Patent number: 7462993Abstract: A dome light is disclosed which utilizes a rotating knob with ‘on’ and ‘off’ positions to toggle between having either a halogen bulb on or a plurality of red LEDs on, or both off. Dual D-type flip-flops toggle the dome light between states in response the changes of the knob between the ‘on’ and ‘off’ positions. The plurality of red LEDs utilize at least one current regulator to maintain a constant level of illumination. When the halogen bulb is on, further rotation of the knob varies a potentiometer which controls the duty cycle created by a pulse width modulator. The pulse width modulator causes the halogen bulb to be on for portions of each cycle; the longer the ‘on’ time during each cycle, the greater the apparent intensity of illumination by the halogen bulb.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 2005Date of Patent: December 9, 2008Inventor: George Sotiriou

Patent number: 7355523Abstract: An addressable lighting device and control system uses a user-actuable infrared or radio frequency operated remote control(s) to selectively or collectively generate an electronic address for the addressable lighting device on which the device will respond to all future signals from the remote control corresponding to that electronic address. The addressable lighting device has a programming mode for setting the address and a working mode for receiving control signals on the set address and correspondingly setting the desired intensity level of light. The addressable device may have the address set and changed locally (manually) or remotely using the remote control to switch modes, thereby avoiding the problems, expenses and mistakes associated with using dual in-line package (DIP) switches, binary, hex rotary switches, or thumbwheel switches normally used to set each one of the system's unit's unique address.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 2004Date of Patent: April 8, 2008Inventor: Alberto Sid

Patent number: 7350942Abstract: The invention relates to a display apparatus, particularly to structure of LED display modules. The invention could be implemented through a LED matrix display module with high luminance area ratio comprising an injection molding unit and a printing board fitted therewith, wherein, LEDs are regularly arranged in a matrix on said printing board, and each pixel dot is correspondingly provided with a reflecting cavity on said molding unit, with the reflecting cavity expanding gradually from the inside section (close to the display surface). The circumference of the inside section of the reflecting cavity forms a closed and smooth circular curve. The invention is characterized in that, the circumference of the outside section of the reflecting cavity forms a closed and smooth curve which is a square with round corners, and the side face of the reflecting cavity is a smooth and cured surface.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 2006Date of Patent: April 1, 2008Assignee: Shanghai Sansi Technology Co., Ltd.Inventors: Bishou Chen, Yinghua Wang, Peng Wang, Xiaoliang He

Patent number: 7349133Abstract: An image reading apparatus that detects failure in the white LEDs constituting a white LED array. Failure in the white LEDs is detected by comparison between a prescribed current threshold and the current running in the LED array detected by an image reading apparatus controller when the white LED array composed of plural LED blocks connected in parallel, each LED block being composed of plural LEDs connected in series, is powered for failure detection. This failure check is conducted by checking LEDs for failure in each of the LED blocks constituting the LED array. Image reading is not permitted when faulty LEDs are detected in two neighboring LED blocks.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 2003Date of Patent: March 25, 2008Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Mitsuhiro Sugeta

Patent number: 7334918Abstract: An LED lighting array is disclosed wherein a plurality of light emitting devices disposed in at least first and second columns are mounted on a planar mounting surface to form an emission plane. The emission axes of all the LEDs in a first column are parallel with each other and lie in a first plane. The emission axes of the LEDs in an adjacent, second column are also parallel, but a second plane containing the emission axes of the second column is disposed at a predetermined, non-zero angle with respect to the first plane. The non-zero angle is a function of the LED beam width and the distance to a lighting target. This configuration of the LEDs provides an optimum balance at a predetermined target distance between the size of the area illuminated and the brightness of the illumination of the target. In one aspect of the invention the LED lighting array includes at least first, second and third columns of LEDs.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 2003Date of Patent: February 26, 2008Assignee: Bayco Products, Ltd.Inventors: James Newton, Bijan Bayat

Patent number: 7319298Abstract: The present invention provides a luminaire system capable of generating light of a desired chromaticity and luminous flux output during continuous operation with varying ambient operating temperature. The luminaire system can be further capable of maintaining a desired correlated colour temperature during dimming of the luminaire. The luminaire system comprises one or more arrays of light-emitting elements for generating light with a current driver system coupled thereto for selectively supplying electrical drive current to each of the arrays, wherein the current driver system is responsive to drive signals received from a controller. The luminaire system further comprises an optical sensor system for generating optical signals representative of chromaticity and luminous flux output of the light. A heat sensing system is operatively coupled to the one or more arrays for generating signals representative of the junction temperatures of arrays of light-emitting elements during operation.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 2005Date of Patent: January 15, 2008Assignee: Tir Systems, Ltd.Inventors: Paul Jungwirth, Shane P.
