  • Patent number: 8571583
Abstract: An MME keeps track of network tracking mobility characteristics by periodically updating a TA transition probability matrix derived from a global table that maintains UE movement data in the network by noting current TA and most recently known previous TA of each EU for every TAU event and paging event. The MME also maintains data of the number of paging events and TAUs performed by each UE and stores a paging ratio versus TAU for each UE. The UE characteristics, UE paging ratio, and network mobility characteristic are utilized in an algorithm that constructs a TA list for each UE designed to minimize the overall traffic cost function for paging events and TAU events for that UE and the overall network. Optionally, the TA list for each EU is constrained to meet certain minimum performance characteristics such as a predetermined paging success rate target and/or a predetermined delay bound target.

Abstract: A channel structure has at least two channel sets. Each channel set contains multiple channels and is associated with a specific mapping of the channels to the system resources available for data transmission. Each channel set may be defined based on a channel tree having a hierarchical structure. To achieve intra-cell interference diversity, the channel-to-resource mapping for each channel set is pseudo-random with respect to the mapping for each remaining channel set. In each scheduling interval, terminals are scheduled for transmission on the forward and/or reverse link. The scheduled terminals are assigned channels from the channel sets. Multiple terminals may use the same system resources and their overlapping transmissions may be separated in the spatial domain. For example, beamforming may be performed to send multiple overlapping transmissions on the forward link, and receiver spatial processing may be performed to separate out multiple overlapping transmissions received on the reverse link.

  • Patent number: 8538450
Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate responding to overload indicators in a wireless communication environment. A non-serving base station can send an over-the-air (OTA) overload indicator (OI) and a backhaul OI. A UE can receive the OTA OI from the non-serving base station, generate a report based upon the OTA OI, and send the report to a serving base station. The serving base station can receive the report from the UE, and generate a power control command for the UE based at least in part upon the report. Moreover, the serving base station can generate the power control command for the UE further based upon the backhaul OI received from the non-serving base station. For example, the UE can be configured to ignore the OTA OI. By way of another example, the serving base station can cause the non-serving base station to inhibit sending the backhaul OI.

  • Patent number: 8532689
Abstract: The present invention relates to a cellular communication and addresses the problem of an LTE UE measuring downlink quality when the load in cell varies instantaneously and over a wide frequency spectrum. The UE lacks capacity to measure over frequency bandwidth and time needed to make a cell load measure with sufficient reliability for making a inter-cell handover or an inter RAT handover. The solution is the DL power transmitted in a narrow band of the carrier frequency is adjusted to reflect the total cell load. The total cell load is measured and averaged over time and made proportional to the frequency carrier bandwidth. The power may be controlled for specific time slots in the narrow frequency band for the terminal to measure on. This is advantageous because then the waste power needed for enabling the UE measured can be reduced and the extra interference caused by the invention be reduced.

  • Patent number: 8532025
Abstract: Certain embodiments of the present disclosure may allow WiMAX signaling overhead to be reduced by sending burst allocation information to MSs using messages that may be transmitted using more efficient modulation coding schemes (MCSs) than that allowed for DL-MAP and UL-MAP messages. For example, burst allocation information may be sent in SUB-DL-UL-MAP or HARQ-MAP messages that may be encoded with selectable MCSs that result in higher data rate than an MCS used for conventional DL-MAP and UL-MAP messages. For certain embodiments, MSs may be partitioned into groups based on CINR and the burst allocation information for each group may be transmitted using an MCS that is appropriate for that group based on the CINR for MSs in that group.
