Abstract: A one-way vision film includes a white film base material; a shrinkable color tone layer on one side of the base material; and a self-adsorptive foamed layer on the base material opposite to the shrinkable color tone layer. The one-way vision film is perforated with through-holes. The self-adsorptive foamed layer has an adhesive function attachable to a surface onto which the film is attached and is printable. Since the printing ink is deposited to the bottoms of the open pores while not closing the openings of the open pores, open pores exposed to the surface of the foamed layer function like suction cups adhering onto a smooth surface. Accordingly, there is no need for forming ink-receptive and pressure-sensitive layers, unlike a conventional film, so the film can have a low cost, three-layer structure. The one-way vision and printed film is easily attachable onto a smooth and transparent substrate like glass.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a silicon carbide ingot having highly uniform characteristics includes a preparation step of preparing a base substrate made of single crystal silicon carbide and having an off angle of 0.1° or more and 10° or less in an off angle direction which is either a <11-20> direction or a <1-100> direction relative to a (0001) plane, and a film formation step of growing a silicon carbide layer on a surface of the base substrate. In the film formation step, a region having a (0001) facet 5 is formed on a surface of the grown silicon carbide layer at an end portion on an upstream side, the upstream side being a side where an angle of intersection between a <0001> direction axis of the base substrate and the surface of the base substrate in the off angle direction is an acute angle.

Abstract: Methods of forming one or more grooves in a component are provided. One method includes using a first machining technique to form one or more preliminary grooves in an outer surface of a substrate. Each preliminary groove has a base and extends at least partially along the outer surface of the substrate, and the substrate has an inner surface that defines at least one hollow, interior space. The method further includes using a second machining technique to further machine the preliminary groove(s) to form the respective groove(s). In addition, the method includes forming one or more access holes through the base of a respective groove to connect the respective groove in fluid communication with the respective hollow interior space. Components with grooves characterized by a sidewall radius R in a range of 0?R?0.127 mm are also provided.

Abstract: Multi-ply laminate composite components of non-planar shape can be formed with apertures defined therein, instead of cutting the apertures after forming the multi-ply laminate composite component. This is achieved by cutting apertures in the individual plies before the plies are assembled and consolidated, with the aperture or apertures in each ply, or in each set of plies, positioned to accommodate the local distance differential between adjacent plies, or sets of plies, so that the resulting component aperture or apertures will achieve a desired alignment. Removable pins can be used to maintain the plies in alignment during the consolidation process, and fittings such as annular collars can be secured in the component apertures during consolidation.

Abstract: A container liner comprises at least one sheet bounded along portions thereof to form at least one peripheral seam, with the at least one sheet including a first fluoropolymer layer, a barrier film layer, and a third layer bonded along at least peripheral portions thereof. Any of such layers may be peripherally bonded to form a gap or pocket therebetween, or bonded along substantially entire major surfaces thereof. Surface modification may be employed to facilitate bonding of materials having otherwise dissimilar surface energies. The resulting liner is adapted for storing and dispensing high purity chemical reagents, e.g., by placing the liner in an overpack, and applying pressurizing gas to a space between the liner and the overpack for progressive compaction of the liner to dispense its contents.

Abstract: An apparel constructed from various combinations of layers of materials with selected thermal and moisture transfer properties in order to provide improved performance characteristics. The inner layers manage the body heat of an individual by reflection and thermal retention while also providing moisture wicking and antimicrobial function. The middle layers manage thermal isolation from the external temperatures by using materials with very low thermal conductivity in combination with waterproof layers that can also be breathable. The outer layers manage external durability, water repellency and waterproofness. The apparel can be constructed with all layers made into one material and in one garment, or constructed as two garments with one being for body heat thermal function and one being for weather insulation and reflection function. The material is made to be optionally form fitting with high stretch.

  • Patent number: 8309200
Abstract: A reflective insulation system. The reflective insulation system includes a reflective layer such as aluminum, a layer of fiberglass, and a layer of vapor retarding material. A first side of the layer of fiberglass is bonded to the reflective layer by a deposit of hot melt glue. The second side of the layer of fiberglass is bonded to the layer of vapor retarding material by a second deposit of hot melt glue. The vapor retarding layer may be a plastic material, such as polypropylene or a reflective material, such as aluminum. In an alternate construction, the reflective layer has a transverse dimension that is narrower than the vapor retarding material such that edge portions of the reflective layer are spaced inwardly with respect to edges of said vapor retarder material. A strip of adhesive tape, preferably foil tape, overlies and secures edge portions of the reflective and vapor retarder layers.

  • Patent number: 8303751
Abstract: A fiber reinforced panel is manufactured to include an integral vent screen. Holes are made in each of first and second sheets of fiber and the holes register with each other when the sheets are stacked within a mold. A screen material is placed between the first and second sheets so that a part of the screen material that registers with the holes in the first sheet and second sheet is exposed. Filler inserts are inserted into the holes of the first and second sheets to mask the screen. A resin is provided and cured to bond together the first and second sheets and the screen. Thus, the screen remains exposed after the first and second sheets and screen have been bonded together by the resin, thereby forming a fiber reinforced panel having an integrally molded vent screen therein.
