Abstract: Determination of a grid structure for a set of values in a device color space, in which heuristics are applied to a collection of color sample data in order to determine the structure of a look-up table that best fits the samples. Sampling data is sorted for each channel thereof, and the number of steps in each channel is counted. The data is checked for completeness. Steps are removed if they do not correspond to steps on the axes of a three-dimensional cube. If, as a result of step removal, a full LUT has been obtained, then the structure of the LUT has been determined and the process ends. On the other hand, if a full LUT has not been obtained, then steps are removed if they are under-correlated with other steps.

Abstract: The management of color presented at end point devices such as a display or printer is based on the implementation of a Color Management Resource (herein also CMR). A CMR is an architected resource stored accessibly to a print server or other processor that is used to carry all of the color management information required to render a print file, document, page, or data object. The invention here described is particularly focused on a color conversion type of CMR and defines a new type here called a Link Color Conversion CMR. In particular, a unique descriptor is tied to each input and output color conversion rule. A linked color conversion rule, created by combining the input and output color conversion, is created. The linked color conversion structure contains three parts—the descriptor of the input color conversion rule, the descriptor of the output color conversion rule, and the combined color conversion rule.

Abstract: A display color-correcting system is provided. Color response values are measured that go into the vertices of polyhedra in a cubic color output space of the display. A set of corresponding values for the display is built from intermediate values determined between the measured color response values. The intermediate values are determined by decomposition and interpolation of interpolation volumes in the cubic color output space. Each of the interpolation volumes is the combined volume of a selected polyhedron within the cubic color output space and a predetermined volume of space between the selected polyhedron and the next polyhedron within the cubic color output space. The set of corresponding values is converted into decoupled RGB adjustment values that specify the RGB signals independently for the display to produce corrected colors. The RGB adjustment values are saved into one or more look-up tables.

Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for decimating an indexed set of data elements to generate a decimated set of data elements. The indexed set of data elements are grouped into groups of at least two data elements per group. The indexes of the data elements in each group are used to address a look-up-table (LUT) that is pre-programmed to perform the decimation operation. For each group of data elements presented to address the LUT, a decimated data value is output from the LUT. The decimated data value is a function of the data values of the corresponding data elements addressing the LUT.

Abstract: When printing image data obtained by an input device, the present invention is intended to effectively utilize the color reproduction area of the printer. An image data processing method of the present invention comprises the steps of scale-down shifting a first color space point outside a maximum color reproduction area of an output unit to a second color space point within the maximum color reproduction area of the output unit; computing an amount of shift by which the first color space point is shifted to the second color space point; converting the second color space point to a third color space point within a color reproduction area smaller than the maximum color reproduction area of the output unit; and outputting an image to the output unit using image data obtained by scale-up shifting the third color space point to a fourth color space point within the maximum color reproduction area of the output unit based on the computed shift amount.

  • Patent number: 7742058
Abstract: An output color profile, such as an ICC output profile, contains a look-up table to separate the color of a pixel, for example a CIELAB color, into a set of colorant values, for example CMYK colorants. In practice, most CMYK images have been separated using one of a limited set of standardized output profiles. The problem to be solved is guessing which one of these standardized output profiles has been used to separate a specific image. For this purpose the CMYK values of the image are analyzed. The analysis involves calculating a distance in the CMYK space between the CMYK values of an image, and the CMYK values produced by different output profiles. A profile is selected based on these distances, for example by selecting the profile yielding the shortest distance. This profile is then used for converting the CMYK colorant values of the image into CIELAB color values.

  • Patent number: 7714875
Abstract: A method and system of determining the screen capability and rendering the appropriate display attribute is herein described. The present invention performs this task by using a color table, which contains a list of object types and a corresponding list of display attributes. The application program obtains the correct display attribute for the object by calling the color table, giving it an identifier of the object. The color table is indexed by the identifier of the object and a screen capability flag that is obtained, in one embodiment, from the operating system. The color table provides the display attribute for the specified object based on the screen capability flag. Advantageously, the application program does not need to know the computer's display capability. Furthermore, the application program needs only one piece of computer code, regardless of the number of display capabilities which are possible. Thus, memory space in the palmtop is conserved.

Abstract: Gamma correction or other power Power functions and other self-similar functions are generated for correcting the light intensity for digital pixels implemented in hardware. Two levels of mapping of segments are preformed to reduce the total number of segments for a given precision. The A range of inputs is divided into successively smaller segments. Two levels of mapping of segments are performed. Each segment is smaller than the next by a factor of 1/a for a first or primary level, or 1/b for a second level of segments. All inputs are mapped of scaled up to the input range of the largest segment in the primary level. Then the largest primary segment is further divided into several second-level segments, and the input is again mapped or scaled into the largest of the second-level segments. Gamma correction The function is performed on the input scaled into the largest second-level segment. A linear approximation within the largest second-level segment is used.
