Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for verifying a user alias. The method comprises: a calling terminal inserting a set alias and a calling user's own number into calling information when calling a called terminal; after the called terminal receives the calling information, when the calling terminal registers calling number display restriction or when the calling terminal cancels the calling number display restriction and the calling number of the calling is inconsistent with a calling user number stored locally in the called terminal, determining whether the calling user's own number matches successfully with the calling user number stored locally in the called terminal to display in different modes when the matching is successful and unsuccessful, respectively.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, are described for selecting an image of a caller associated with an incoming call. In one aspect, a method includes identifying a caller associated with an incoming call from an originating telecommunications device. The method also includes locating plurality images of the identified caller, and randomly displaying on the mobile telecommunications device's display screen one or more images from among the located plurality images of the identified caller.

Abstract: A system 10 and method for identifying a caller using associated voice or sound announcements is disclosed. An associated voice announcement or announcements may be in calling party's own voice. The system 10 is capable of playing a different announcement in place of each ring. The different announcements may be played sequentially, randomly, or pseudo-randomly. Alternatively, a single announcement may be played in lieu of a single selected ring or in lieu of all rings after a specified ring.

Abstract: A system and method for customized caller identification and call routing are disclosed. A disclosed method of providing customized caller identification information for a phone call includes associating a first phone number in a database with a plurality of user specified identifications, selecting one of the plurality of user specified identifications in response to the phone call placed from the first phone number to a second phone number as a function of the second phone number, and providing the selected one of the plurality of identifications to a device associated with the second telephone number.

Abstract: A system and a method are disclosed for providing telephone number sharing services to subscribers over public switched telephone network or data network. The disclosed system first receives call details of a call from a subscriber of the system. The call details include reusable call number preference of the subscriber as well as a phone number of a called party. The system stores the call details in a database. The system determines whether the received call from the subscriber is a first call to the called number. In response to the call being the first call to the called party, the system assigns a reusable call number that satisfies the reusable call number preference of the subscriber, and forwards the call to the called number with the reusable call number.

Abstract: A computing device includes a processing unit and a system memory. The processing unit creates a normalization module programmed to modify a plurality of telephone numbers so that the telephone numbers conform to a specified format, creates a calling line manipulation module programmed to manipulate a calling line identification number to form a number for querying one or more databases including contact information, and creates a resource query module programmed to query the databases including the contacting information using the number, receive one or more query results from the databases, and select one of the query results for inclusion in a notification of a telephonic message.

Abstract: A communication apparatus includes an obtaining unit, an image data receiving unit, an extracting unit and a first display control unit. The obtaining unit is configured to obtain a caller identification information through a caller identification via a communication line when an incoming call is received from a caller. The image data receiving unit is configured to receive an image data transmitted from the caller via the communication line. The extracting unit is configured to extract caller information from the image data to specify the caller. The first display control unit is configured to display the caller information on a display screen when the obtaining unit does not obtain the caller identification information at the incoming call.

Abstract: Techniques in a wireless device for use in providing restrictions on communications via a cellular network are described. The wireless device communicates with a host enterprise server of a private network which is external to the cellular network for performing data synchronization in association with a personal information manager (PIM) application. The wireless device receives communication restriction information from this same host enterprise server in the private network, and stores this information in its memory. The wireless device determines whether a communication is restricted by comparing a user selected code of a communication attempt with one or more codes of the stored information. If the communication is determined to be restricted, the wireless device disallows the communication via the cellular network. If the communication is determined to not be restricted, the wireless device may allow the communication via the cellular network.

Abstract: A “customized” caller ID service platform is utilized within a telecommunications network (which may be the PSTN, an IP network, or any other network for supporting voice communication) to allow for the caller ID information transmitted to a called party to be tailored to the specific called party. A database within the platform is configured to store a listing of registered subscribers and a set of “pre-defined called numbers” associated with each subscriber. For each listed number, the subscriber provides the specific customized information (for example, an account number) that is to be transmitted to that specific called number as the caller ID information. A registered subscriber is able to gain access to the platform and modify the entries as need be.

Sending device identification information is requested from a distributed contact database fashioned from the contact databases of the communication devices in a group of communication devices. If the sending device identification information is available at a given communication device, it is received from the communication device.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and products are disclosed for locating files. Upon receipt of caller identification information, a search is performed to identify all files associated with the caller identification information. A presentation of the caller identification information is caused.

Abstract: A call center maintains various pools of telephone numbers, where each telephone number pool comprises a plurality of telephone numbers in a geographic area. A call originating to a called number uses a calling telephone number that is selected from one of a plurality of telephone number pools based on the area designated by the called number. An index value is used to select the telephone number from the selected telephone number pool. The selected telephone number is used to as a calling telephone number when originating a call to the called party.

Abstract: A system and method for selecting callers on a communication device is disclosed. When a call is received from a caller, call history data are obtained from a call history database, and presented on a display. A user may then decide based on the call history whether to receive the call.

Abstract: Called parties in an enhanced communication system are provided location information associated with a calling party to help them determine whether they should accept the call. Alternatively, automatic call routing may be performed based on location context information associated with the calling party such as whether the caller is calling from a regular location association with him/her or an extra-ordinary location.

Abstract: Provided is an apparatus and method for storing a phone number in a mobile terminal. The apparatus includes a memory that stores a call history in which an outgoing call number and an incoming call number are listed; a phonebook manger that detects a recent phone number from the call history, checks how many times the detected recent phone number has been used to make a call, and determines whether to store the recent phone number; and a Micro-Processor Unit (MPU) that controls the phonebook manager to determine whether the recent phone number can be stored when the call is ended, and, if information that indicates the recent phone number can be stored is received from the phonebook manager, stores the recent phone number in the memory.

Abstract: An incoming call prompting method is provided. The method receiving an incoming call decoding the phone number of the incoming call so as to obtain a digit set from the phone number stored in the data storage system. The method further includes determining a call number character of the incoming call and assigning musical notes associated with the numbers of the digit set according to the musical note table. Furthermore, the method includes obtaining corresponding audio clip of each note from an audio clip database and outputting the audio clips with the corresponding rhythm of the call number character of the incoming call through a music output apparatus.

Abstract: In one aspect, communication link established from a communication unit to a communications system. A request message is transmitted from a communication unit to the work connection computer and checked with the aid of a user profile of the communication unit, to verify whether the communication unit has log-on authorization. If the verification of the request message is positive, the request message is forwarded from the network connection computer to the connection handling computer in the form of a modified request message. The modified request message is analyzed by the connection handling computer with the aid of an authentication profile of the network connection computer. Once the modified request message has been positively analyzed and the communication unit has been successfully registered, a response message is transmitted from the connection handling computer to the communication unit.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products for providing a quality of service (QoS) using E.164 number mapping (ENUM) data in a communications network. According to one method, a query message including an E.164 number can be received. Next, at least one uniform resource identifier (URI) associated with the E.164 number can be located. Afterwards, QoS data corresponding to the at least one URI is subsequently obtained. Further, the query message can be responded to with the URI and the corresponding QoS data.

Abstract: A computer/telephony integrated single-point-of-contact system (CISS) enabling a user to contact another using multiple devices with a single contact attempt is disclosed. A plurality of computer programs residing in a computer use a subscriber database, authorization database, priority list database, and device attributes database to determine how to respond to a request to contact a subscriber. If the request is an emergency, the computer repeatedly contacts all of the subscriber's devices until a response is received. Otherwise, the computer contacts the subscriber's devices in a sequential order determined by the subscriber. The computer can also delete redundant un-received messages from a subscriber's devices and create a real-time connection between the requester and the subscriber, if it is technically possible, at the subscriber's request.

Abstract: A method and system for hierarchical prioritization and execution of call completion services are provided. When a caller applies for a call completion service, the caller is identified and assigned a priority from among different priorities such as high priority or regular priority. Thereafter, attempts to execute call completion services are performed hierarchically by launching call completion services for callers having a higher priority before similar attempts are performed for callers of a lower priority. Hence, call completion services are handled according to the priority assigned to the callers rather than the order in which each caller applied for a call completion service.

Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed for providing Programmable Caller ID Screening services. One method monitors a telephone call for a call screening request for commercial, residential, and other identifiers of incoming calls. An action is taken in response to the call screening request. The action could be playing an announcement, terminating the connection, forwarding to voice mail, storing the ICLID information in a database, adding the ICLID information to a Do Not Call list, updating a subscriber's profile with the ICLID information, and/or storing the ICLID information in a subscriber's blocked communications list. The call screening request may comprise a Dual-Tone Multi-Frequency, a softkey entry, and/or a data message. Subsequent incoming calls from the calling telephone number are characterized as undesirable and are screened from alerting or otherwise establishing a communications connection to the called telephone number.

A microprocessor configured to execute at least one message management program on the communication device, filters incoming messages. Abstract: The invention relates to a method of handling a telephone call initiated from a calling terminal in a circuit switched telecommunications network by providing called party identification data of a called party to said network. In the method proposed said call is set up by obtaining answering party identification data from a service control point associated with said called party based on said provided called party identification data. Communication is provided through said network between said calling terminal and an answering terminal identified using said answering party identification data. Said answering party identification data is made available to at least one service control point in said network for identifying services associated with said answering terminal. The invention further relates to a switching device for use with said method.

Abstract: A method is disclosed for the presentation of telephone information about a company or other enterprise over the Internet in response to consumer searches for names or products. Department information is included. The system uses a database to determine product slightly sold my search for companies to provide advertisers or sponsors with preferential placement of their ads. Revenue is charged response to clicking on an advertisement. The system also places telephone calls over the Internet to users of the inventive search engine. Advertisers are charged for such calls. Optionally, the system may not allow direct dialing for non-advertisers.

In the event the called party subscriber identifier exists in the CATMG database, a messaging service message is generated. The messaging service message is then transmitted to a contact address.

Abstract: A system for managing contact information between mobile devices. A notification is received any time a mobile device initiates or terminates a communication. The receiving mobile device is prompted to obtain the contact information of the caller. Based on permissions set by the caller, the receiving mobile device may obtain the caller's public contact information, private contact information, none of the caller's contact information or some combination of the caller's public and private contact information. In one embodiment, a subset of the caller's contact information is displayed in the screen of a receiving mobile device coincidentally while receiving the phone call to provide a caller-identification feature.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a method for filtering an incoming call to a communication device. The communication device stores a default ring duration M and a default call frequency N. The communication device may calculate the ring duration of an incoming call, and further determines whether the ring duration reaches the default ring duration M. If the ring duration does not reach the default ring duration M, the communication device determines whether a call frequency of the incoming call reaches the default call frequency N. If the call frequency reaches the default call frequency N, the communication device blocks a phone number of the incoming call.

Abstract: An apparatus for availing a mobile call of caller name information includes: a query unit receiving the mobile call from a caller; an information gleaning unit coupled with the query unit; and at least one data base coupled with the gleaning unit. The query unit inquires whether caller name information is included with the call or a previous attempt has been made to obtain the name information. When the query unit determines that no name information is included with the call and no previous attempt was made, the gleaning unit cooperates with the at least one data base to obtain name information for inclusion with the call. When the query unit determines that name information is included with the call or a previous attempt was made to obtain the name information, the query unit effects onward routing of the call.

Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed for providing Key Word Programmable Caller ID Screening services. One method monitors a telephone call for a key word call screening request. The telephone call is from a calling telephone number to a called telephone number. An action is taken in response to the key word call screening request. The action could be playing an announcement, terminating the connection, forwarding to voice mail, storing, adding, updating, and or blocking incoming communications matching the ICLID information and/or subscriber identified alphanumeric information. The call screening request may comprise a Dual-Tone Multi-Frequency, a softkey entry, and/or a data message. Subsequent incoming calls from the calling telephone number are characterized as undesirable and are screened from alerting or otherwise establishing a communications connection to the called telephone number.

Abstract: Enhanced caller ID display functionality is linked to Photo or image and/or address book or other database information elements associated with the caller by the call recipient to provide a richer Caller ID Display experience. The enhanced ID caller information is displayed on the call recipient's television via, for example, a television set-top box. Advantageously, the call recipient selects the information to associate with the caller. This is advantageous because it is the recipient that is in the best position to know which information, including which image or images, is most useful to the recipient in relation to the caller.

Abstract: An enhanced caller-id service providing multi-media based caller information to subscribers via a server system. The server system can combine user-provided profile information with other data to provide more detailed reports for the subscriber. The server can also be used to maintain long-term calling records for subscribers. The caller information can be accessed remotely by the subscriber and can be downloaded from the server to another computer for use with other applications.

Abstract: A communication assistance system provides access to information corresponding to a plurality of subscribers. The system includes a means for receiving incoming communications from a plurality of requesters desiring to access the information corresponding to subscribers and a database directory listing storing information corresponding to each one of the subscribers. The information includes a pre-announcement field containing information indicating whether a requester is pre-announced before a connection to a subscriber is made.

Abstract: A computer for processing a call originated by a call originator to a call target. The computer includes memory having at least one region for storing computer executable program code and processor for executing the program code stored in the memory. The program code includes code for processing a telephone number of the call target, code for accessing a database storing a plurality of outgoing telephone numbers, code for identifying one of the plurality of outgoing telephone numbers based on the telephone number of the call target, and code for originating the outbound call to the call target and including the identified outgoing telephone number into a caller ID field of the outbound call.

Abstract: A caller ID verifier may be employed to protect telephone users against caller ID spoofing. The caller ID verifier may be implemented in a telephony apparatus, such as a smart phone, stand alone caller ID device, or telephone network infrastructure, for example. Telephone numbers of related callers may be grouped into caller groups. The caller ID verifier may be configured to play one of several audio messages depending on the caller group of the telephone number corresponding to the caller ID of the telephone call. An audio message may include a question. The caller ID verifier may forward the telephone call to the telephone user when the caller answers the question correctly. Otherwise, the caller ID verifier may terminate the telephone call and give the telephone user the option to return the telephone call using the caller ID.

Abstract: A method and communication system is provided to identify a calling/called party when the call is being set up but before the call is answered. In the method, a first terminal and a second terminal are respectively provided with opposing terminal's image data before the call is answered. The image data of the first and second terminals can be registered in a media server disposed between the first and second terminals, and the image data can be transmitted between the first terminal and the media server and between the second terminal and the media server in accordance with an SIP protocol.
