Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes a resolution converting unit, an address generating unit, a density determining unit, and an image path selector. The resolution converting unit converts a resolution of image data into a higher resolution. The address generating unit performs a position determining process of determining a position of an additional pixel on the basis of main-scanning directional positions of pixels composing the converted image data and respective shift amounts of the pixels shifted to a sub-scanning direction. The density determining unit determines a density of the additional pixel on the basis of a density of a pixel located at a position corresponding to the determined position in the image data. The image path selector scales the image data up or down by controlling the address generating unit while adding the additional pixel having the determined density to the determined position.

  • Patent number: 8630509
Abstract: An image represented by multiple nodes can be processed by determining whether labels can be propagated to a node from another node of the image. Conceptually, an image can be presented as a “structured grid” of multiple nodes (e.g., a structured grid of pixels of an image). In a “structured grid,” two or more nodes of the same level (e.g., nodes in the same gray level) can determine in parallel whether to propagate a label from one or more of its neighboring nodes that are labeled and propagate one or more labels accordingly. An image can be processed by iteratively repeating this process for nodes of successive levels. It will be appreciated that the disclosed techniques allow parallelism without requiring partitioning of an image or having to merge partitioned images. The disclosed techniques are especially suited for watershed algorithms.

  • Patent number: 8630499
Abstract: When an image processing apparatus capable of connecting to a digital camera is to perform image-correction processing on irreversible-compression encoded image data acquired from the digital camera, it is determined whether the image-correction processing can be executed by the connected digital camera. When the processing can be executed, it is confirmed whether or not RAW data that corresponds to the irreversible-compression encoded image data is present in the digital camera. If the corresponding RAW data is present in the digital camera, the digital camera is requested to execute the image-correction processing based on the RAW data. This makes it possible to suppress degradation in the image quality more than when directly correcting an irreversible-compression encoded image.

  • Patent number: 8588308
Abstract: This disclosure describes unique video encoding and decoding processes compliant to one or more specific coding standards, such as the H.264/AVC standard, without sacrificing coding efficiency. A higher resolution input image is divided into a corresponding set of lower resolution sub-sampled images. The first image of each set is coded as an independent I picture, or coded with respect to the first image of one or more other sets as a P or B picture. Each subsequent image of a set, other than the first image in each set, is encoded with respect to the first image of the same set or an image of another set as a regular P or B picture. A decoding process may employ a decoder conforming to the specific coding standard to decode the encoded data, by rearranging the decoded lower resolution sub-sampled images of each set into corresponding higher resolution output images.

Abstract: Visually defining terminology in a paragraph by invoking a multi-media viewer to rotate a subject-object and zoom-in on the associated feature in response to clicking on the terminology; higher resolution, or a different image capture technique is then overlaid. Viewer re-positions near terminology clicked. Clicking on a feature answers a question. Two viewers are synchronized to display the same pose to facilitate a phone conversation; synchronization session is initiated by a pattern of sounds transmitted over the phone. Viewer analytics information is a heat map indicating angles seen, paused, zoomed-in, or terminology clicked; ranks different marketing message wording. After webpage loads, an image having a special pattern within its filename is replaced with multi-media viewer. Upon loading or providing additional subject-object data, advertisements are shown if a subscription fee is not paid. Clipboard data is copied to another computer by a pattern of sounds transmitted over the phone.

  • Patent number: 8582815
Abstract: A moving object detection apparatus generates frame difference image data each time a frame data is captured, based on the captured frame data and previous frame data, and such frame difference image data is divided into pixel blocks. Subsequently, for each of the pixel blocks a discrete cosine transformation (DCT), a two-dimensional DCT coefficient is calculated, and such two-dimensional DCT coefficients are accumulated and stored. The value of each element of the two-dimensional DCT coefficient is arranged to form a characteristic vector, and, for each of the pixel blocks at the same position of the frame difference image data, the characteristic vector is generated and then such characteristic vector is arranged to form a time-series vector. The time-series vector derived from moving-object-capturing pixel blocks is used to calculate a principal component vector and a principal component score.

  • Patent number: 8581922
Abstract: There are provided systems and methods for tinting an image by monochromatic tinting using saturation maps for use by an application providing a user interface supporting customizable tinted images. By using saturation map and a monochromatic value map derived from the image and configuring the saturation map to specify areas for tinting, a tint color can be applied to the image by a series of quickly processed arithmetic calculations. This provides a lightweight and high quality method for tinting images within an application without wasting unnecessary network bandwidth or processor resources. Furthermore, the method can be adapted to apply multiple tint colors for multiple tints or use an alpha channel to restore color information lost due to the monochromatic value map. The resulting tinted image can also be used as a texture for a three-dimensional rendering engine.
