Abstract: A method of producing a CMC article having a net shape, and by which the article can be formed to have an exterior surface with desirable characteristics, such as being free of an imprint pattern of a fiber reinforcement material within the article. The method entails providing a body comprising the fiber reinforcement material, and depositing a coating on a surface of the body. The coating contains a carbonaceous binder and a slurry containing a ceramic particulate material. Following its deposition, the carbonaceous binder within the coating is cured to render the coating machinable, and the coating is then machined to approximately produce the net shape of the article.

Abstract: Antimicrobial compositions may provide varying release kinetics for the active ions in the compositions due to the different water solubilities of the ions, allowing antimicrobial release profiles to be tailored for a given application and providing for sustained antimicrobial activity over time. According to some embodiments, the antimicrobial compositions may comprise polymer compositions containing colloids including salts of one or more oligodynamic metals, such as gallium. The antimicrobial compositions may be produced, for example, by mixing a solution of the salts of one or more oligodynamic metals with a polymer solution or dispersion and precipitating a colloid of the metal salts by addition of other salts to the solution which react with the metal salts. The compositions can be incorporated into articles or can be employed as a coating on articles such as medical devices including, for example, catheters, implants, and endotracheal tubes. The coatings may be on all or part of a surface.

Abstract: Certain example embodiments relate to a draw-off coating apparatus and/or system for depositing a coating on a substrate (e.g., a glass substrate), and/or a method of making coating articles using the same. At least one substrate to be coated is inserted into a tank. A liquid or sol-gel like mixture (either or both of which may have a low viscosity) is pumped into the tank in a controlled manner. The at least one substrate is allowed to dwell in the mixture. The liquid or sol-gel like mixture is drawn-off of the tank in another controlled manner. The drawn-off liquid or sol-gel like mixture may be provided to another tank having at least one substrate to be coated. Thus, it is possible in certain example embodiments to form coatings on large-dimension glass substrates, while enabling desired coating performance on one or both surfaces of the glass substrates to be achieved.
