Member Preassembled With Substructure At Through-passage Or Recess For Holding Single Bolt Or Nut In Coaxial Relation Therewith Patents (Class 411/103)
  • Patent number: 4432575
Abstract: An adjustable lock striker bolt assembly includes an anchor plate which is manually snap assembled to a retention bracket by an operator without tools and with limited access to the inside of the lock pillar. The retention bracket includes a pair of spaced laterally extending retention flanges, each including a retention slot. The anchor plate includes a thickened central body portion and a pair of legs extending oppositely therefrom. To assemble the anchor plate to the bracket, one leg of the anchor plate is inserted through the slot of one flange until the central body portion contains the one flange. This locates the edge portion of the other leg in engagement with the other flange. Manual pressure of the anchor plate snaps the edge portion of the other leg into the slot of the other flange.

  • Patent number: 4428705
Abstract: A metal insert, especially a threaded insert, is secured in a lightweight, andwich type panel with the aid of a spreading dowel. First, a hole is machined, for example drilled, through one cover and through the core of the panel down to, but not through, the other cover. Then a spreading dowel is inserted into the hole so that it rests on the other cover. Then the metal insert is pressed into the spreading dowel, whereby the spreading wing elements are spread substantially radially outwardly until the outwardly facing surface of the insert is flush with the outer surface of the panel cover. In the last step the voids are filled with a hardening or curing synthetic resin bonding material. The spreading dowel has a leg base and spreading wings hinged to the base. A cam surface on each wing assures that the force resulting from pressing an insert into the dowel spreads the wings until the insert rests on a shoulder of each wing.

  • Patent number: 4396327
Abstract: A screw is captured in an assembly of concentric sleeves, the inner one of which has a flange, and an outer workpiece is clamped between the flange and the outer sleeve. The outer workpiece has a sufficiently large, beveled bore to permit radial play of the assembly. The outer sleeve has a threaded inner flange at the other end; and the two sleeves are assembled in press fit.

  • Patent number: 4377359
Abstract: A nut device permitting securement of and to thin panel members. An axially extending, internally threaded shank has two laterally extending flanges interconnected to one end, the flanges being bent downward. Two beam members extend laterally from the shank in a direction which is generally perpendicular to the flanges, the ends of the beam members being bent upwardly toward the flanges. The nut is inserted in a slot in the panel by positioning the beam members parallel to the slot, pushing downwardly on the beam members to flex the flanges so that the beam members may be rotated clockwise beneath the panel. The flanges and beam members cooperate to frictionally clamp the panel and resist lateral and rotational displacement relative to the panel. A specially configured tool is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4285380
Abstract: A grommet attached to a top panel captures a stud nut of a panel fastener through a retaining ring held by the grommet. A complimentary stud assembly attaches to a subpanel and receives the stud nut to clamp the panels together. The grommet has a stand-off base that projects axially from a counterbore in the top panel to form a barrier for a gasket. A flared end of the grommet and the standoff base clamp the top panel between them. The retaining ring compressively bears radially against the stud nut to retain it in any desired axial position and maintain axial alignment of the stud nut. The stud nut can draw completely into the top panel. The stud nut has a clear-through bore threaded at one end. A wrenching recess, defined by a hardened insert, occupies the other end of the bore. A plug separates the wrenching recess from the threads. A basket of the stud assembly attaches to the subpanel by rivets. A barrel attaches to the basket through lugs engaged in slots of down turned wings of the basket.
