Abstract: Direct current circuits always require a voltage source consisting of a positive voltage and a ground. To power a plurality of a direct current circuit nodes one must traditionally supply a power supply line and a ground line to each circuit node. To simplify wiring, a single conductor system of powering a plurality of circuit nodes is disclosed wherein each circuit node has only two external connections and the circuit nodes are coupled in series. Specifically, each individual circuit node has an integrated circuit and a capacitor. A power circuit within the integrated circuit then directs current from an input into the capacitor to create a local power supply and shunts current from the input to an output when not directing current into the capacitor.

Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus for dissipating charge buildup within a display element with a conductive layer. The conductive layer is maintained in electrical contact with a fluid within the display element. The fluid, in turn, remains in contact with light modulators within the display elements. Any charge buildup that may be caused by the filling of the fluid during fabrication of the display device, or during operation of the light modulators can be dissipated by the conductive layer. Thus, by dissipating the charge buildup, the conductive layer reduces or eliminates electrostatic forces due to the charge buildup that may affect the operability of the light modulators. The display can include conductive spacers in an active display region of the display and a spacer-free region that allows the substrates to deform while retaining an electrical connection between the conductive layer and the spacers in the active display region.

Abstract: Methods are provided for reordering operations in execution of an effect graph by graphics processing unit. Memory availability is evaluated for storing images rendered using the effect graph. Memory is allocated for multiple parallel intermediate textures that store images. Operations that write to these textures are executed. It is then determined that there is not sufficient memory to perform additional parallel operations. The memory currently allocated is flushed, and memory for an upper-level texture is allocated. The operations that write pixels to the upper-level texture are executed.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide language support for CPU-GPU platforms. In one embodiment, code can be flexibly executed on both the CPU and GPU. CPU code can offload a kernel to the GPU. That kernel may in turn call preexisting libraries on the CPU, or make other calls into CPU functions. This allows an application to be built without requiring the entire call chain to be recompiled. Additionally, in one embodiment data may be shared seamlessly between CPU and GPU. This includes sharing objects that may have virtual functions. Embodiments thus ensure the right virtual function gets invoked on the CPU or the GPU if a virtual function is called by either the CPU or GPU.

Abstract: A method for intercepting graphics device interface invocations by using filter driver which is transparent to graphics device interface engine and real display driver is disclosed. The method comprises steps of duplicating DDI function table returned from said real display driver, modifying DDI functions of said real display driver required for capturing screen update, creating auxiliary buffer area as updating buffer area for said screen update, and further processing said updating buffer area. With the method of the present invention, the support to video and 3D acceleration in the local computer can be realized by means of software, and the user can be provided with high-quality picture and display effect. Compared with the Mirror system in the prior art, since the present invention doesn't employ the Mirror system, the graphics device interface engine of the inventive system are not aware of the existence of the filter driver, the video and 3D acceleration function of the graphic card still remains.

Abstract: Many computing device may now include two or more graphics subsystems. The multiple graphics subsystems may have different abilities, and may, for example, consume differing amount of electrical power, with one subsystem consuming more average power than the others. The higher power consuming graphics subsystem may be coupled to the device and used instead of, or in addition to, the lower power consuming graphics subsystem, resulting in higher performance or additional capabilities, but increased overall power consumption. By transitioning from the use of the higher power consuming graphics subsystem to the lower power consuming graphics subsystem, while placing the higher power consuming graphics subsystem in a lower power consumption mode, overall power consumption is reduced. A processor executes application software and driver software. The driver software includes first and second driver components for respectively controlling operation of the first and second graphics subsystems.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing display image refresh in bursts to a display device. A buffered refresh controller includes capabilities to drive the display based on video signals generated from a local frame buffer at a first rate. The graphics controller may optimally be configured to burst a new frame of pixel data to the buffered refresh controller at a second rate to replace the previous frame of pixel data in the local frame buffer. The second rate is different than the first rate. Additionally, the graphics controller may send frames only when they contain new pixel data. By enabling the graphics controller to selectively transmit the new frame of pixel data at the second rate, higher than the first rate, the graphics controller may be placed in a power-saving state during at least a portion of each frame update.
