A compressed spring within the handle can be released by removing a stop. This causes a piston at the end of the spring to eject the toothpaste through the dispensing orifice on the bristles. The stop is advantageously formed integrally with the plug.

In another alternative embodiment the receptacle 38 is equipped with a syringe-like plunger 40 whereby the plunger can be used to force cleaning fluid 22 out of the nozzle 35 under pressure thereby creating a pressurized stream for cleaning a proximate object.

An applicator tip is connected to the mud supply head and can be connected to either a flat joint attachment or a corner joint attachment.     Abstract: A method of storing and applying toothpaste to a toothbrush includes steps of connecting a threaded male end of a tube of toothpaste to a female end of a storage receptacle, forcing toothpaste from the tube of toothpaste into the storage receptacle, disconnecting the tube of toothpaste from the storage receptacle, connecting a male end of a brush member to the female end of the storage receptacle, and forcing toothpaste out of the storage receptacle and into the brush member, whereby the toothbrush is made ready to brush a consumer's teeth. A system for performing the improved method is also described.

Separating the gate from the actuator permits the gate to be positively sealed against the chamber outlet by the toothpaste in the closed valve position. A lengthwise segment of the gate has a reduced thickness dimension so as not to fill the upstream side of the valve chamber, thereby avoiding the creation of a partial vacuum that would otherwise hold the gate in its open position.
