  • Patent number: 8570270
Abstract: An edge-lit backlight unit for displays is provided. In one embodiment, the backlight may include a light guide configured to receive light from a light source along a first lateral edge. The received light propagates towards a second opposite lateral edge. The backlight unit may include an arrangement of light-extracting elements configured to extract a portion of the propagating light and to allow the remaining portion to reach the second edge. In one embodiment, a specular reflector disposed at the second edge causes the light reaching the second edge to retro-propagate back towards the first edge. In certain embodiments, the retro-propagating light may be between approximately 5 to 35 percent of the total light received by the light guide. The retro-propagating light may be extracted by multiple light-extracting elements and mixed with the extracted propagating light to provide improved color uniformity along an axis of the display.

Abstract: Gaming devices, gaming systems, methods of conducting a wagering game, and computer programs for initiating a wagering game are presented herein. A gaming device is presented that includes a wager input device for receiving wagers from players to play a wagering game, and a display for displaying outcomes of the wagering game. The gaming device also includes a multi-layer composite lighting assembly with a first light-emitting layer, a second light-emitting layer, and a spacer. The first light-emitting layer emits light of a first color in a first direction, whereas the second light-emitting layer emits light of a second color in a second direction. The spacer, which is interposed between the first and second light-emitting layers, diffuses and focuses light emitted by the second light-emitting layer through the light emitted by the first light-emitting layer to thereby create a three-dimensional simulation of a component of the wagering game.

Abstract: There is provided is a display device capable of suppressing deterioration of the color conversion layer which converts one color light into another color light, and realizing favorable handling and a display device using the color conversion layer, and a color conversion sheet. A phosphor sheet 10 is, for example, arranged immediately above a light source such as a blue light emitting diode, and obtained by sealing a phosphor layer 11, which converts a part of blue light into another color light, by sealing sheets 12A and 12B. The sealing sheets 12A and 12B are bonded with the phosphor layer 11 in between by a first bonding layer 13 and a second bonding layer 14. Since the phosphor layer 11 is sealed by the sealing sheets 12A and 12B including a water vapor barrier layer 122 held between resin sheets 121A and 121B, water vapor is prevented from entering into the phosphor layer, and a chemical reaction is less likely to be generated between the phosphor layer 11 and the water vapor barrier layer 122.
