Abstract: The invention relates to a flat light-emitting lighting device for a vehicle, and to a method for providing emergency energy supply to the lighting device. A shallow installation depth and low power consumption of the lighting device may be ensured by the use of a flat OLED illumination device. Due to the low power consumption of the flat OLED illumination device, an emergency energy supply may be integrated without this increasing the installation depth. Such flat lighting devices, which in the case of emergency are self-supplying, may, for example, be used in aircraft in order to, with suitable icons or text, indicate escape routes or other emergency-relevant information.

Abstract: The subject invention relates to an assembly and method for attaching a stud to a lamp housing that decreases the overall size of the automotive lamp assembly. The apparatus has a collar molded over a stud. The collar attaches the stud to the lamp housing by being shear welded to the lamp housing. The stud is prevented from rotating about its longitudinal axis, so that it can serve to mount the lamp housing to an automobile.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method of lighting a road with a vehicle headlight, in which the projected light is modulated in response to the presence of any persons on the road. The method comprises the following operations: detecting in the road scene at least one person, pinpointing the location of the person in the road scene, creating on an imager a mask having dimensions and position corresponding to the person, and lighting the road through the imager, to create a projected shadow around the person. The invention also provides a headlight for performing this method and having a first light source towards the imager, and an electronic system for generating light-occulting masks on the imager.

Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments of system, devices, components and methods for controllably configuring the brightness and color of light emitted by an automotive LED illumination system. The brightness and color of light emitted by LEDs, or clusters or groups of LEDs, may be varied smoothly or in step-wise fashion to produce virtually any desired pattern of collimated light. Such a pattern may be varied in respect of time or space, or both time and space. Light and other types of sensors may be employed to provide feedback control as a further means of controllably configuring the brightness and color of light emitted by such a system in response to changes in external and other conditions.

Abstract: A lamp module is constructed of a light source part made of a semiconductor light emitting element, and an optical member for distributing light emitted from the light source part. The light source part includes a surface-emitting laser element in which plural light emission parts are parallel arranged on a surface, a mask which is disposed on a surface of the surface-emitting laser element and includes plural mask openings for exposing the light emission parts, and fluorescent substances with which the mask openings are filled. By forming the light source part in a monolithic configuration, an array pitch of the plural light emission parts can be decreased, a light source can be miniaturized and also a lamp can be further miniaturized.

  • Patent number: 7312477
Abstract: Whereas incandescent light bulbs and other similar light sources known in the related art emit light in all directions, LED lamps can emit light in a single direction, and this is manifested in the problem of being unable to achieve light distribution characteristics satisfied by conventional headlamp designs. In accordance with an embodiment of the invention, an LED lamp for a light source of a headlamp can include an LED chip 2 in the vicinity of the focus of a projection means and a shielding member 7 covering a portion of the LED chip 2 in a formation allowing a light distribution characteristic suitable for a vehicle front-illumination light to be obtained when light from the LED chip 2 is magnified and projected in an illumination direction by a projection lens 10 or the like constituting the projection means. Accordingly, accurate light distribution characteristics can be obtained in a simple manner by projecting in the illumination direction using the projection lens 10.
