  • Publication number: 20070201225
Abstract: An apparatus and method is characterized by providing an optical transfer function between a predetermined illuminated surface pattern, such as a street light pattern, and a predetermined energy distribution pattern of a light source, such as that from an LED. A lens is formed having a shape defined by the optical transfer function. The optical transfer function is derived by generating an energy distribution pattern using the predetermined energy distribution pattern of the light source. Then the projection of the energy distribution pattern onto the illuminated surface is generated. The projection is then compared to the predetermined illuminated surface pattern to determine if it acceptably matches. The process continues reiteratively until an acceptable match is achieved.

  • Patent number: 7121678
Abstract: A light includes a frusto-conical base that has a planar bottom surface including an access door conjoined thereto. A transparent body is conjoined to the base top surface that has annular upper and lower portions defining a cavity therebetween. The upper portion includes a transparent lens disposed about an axis thereof. A mechanism is included for illuminating the body and refracting light arrays away therefrom. The illuminating mechanism includes a conical mirror disposed within the cavity. The mirror is formed from transparent material and has a maximum diameter equal to approximately one-half a diameter of the body. The mirror extends medially upward from the body and terminates at a top surface of the body. A power source is electrically coupled to the illuminating mechanism.

  • Patent number: 7119501
Abstract: A dynamic color mixing LED device that includes a plurality of light emitting diode units. Each light emitting diode unit includes e.g. a first LED of a first color (e.g. red) and a second LED of a second color (e.g. green). A third LED of a third color (e.g. blue can also be provided). A controller supplies respective driving signals to each of the first LED, second LED, and third LEDs individually. The respective driving signals individually control relative intensity outputs of the respective first LED, second LED, and third LED. With such an individual control each of the light emitting diode units can be controlled to output different color signals.

  • Patent number: 7101050
Abstract: Illumination systems are disclosed that include a light source or a bank of light sources having a non-radially symmetrical aperture having a longer dimension and a shorter dimension, such that the light source or bank of light sources produces illumination with a non-radially symmetrical angular intensity distribution having a larger angular dimension and a smaller angular dimension. The illumination systems include an integrator having an entrance end optically connected to the bank of light sources, an exit end, and a dimension that experiences a larger increase from the entrance end to the exit end. The integrator is disposed so that the dimension experiencing the larger increase is substantially aligned with the larger angular dimension of the illumination produced at the entrance end of the integrator.
