With Interexchange Network Routing Patents (Class 379/220.01)
  • Publication number: 20110317827
Abstract: A call routing device in a communication network is re-entrant to permit a set of call routing rules to be applied more than once. A routing table in the routing device has entries to indicate that an incoming call should be rerouted to the routing device to permit additional call routing rule(s) to be applied to the incoming call. A routing table is provided with entries to indicate when an incoming call should be rerouted to the routing device and how call attributes should be created/modified to achieve call routing in one or more iterations of call routing processing using the routing table. The re-entrant routing device and routing table permits a wide variety of call attributes to be used to direct call routing processing using a routing table that can have a reduced number of entries. The re-entrant routing device and routing table permits a flexible configuration for call routing in communication networks while conserving routing device resources.

  • Patent number: 8085757
Abstract: A telephone number of the callee is received from a caller device. An Internet protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS)-based telephone number mapping (ENUM) query is constructed based on the telephone number of the callee. An ENUM database is queried based on the ENUM query. If a response to the ENUM query is absent a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Uniform Resource Indicator (URI) or a telephone (TEL) URI, the telephone number is resolved into one or more non-SIP/non-TEL URIs usable to communicate with the callee. The caller is enabled to use the caller device or other devices to select which of the one or more non-SIP/non-TEL URIs to use to communicate with the callee. For each caller-selected non-SIP/non-TEL URI, communication in a protocol associated with the URI is initiated between the caller and the callee using the caller device or other devices.

  • Patent number: 8085924
Abstract: A one number, multi-application, intelligent call processing system provides service benefits to a caller, a servicing location and/or a vanity number advertiser during a call, parallel to the call and/or post call in an integrated common architecture. The system utilizes VRU technology in conjunction with the national telecommunications network connected via Computer Telephone Integration (CTI) to a virtual telephone number database containing a nationwide master list of telephone numbers with attribute data items associated by Spatial Key linkage to each telephone number. The process of the invention is initiated by a caller dialing a selected telephone number to request information and/or services. Based on the number dialed, a caller or network provided ten-digit telephone number and VRU prompted for and received caller input, the system retrieves the application requested data from the virtual telephone number database and provides it to the network.

Abstract: Enhanced Origination Services (EOS) for Toll Free (TF) telephone calls consists of uploading instructions to the SMS/800 National Database, which instructions are subsequently downloaded by Signal Control Points (SCPs) in the United States for the routing of TF telephone calls. When a caller dials a TF number, a communication switching device queries the SCP serving the caller's LATA and routes the call according to the EOS instructions for that TF number. EOS instructions route the call to a POTS number in the originating LATA using an IntraLATA Carrier Identification Code. The POTS number is connected to a private gateway, which utilizes the Dialed Number Identification Service (DNIS) of the POTS number to perform a translation function, which may replace the received DNIS with the DNIS of the originally dialed TF number. The call is routed over the private network using the private network owner's database for routing instructions for the specific TF number.

  • Patent number: 7953415
Abstract: A method and system for providing improved wireless number portability. This invention allows the mobile switching center (MSC) to use a separate database to store the number portability information gathered earlier through sending NPreq messages to the number portability database (NPDB) and various strategies for refreshing or updating the internal database. The invention enables the MSC to use the separate database to check whether a portable number is ported and what the associated location routing number (LRN) if it is ported, so that the MSC does not need to send NPreq messages to the NPDB many times for the same ported number. This invention may apply to any number of switching systems, including CDMA, GSM and UMTS mobile switching systems.

  • Patent number: 7924999
Abstract: A communication system is described that comprises a switching system, an SCP, and a customer premises. The customer premises includes a remote processor and a plurality of terminating devices. When in operation, the switching system receives a call. Because of the type of call, the switching system queries the SCP for routing information on where to route the call, and the SCP queries the remote processor in the customer premises. The remote processor processes the query to determine routing information to route the call to a terminating device in the customer premises. The remote processor generates a code that includes the routing information and transmits the code to the SCP. The SCP processes the code to identify the routing information determined by the remote processor. The SCP then transmits the routing information to the switching system to cause the switching system to route the call to the terminating device.

Abstract: Methods of managing media server resources that may be used for VoIP calls are disclosed. In an embodiment, a media server resource broker receives a request for a set of media server resources from an application server. The media server resource broker determines the service request should be handled by a first media server based on the type of request and the availability of the first media server and provides the address of the first media server to the application server. The media server resource broker updates records regarding an assignment level of the first media servers to reflect the most recent request. When the call is complete and the resources become idle, the media server resource broker can update the assignment level to reflect the increase in availability of resources in the first media server.
