  • Patent number: 9924068
Abstract: Based on the resolution of acquired image data and a target resolution, a first resolution higher than the resolution of the image data and closest to the resolution of the image data is decided out of divisors of the target resolution. The image data is converted into first image data having the first resolution. The first image data is processed using a filter configured to compensate for degradation in quality of an image represented by the image data, which can occur when the image data is processed. The first image data processed using the filter is converted into second image data having the target resolution.

  • Patent number: 9875229
Abstract: Page layout of web content is performed based on templates. Publishers publish web content referred to as “sources.” Each source comprises one or more assets from one or more asset types. The asset types include title, subtitle, byline, dateline, pull quote, image, video, audio, caption, and in-line text. A content processing system processes the sources using a conversion module and a rule database. The conversion module restructures a received source into a standardized format of the source, wherein each asset of the source is tagged with an asset type according to rules present in the rule database. A layout module interprets the standardized source, determines one or more templates from a template database to use for the layout of the assets of the source, and lays out the assets of the source based on the selected templates.

In one embodiment, scoring criteria are applied to a reference image of a first image format having a first bit depth to generate an image conversion score. The scoring criteria are based on a histogram of one or more characteristics of the reference image. If the image conversion score is greater than a threshold value, then the reference image is converted to a modified image of a second image format having a second bit depth less than the first bit depth, and the modified image is scanned onto the continuous scan display screen. If the image conversion score is less than the threshold value, then the reference image is scanned onto the continuous scan display screen.

Abstract: A smart multimedia content receiver automatically resizes video images based on the content being displayed on the TV screen. Such a self-formatting content receiver includes on-board image processing capability that provides continuous video analysis to detect changes in program formatting and convert each frame as it is received in real time, as opposed to processing and re-releasing an entire program or movie, or relying on the viewer to re-format programs manually. In response to detecting a change, aspect ratio adjustments are made as needed. Because the self-formatting content receiver has access to the video data before it is displayed, such automatic on-the-fly adjustments ensure that the viewer's experience during program changes is seamless and without distortion. Subscribers can influence decisions made by the content receiver by pre-setting viewer preferences for aspect ratio adjustment.

Abstract: A video coder scales a motion vector of a current prediction unit (PU) of a current picture in order to compensate for a difference in temporal distance. In addition, the video coder determines a predictive block for the current PU, determines a disparity reference block based on samples of the disparity reference picture at a location indicated by a disparity vector of the current PU, and determines, based on samples of the fixed reference picture at a location indicated by the scaled motion vector, a temporal-disparity reference block for the current PU. The video coder then determines a residual predictor for the current PU. Each sample of the residual predictor for the current PU indicates a difference between a sample of the temporal-disparity reference block for the current PU and a corresponding sample of the disparity reference block.

Abstract: Techniques for synchronizing streams in an adaptive streaming environment include cross-chassis and intra-chassis synchronization of video and/or audio. In an adaptive streaming system that streams content in segments or chunks at varying levels of quality corresponding to different coding rates, implementations enable seamless switching between output streams. For example, synchronizing multiple output streams for switching between coded adaptive bit rate streams across multiple chassis involve enforcing decisions of a master encoder for inverse telecine, frame rate conversion, and segment boundary to slave encoders associated with the same group of output stream representations.

  • Patent number: 9390473
Abstract: A method and system displaying the output from an application on a fixed orientation display is disclosed. The method is performed at an application stored on an electronic device. The application sends a request to display output from the application in a second orientation with second dimensions. The application receives from the electronic device a notification that a display associated with the electronic device is a fixed orientation display with a first orientation and first dimensions and a notification that the requested second orientation and second dimensions are different from the first orientation. The application then determines optimal dimensions to display the output from the application based on the first orientation and first dimensions associated with the fixed display. The application then scales output data to match the determined optimal dimensions. The application then sends the scaled output data to the device for display on the fixed display.

Abstract: Various approaches for motion search refinement in a processing element are discussed. A k/2+L+k/2 register stores an expanded row of an L×L macro block. A k-tap filter horizontally interpolates over the expanded row generating horizontal interpolation results. A transpose storage unit stores the interpolated results generated by the k-tap filter for k/2+L+k/2 entries, wherein rows or columns of data may be read out of the transpose storage unit in pipelined register stages. • Patent number: 9256975
Abstract: An “accumulation buffer” process in a graphics processing system is carried out not by rendering each sub-frame making up the accumulated frame in its entirety in turn, but by subjecting each individual tile 2, 3, 4 and 5 making up the accumulated frame to the sequence of different rendering passes individually. Thus, for each individual tile making up the accumulated frame, several sub-tiles (e.g. 2?, 2?, 2?? and 2??) are generated in turn and accumulated together to provide a final accumulation tile (2ACC) that is output as the accumulated version of the tile in question. This is then repeated for each of the remaining individual tiles 3, 4 and 5 making up the accumulated frame 1, and the individual accumulated tiles 2ACC, 3ACC, 4ACC and 5ACC are combined together to provide the output accumulated frame 6.
