Abstract: A communication system receives data that does not pertain to an attempted initial establishment of a communication. The communication system uses a new message format under an existing analog Caller ID standard. The communication system inserts the data (which can be in addition to existing Caller ID data) into a Caller ID message that uses the new message format. The communication system then sends the Caller ID message to a communication device/Private Branch Exchange (PBX)/contact center that can interpret the new message format. The communication device/PBX/contact center can use the data to further route the communication to a specific telephone and/or can use the data to display information such as Global Positioning System (GPS) coordinates of a cell phone. The data can enhance the capabilities of devices and systems that currently work under the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN).

Abstract: A communication apparatus such as a cellular phone is described in which a storage device stores communication history data including outgoing call history data, incoming call history data, sent message history data, received message history data, and multi-contact data. The multi-contact data includes a part of communication history data. For example, the multi-contact data may include the most recent entry data in each of the outgoing call history data, the incoming call history data, the sent message history data, and the received message history data. The data may be displayed based the attributes of the history data or multi-contact data such as date, data type or party information.

Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for automatically retrieving and displaying supplemental information about a called party on the CPE of a calling party. When a caller places a call, the number called is used to look up and return to the caller the Universal Resource Locator (URL) of the called party. Application software resident in the caller's CPE uses the URL to retrieve the home page of the called party from the Internet.

Abstract: A method for determining the name of a calling party where the calling party's name and corresponding telephone number are found in a remote database. The method first identifies whether the calling party's telephone number is contained within the local database. When it is determined that the telephone number is not within the local database, the method attempts to locate the telephone number in a remote database. A query is formed according to a basic signal transmission protocol to ensure that a database which receives the query will be able to respond to it. The query requesting the name associated with the telephone number is sent across a network. The method receives a response to the inquiry and checks to ensure that a name was returned to the local database before delivering the name to the called party.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer readable media for communicating calling name information between signaling system 7 (SS7) and non-SS7 networks are disclosed. According to one aspect, the subject matter described herein includes a method for communicating calling name information between signaling system 7 (SS7) and non-SS7 networks. An entity for processing signaling messages receives an SS7 message that includes a calling party identifier, and uses the calling party identifier to obtain calling name information associated with the calling party. The SS7 message is modified to include the calling name information and sent to a gateway network element for communicating messages between SS7 networks and non-SS7 networks.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing a caller investigation in order to provide relation information to a called party (200) regarding an unknown calling party (202), when implemented in a service entity (204) serving said called party. A relation query for the calling party is received from the called party, and it is then determined whether the calling party is known and related to any third party directly or indirectly known to the called party by checking a contact list (210-214) defined for said third party. The reliability of the calling party can then be better assessed based on how the calling party is related to the called party, if related at all. The called party may use this information for deciding how to respond to a communication request from said calling party.

Abstract: A device for screening out non-original calling numbers includes at least one teleport and a called party operator which are interconnected by a telecommunication network. The teleport has a calling module which generates a calling signal to carry out a talk; the calling signal is transmitted to the telecommunication network and is transmitted through the telecommunication network to a toll-free telephone module of the called party operator. The calling signal is also transmitted to a screening device to detect whether the calling signal is the original calling number and to screen out the non-original calling number. Therefore, the called party operator can effectively screen out the non-original calling number used by the teleport, assure using the original calling number to activate, deactivate, authorize or access data of a service unit, and prevent from resulting in infringement and loss of rights and money to people.

Abstract: A charging method for group main line, GML, service is disclosed. For an outgoing call from an extension of the GML, the initiated call is identified by adding a prefix for group service before the called number. When an intelligent network, IN, finds that there is the prefix for group service before the called number, the call is processed as collectively paid by the GML. A service control point, SCP, generates a call record for the call and places a special identification code in the call record. An incoming call redirected through the GML is also processed as collectively paid by the GML. The SCP generates a call record for the call and places a special identification code in the call record. The present invention also discloses a service control device.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for identifying a caller who does not provide caller identification on an unanswered call. The caller is asked to record his/her name (or some other characteristic utterance). If the call is unanswered, the record is retained and can be accessed by the called party when that party requests his/her stored voice mail. Advantageously, even on unanswered calls, the identity of the caller can be presented to the called party when that called party requests stored voice mail messages, even if the calling party has private service.

Abstract: A method is disclosed that provides the sharing of a station-mapping description with a first private-branch exchange, where the description has been initialized and maintained at a second private-branch exchange. Such a description describes a logical association between a station extension of an enterprise deskset and a telephone number of an off-premises terminal, such as a cell phone. As a result of the sharing across private-branch exchanges, an incoming call from a second employee's cell phone can be recognized, by a first employee being called, as coming from the calling second employee. This is because the incoming call is identified with the telephone extension of the calling employee's deskset terminal in spite of the call being placed from the cell phone, or other telephone number at large. This is particularly important where a large company engineers its enterprise's telecommunications system across multiple private-branch exchanges.

Abstract: A system for obtaining location data of calling parties for telephone calls provides location data for display by a called device. Through reception of the name, telephone number, or other calling party identifier as is done through the conventional caller ID service, the called device formulates a query to a database containing location data for calling parties. Existing advanced intelligent network infrastructure may be used to provide caller ID data to the called device, and the called device uses this caller ID data to formulate the query to the database. Additionally, the called device may have access to multiple databases containing location data and may detect an appropriate database to query based upon analysis of the caller ID data that has been received.

Abstract: A mobile communication terminal includes timer for detecting the time of an incoming call, a caller number registration table for storing caller numbers, answer message ID numbers and time-dependent switching codes in relation to each other, the time-dependent control codes designating callers for whom answer messages are switched depending on a time zone in which the call is made. There is thus provided a capability of selecting an answer message for a caller based on the caller number included in the incoming call signal and switching between answer messages based on the time of call incoming detected by the timer.
