patent number: 7167143
Abstract: The present application describes a system and method for determining characteristics (e.g., exact band location, orientation and height and the spot shape and size of a single wavelength and the like) of an optical signal projected on a spatial light modulator. In an embodiment, images with sharper edges (i.e. clear boundary between ‘on’ pixels and ‘off’ pixels) on the spatial light modulator are used to obtain spectral information from a referenced broadband source. The spectral information can be used to determine the desired characteristics of optical signals projected on the spatial light modulator.

  • Patent number: 7164393
Abstract: A first pattern is created by providing an image and its enantiomorph on opposite sides of an axis of bilateral symmetry and selectively removing elements from the image and its enantiomorph without removing any element from both the image and its enantiomorph. A second pattern is created, being an enantiomorph of the first pattern. The patterns are rotated relative to each other about a common axis with both patterns visible to a viewer, whereby an intelligible pattern having at least one axis of bilateral symmetry is formed by a combination of the patterns at at least one position of the first pattern relative to the second pattern. At other positions the intelligible pattern is present only in an encoded fashion. The encoding is done by ensuring that elements are missing from the first pattern so that it is unable in itself to constitute an intelligible design, the missing elements being supplied when the first pattern is appropriately combined with the second pattern.

  • Patent number: 7098872
Abstract: A process and system for interactively displaying large (more than 1 million voxels) volumetric 3D images utilizing a sequence of helical slices of a 3D data set to generate a series of 2D images on a reflective surface of a light modulator. The series of 2D images generated on the light modulator are projected into a volumetric 3D-space display using an illumination light source and projection optics. Voxels in 3D space are illuminated for each 2D projected image, each voxel being located at its corresponding spatial location. A pulse from a wireless pulsed laser pointer forms a 3D bright voxel within the display volume. The pulse signal is synchronized with the rotating helix, and the orientation of the pointer and the phase of the pulse are controlled by the user to specify a 3D point in 3D space. A wireless receiver provides six degree-of-freedom (DOF) position of the spatial location of the pointer, as well as the phase signal.
