Abstract: A method may include receiving data pixels of a color image and mapping the color image to display pixels of a display device. Data pixels may have first and second color components, each component having an associated color property. Display pixels may have two or more sub-pixels. The mapping may include mapping a first color component of a first data pixel to a first sub-pixel of a first display pixel, mapping a second color component of a second data pixel to a second sub-pixel of the first display pixel, and storing the first and second color components in a memory. One or more sub-pixel locations in a color filter array map may be selected to diffuse quantization error. The method may include determining a first quantized color component, determining a first quantization error, and diffusing the first quantization error to the selected one or more sub-pixel locations. An embodiment is directed to a processor.

Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention sets forth a technique for improving path rendering on computer systems with an available graphics processing unit. The technique involves reducing complex path objects to simpler geometric objects suitable for rendering on a graphics processing unit. The process involves a central processing unit “baking” a set of complex path rendering objects to generate a set of simpler graphics objects. A graphics processing unit then renders the simpler graphics objects. This division of processing load can advantageously yield higher overall rendering performance.

Abstract: A system and method for applying non-homogeneous properties to multiple video processing units (VPUs) in a multiple VPU system are described. Respective VPUs in the system cooperate to produce a frame to be displayed. In various embodiments, data output by different VPUs in the system is combined, or merged, or composited to produce a frame to be displayed. In load balancing modes, each VPU in the system performs different tasks as part of rendering a same frame, and therefore typically executes different commands. In various embodiments, efficiency of the system is enhanced by forming a single command buffer for execution by all of the VPUs in the system even though each VPU may have a different set of commands to execute in the command buffer.

Abstract: One method embodiment executes a director. The director invokes at least one “active stamp” when processing data, where each of the active stamps relates to a different data manipulation method. The active stamps comprise specialized, portable and dynamic logic processes generically applicable to a plurality of different directors such that each of the active stamps can be individually invoked by each of the different directors to perform the same operation for each of the different directors. The invoking of the active stamps by the director calls the active stamps from a resource in a structure that allows each of the different directors to individually access each of the active stamps that correspond to a current data manipulation process being invoked by each of the different directors. Because the director calls the active stamps at run time of the processing of the data, the active stamps avoid having to be compiled with the director.

The data transfer protocol may be used between a graphics processing unit and a video output encoder unit. The data transfers may include up to 20 pixels per arbitration cycle. By packing pixel data for transfer over a bus with a relatively small set of output pins, overall package pin count is reduced, while maintaining sufficient bandwidth to carry the pixel data the output pins. By moving the analog circuitry to a separate device, linked to the GPU via the bus, noise from the GPU may be effectively mitigate through physical separation.

An exemplary method includes a multi-screen casting system establishing a multi-screen display relationship between a mobile device and a set-top-box device, identifying data associated with a graphical user interface display of the mobile device, and transmitting the identified data associated with the graphical user interface display of the mobile device to the set-top-box device for display by a display device associated with the set-top-box device. Corresponding methods and systems are also disclosed.

Abstract: A graphic data processing module includes a system interface for receiving image data streams, a shift register connected to the system interface, a timing generator connected to the system interface and the shift register, and a graphic display data random access memory (GDDRAM) connected to the shift register. The timing generator generates a clock signal and inputs the clock signal to the shift register, the shift register is controlled by the clock signal to receive image data streams in a first format from the system interface and convert the data of each pixel in the image data streams into data in a second format using fewer bits than the first format, and the data in the second format is transmitted to the GDDRAM.

Abstract: The subject invention relates to a Universal Graphics Adapter (UGA) that is a hardware-independent design that encapsulates and abstracts low-level graphics hardware in a standard manner through firmware. UGA is a firmware standard, intended to wrap existing or planned hardware, including VGA. UGA does not require the use of real-mode assembly language, direct hardware register, or frame buffer access to program, thus providing advantages over conventional systems. UGA supports basic drawing operations, continuous display modes, and power management. As a firmware-based standard, UGA facilitates updating a system to support both evolving and new hardware features. UGA includes the capability to determine ranges of output display capabilities for multiple devices and determine an overlap in capabilities of the multiple devices.
