Patent number: 8796611Abstract: An electronic device can include different components providing different functionality. Some electronic devices can include a proximity sensor for determining when a user's face is near the device. The sensor can include an emitter and a detector that are separated by a foam block to limit cross-talk between the emitter and detector. A sheet can be placed over the foam block to define openings for each of the emitter and detector. Some electronic devices can also include a camera. A glass cover secured to the device enclosure can protect the camera. To improve an adhesive bond between the glass cover and a metal enclosure, an ink layer can be placed between an adhesive and the glass. In addition, the camera or another component may need to be grounded to ensure proper operation. During assembly, however, the position of the camera can shift due to closing an enclosure. A grounding assembly that maintains contact with the camera in its initial and final positions can be provided.Type: GrantFiled: January 10, 2011Date of Patent: August 5, 2014Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Mike Wittenberg, Tang Tan

Publication number: 20140198472Abstract: One design aspect in electronic systems, such as communication systems, is noise suppression. More particularly, this relates to microphonics suppression in high-speed communication systems, such as microwave wireless radio systems. The present invention contemplates system design for substantially eliminating microphonic behavior created by mechanical stimulus such as vibrations and the drum effect. A preferred approach includes isolating the motherboard from its mounting harnesses (mechanical interconnection) and adding an echo damping and shock absorption pad to the underside of the enclosure cover to stiffen the enclosure cover while maintaining its light weight. Preferably also, this approach isolates the entire motherboard rather than a particular component. A design using this approach is particularly useful in an outdoor unit (ODU) of a split-mount microwave radio system.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 17, 2014Publication date: July 17, 2014Applicant: Aviat U.S., Inc.Inventors: Youming Qin, Frank S. Patent number: 8737080Abstract: A modular package may be utilized to mount an RF system-on-chip in one of plural configurations, such that the same modular package may be utilized to enable plural device formats, while reducing the amount of RF testing needed to change device formats. In one configuration, a surface mount device is mounted onto a first surface of a board, and the board is directly surface mounted onto a base board. Here, the base board includes a hole for accommodating the surface mount device, providing a thin device format. In a second configuration, a spacer is mounted onto the first surface of the board, such that a gap is provided between the board and the base board for accommodating the surface mount device, providing a relatively thicker device, but providing additional surface area where the hole otherwise would be, reducing the device size.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 2011Date of Patent: May 27, 2014Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Yang Zhang, Yongsheng Peng, Jack B. Patent number: 8705234Abstract: An answer bracelet suitable for wearing an a person's wrist. A rigid hollow housing having a transparent top cover is attached to a wrist band and houses a digital display, a microprocessor, a printed circuit board, a start switch, a tilt switch, a battery power supply and an audio emitting device. A digital display can be seen through the transparent top cover. When a user presses the start button and shakes the bracelet, the tilt switch sends a signal to the microprocessor whereupon the microprocessor causes the audio device to produce a short beep sound and then randomly selects one of a plurality of messages stored in the microprocessor and displays the message on the digital display for a predetermined period of time. Then the message disappears making the bracelet display ready for the next use. An alternate embodiment allows for an audio message to be heard as well as a visual message to be seen.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 2011Date of Patent: April 22, 2014Inventor: Cole Patrick Schneider
