Adjustable Or Repositionable Modifier Patents (Class 362/277)
  • Patent number: 6536921
Abstract: From a quasi point source, light distribution means produce a selected one or ones of broadly distributed ambient light, non-shadowing task illumination, multi-beam display lighting, projective lineal lighting and projective surface washing illumination lineally or radially distributed. Collimation optics shape light from a quasi point source into a disc of selected axial thickness. Containment optics contain divergence of and direct light from the collimation optics to distribution optics. The distribution optics modulates and redirects the radiant energy into a shape or shapes useful in illuminating architectural space. The distribution optics may reflect or refract light to direct and shape it for a particular architectural illumination requirement. The efficient combination of the optics provides for a system of minimized thickness, permitting maximum flexibility in integration with or within shelves, soffits and other structural members.

  • Patent number: 6527416
Abstract: A beam from a laser is light which is much more efficiently produced and which much more efficiently projects over distance than light from an incandescent source. However, because of its concentrated nature laser light has generally been of no use in viewing objects. A laser indicator which uniformly disperses a laser beam so that it may be used to view objects and particulates in the air comprises: a laser generator for generating a parallel beam; a first lens positioned in front of the laser generator having a rounded curvature, so that as the beam of light projects through the lens, the parallel beam of light is uniformly diverged; and, a housing maintaining the laser generator and the first lens in alignment. For some applications the above laser indicator further provides for a power switch and a power source being a battery. The housing carries the power switch and further comprises a cavity to house the battery.

Abstract: The focus angle of a search light mounted on a helicopter or other platform is narrowed or widened by rotating a bidirectional focus control cam in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction as selected by a manually operated three-position control switch which determines the rotational direction of a DC motor driving the bidirectional focus control cam. The DC motor has first and second terminals which are selectively connected to either a DC power source or ground by a double-pole, single throw dual relay which reverses the polarity and thus the direction of rotation of the DC motor. The dual relay is connected by the same single wire interface currently in use to the manually operated control switch, which manually operated control switch is within a control box located in the helicopter.

  • Patent number: 6152583
Abstract: A lighting fixture or luminaire in which a multi-tube fluorescent lamp may be oriented in a horizontal position while focusing the omnidirectional output from the lamp. A swivel assembly enables the lamp to move as a single unit with the reflector housing, thereby to maintain the alignment of the lamp tube to the reflector surface while allowing aiming of the light beam. In one embodiment of the invention, a socket housing snap fits into the reflector housing so that the lamp rotates simultaneously with the reflector housing. The beam spread delivered by the luminaire has a bright center and a soft perimeter so that the bright center may be used as accent lighting and the peripheral light may be used for soft general lighting.

Abstract: A mounting assembly for mounting a light pipe lighting system on a support surface includes an elongate support rail connect to the light source and a hanger bracket connect to the elongate support rail. The support rail includes oppositely extending longitudinal flange portions which slidably engage the hanger bracket and thereby serve to connect the support rail with the hanger bracket. The hanger bracket can be either slidably supported on the support rail to allow the light source to move relative to the support surface or the hanger bracket can be fixed at various locations along the support rail. The elongate light source support rail is connect to the light source with a bracket or with a casing which encloses the light source, and the light source support rail can be further connected with an associated light pipe support rail to transmit axial forces between the light pipe and light source.

  • Patent number: 6126301
Abstract: The headlight is used as a high beam headlight and has a light source (12) propagating light that is reflected by a reflector (10) as a light beam, which produces maximum illumination intensities that do not exceed legally prescribed maximum illumination intensities. The headlight light is designed so that the high maximum illumination intensities permissible in Europe according to the ECE Rules are produced by the light beam issuing from it. A screen device (20,30) is insertable in this headlight, by which a portion of the light issuing from the light source (12) to the reflector (10) is blocked and thus prevented from reaching the reflector. Because of that the maximum illumination intensities produced by the light beam issuing from the headlight are reduced so that the headlight can be used, for example in the USA or Japan, where reduced maximum illumination intensities are permitted in comparison to those in Europe, by insertion of the screen device in the otherwise unchanged headlight.

  • Patent number: 6099145
Abstract: A first backlight light source is energized either at full or reduced rated power, until such time as the brightness which can be produced has reduced by a predetermined amount (e.g. half of the original level). A second or backup source is then switched on while the first is temporarily switched off. When the backup light source has degraded to the point where the brightness which can be produced by this light source has reduced by a second predetermined amount (which is the same as the first predetermined amount, e.g. 50%) the first light source is switched back on so that both are simultaneously energized. When this measure fails to maintain the required level of brightness, the power with which the light sources are energized is increased.
