Patent number: 8300782Abstract: A security plan for telephone clients allows the client to authenticate itself by sending a coded sequence of DTMF digits to a PBX at the beginning of each call. When the idle client telephone receives a call, it sends a coded DTMF sequence to the PBX. If the client makes a feature invoking call to the PBX while active on the first call, the client will be prompted for the security sequence. The client must send the same sequence of DTMF digits as for the first call. The first call is authenticated by virtue of being a call from the PBX to the telephone. The second call is authenticated by sending a DTMF sequence that matches the one sent with the first call. A call that fails authentication is dropped. The security plan for clients constrains the client to using a callback to originate a call from an idle telephone.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 2009Date of Patent: October 30, 2012Assignee: Avaya Inc.Inventor: Stephen M. Patent number: 8300794Abstract: The same number is redundantly set as the extension number associated to a fourth telephone number in different data tables associated to different second telephone numbers. For this reason, it is possible to maintain outstanding scalability of the system in a situation where the total number of settable numbers is limited. Further, even if an outgoing call is made to a caller side terminal from a lost receiver side terminal using the call register, the receiver number is recognized to be either an extension number associated to a fourth telephone number or an extension number associated to a fifth telephone number, and an instruction to disconnect a first call is sent to the call controller. As a result, the above-mentioned outgoing call (first call) from the lost receiver side terminal is disconnected, thereby making it possible to fully ensure security when a terminal is lost.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 2009Date of Patent: October 30, 2012Assignee: NTT DoCoMo, Inc.Inventors: Ryota Nakanishi, Manabu Fujita, Seiji Koga

Patent number: 8290137Abstract: In a Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) system for completing telephone calls over the Internet, the system uses a general routing table and client exception routing tables to instruct originating gateways about how to complete calls. When a call request for a particular client is received, the system first looks to that client's exception routing table to see if routing information for the call is available. If so, the system will use the routing information in the client's exception routing table to complete the call. The routing information in the client's exception routing table could include information about preferred destination gateways and/or preferred Internet Service Providers. If the client's exception routing table does not contain information that could be used to route the call, then the system simply uses the routing information in the general routing table. In some situations, the system could utilize multiple general routing tables.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 2009Date of Patent: October 16, 2012Assignee: Ibasis, Inc.Inventors: Vitaliy G. The server identifies a mobile identification number associated with the mobile terminal, and based on the identified mobile identification number, the server determines a route that excludes the home node when the mobile terminal is out of the geographical area served by the home node. The server then establishes via the determined route a connection to the mobile terminal and sends to the mobile terminal the data received from the wireline terminal.Type: GrantFiled: May 24, 2005Date of Patent: April 3, 2012Assignee: GTE Wireless IncorporatedInventor: Walter Wesley Howe

Patent number: 8144849Abstract: Establishing a connection from a caller to a user using a pre-authorized credit from the user is described. A processor identifies one or more source identifications (IDs) for receiving pre-authorized credit for the incoming call. One or more destinations are specified to receive the incoming call. The processor defines a rule associated with the one or more destinations and the one or more source IDs. An interface receives the incoming call directed to one of the destinations from the caller. A storage area stores the defined rule. The incoming call and the caller are determined as a function of the one of the destinations, one or more identified source IDs and the defined rule. The pre-authorized credit is issued for the incoming call from the caller if it is determined that the incoming call to the destination satisfies the defined rule. The processor routes the incoming call to the user.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 2007Date of Patent: March 27, 2012Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventor: Lon-Chan Chu

Patent number: 8126017Abstract: A method for address translation in telecommunication networks that reduces the feature-interaction problems is disclosed. In one embodiment, a module in a target region of a request chain is constrained in a way such that that module cannot change a source address in a call request. In a second embodiment, a source feature module in a source region can only replace a source address with a more abstract address than the one it is replacing. In another embodiment, a target feature module in a target region can only replace a target address with a more concrete address than the one it is replacing. In yet another embodiment, a source feature module cannot transmit downstream an alternative source address more concrete than its own address. And in a final embodiment, a target feature module cannot transmit upstream an alternative target address that is more concrete than its own address.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 2005Date of Patent: February 28, 2012Assignee: AT&T Intellectual Property II, L.P.Inventor: Pamela Zave

Publication number: 20120033798Abstract: A method of call control in which a first communications network, detecting calls directed to a destination in the first network; redirects at least some of the calls to a destination in a second network (e.g. on no answer from the destination in the first network). The first network then operates in two phases. In a first phase, for a group of calls redirected to the second network, the time delay before the call is answered in the second network is recorded. When a number of time delays have been recorded, a delay period is set to a value less than the maximum value of the recorded time delays. In a second phase, for a second group of calls redirected to the second network subsequent to the calls of the first group, when a call of the second group is not answered in the second network within the delay period, the call is redirected to a message service associated with the first network.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 11, 2010Publication date: February 9, 2012Inventors: Philip L. Patent number: 8107612Abstract: Session-based data, such as call detail accounting information, is tracked and distributed to a plurality of servers in a distributed telephony environment. One type of session is a telephone call between participants. Session-based data includes information about a session provided by the switches along the media path. Session-based data further includes information related to the session obtained from the application layer (e.g., user input metadata). A network proxy maintains a participant list to which the session data is distributed. The network proxy sends updates to the participants and determines the network status to implement fault tolerance of data distribution.Type: GrantFiled: May 7, 2008Date of Patent: January 31, 2012Assignee: ShoreTel, Inc.Inventor: Kenneth A. Patent number: 8107609Abstract: The present invention provides flexible call processing. In one embodiment, a first call from a calling party intended for a called party is received at a call processing system. The call processing system places a second call to a telephonic device associated with the called party. The calling party and called party communicate via the first and second calls. A determination is made that the first call has been terminated. A call-back instruction is received from the called party while the second call is still in place. At least partly in response to receiving the call-back instruction, a third call is placed to a terminal associated with the calling party. The calling party and the called party can communicate via the second call and the third call.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 2005Date of Patent: January 31, 2012Assignee: Callwave, Inc.Inventors: David S. Patent number: 8102988Abstract: A third party tandem provider that intercepts and routes voice and data traffic between telecommunications carriers, e.g., wireless carriers, local exchange carriers, and long distance carriers, by dynamically determining the actual terminating switch for a call using a plurality of proprietary databases versus terminating calls merely based on the switch associated with the terminating telephone number. The tandem services provider Service Control Point (SCP) is arranged to maintain a carrier unit's status in a resident database or secure such information per call from the terminating carrier's database. When a call is placed to a telephone number associated with a carrier connected to the tandem, the tandem platform Service Switching Point (SSP) queries the SCP for availability and routing instructions. In response, the SCP accesses its database and/or the terminating carrier's database to determine the status of the unit.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 2005Date of Patent: January 24, 2012Assignee: Neutral Tandem, Inc.Inventors: Ronald W. Patent number: 8090090Abstract: Telephone users desiring directory assistance services are connected via standard telephone procedures to a directory assistance provider, such as an operator. An operator provides the destination number and initiates a connection to that number. Once that connection is initiated, the connection is monitored for the occurrence of a predetermined condition, such as a busy signal. If no such condition is detected, the caller proceeds with the call in the normal manner. If, however, such a condition is detected, the caller is automatically transferred to a directory assistance provider for further help.Type: GrantFiled: June 26, 2008Date of Patent: January 3, 2012Assignee: Grape Technology Group, Inc.Inventors: Patrick M.
