  • Patent number: 8611901
Abstract: Techniques are provided for transmitting and receiving communications on behalf of wireless user equipment devices between a plurality of radio access point (RAP) devices and a gateway apparatus through a controller apparatus. A controller apparatus generates a plurality of first identifiers used for communications on behalf of corresponding wireless user devices between the controller apparatus and respective RAPs. Each first identifier identifies a wireless user device and a RAP to which the wireless user device is associated. The controller apparatus maps each first identifier to a corresponding one of a plurality of second identifiers for communications exchanged on behalf of the wireless user devices between the controller apparatus and a gateway apparatus in the wireless cellular communication network. The controller apparatus remaps a new first identifier to an existing second identifier when a particular wireless user device has handed over from a first RAP to a second RAP.

  • Patent number: 8588701
Abstract: A communication flow for HSUPA is shown that allows a NodeB to measure the thermal plus background noise level (Prx—noise), and at the same time which also allows the RNC, according to its own (centralized) strategy, to overwrite the very same value that is then used in NodeB (de-centralized) scheduling.

Abstract: The disclosure is related to a method of adaptive call admission control in a base station. When a call access request is received from a user equipment determination may be made as to whether an available call admission capacity of the base station reaches a first limit. When the available call admission capacity of the base station reaches the first limit determination may be made as to whether the received call access request is for a preferred call. Then, determination may be made as to whether a reserved call admission capacity reaches a second limit when the received call access request is for the preferred call. When the reserved call admission capacity has not reached a second limit, access of the user equipment associated with the received call access request may be allowed.

  • Patent number: 8583129
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for acquiring/providing available channel information using Generic Advertisement Service (GAS) protocol in a wireless local area network (WLAN) are disclosed. AP (Access Point) station has a capability to acquire information for available channels from a database using a specific protocol related to an operation within the White Space (e.g. Access Network Query Protocol (ANQP)). And, non-AP station can retrieve the information for available channels by transmitting a Generic Advertisement Service (GAS) initial request frame to the AP station, wherein the GAS initial request frame comprises an Advertisement Protocol Element whose element ID indicates the specific protocol, and receiving a GAS initial response frame comprising a White Space Map (WSM) the specific protocol.

  • Patent number: 8583136
Abstract: There are provided a communication device, service-area adjusting method, and mobile communication system capable of accurately executing an optimization algorithm on an actual field. An EMS (a communication device) acquires an index value indicating downstream reception quality of a mobile station in a communication area from the mobile station via a base station in the communication area with respect to each mobile station. Then, the EMS determines whether to start or end the execution of arithmetic processing of a transmission parameter of each base station in the communication area by comparing a value based on at least any of average communication quality between the base station and mobile station in the communication area, throughput, and received power, which is obtained based on an index value of each mobile station, with a reference value.

  • Patent number: 8583118
Abstract: A mobility management control method and system that can redress the uneven loads on base stations in a mobile communications network are provided. Multiple base stations in a tracking area each have a mobile station mobility management function. A base station positioned at an edge of the tracking area monitors its own load state. Depending on its own load state, the base station relocates to another base station a location management function with respect to a new location management request, or a location management function as a mobility management serving base station with which location management has been already performed for a mobile station.

  • Patent number: 8583137
Abstract: Techniques for dynamically varying coverage in a multi-carrier communication system are described. A sector may operate on multiple carriers. The sector may vary coverage on a given carrier k based on its load, so that less interference may be caused to other sectors when the sector load is light. In one design, the sector may communicate on a first carrier at a first transmit power level and on a second carrier at a second transmit power level equal to or lower than the first transmit power level. The sector may vary the second transmit power level based on its load to vary the coverage of the second carrier. The sector may reduce the second transmit power level to zero or a low level if the sector load is light. The sector may also vary the second transmit power level based on a function of sector load or a switching pattern.

  • Patent number: 8583114
Abstract: A method of identifying an available channel of a plurality of frequency channels defined in a radio frequency spectrum for use by a transmitting station, wherein scanning for an available channel in a frequency spectrum is performed by a scanning method in which a bidirectional search is performed away from an initial channel frequency. The method may include steps to take when a boundary of the spectrum is encountered, and may also take into account existing information concerning channel reservation. A related scanner and radio apparatus is also described.

  • Patent number: 8576805
Abstract: A subscriber controlled registration protocol, a subscriber monitors a congestion indicator signal broadcasted by a base station with which it desires to register. If the congestion indicator signal indicates that the base station is operating in a congested state, the mobile station selects another base station in the system. Otherwise, it attempts to register with the first selected base station.

  • Patent number: 8577385
Abstract: A group transfer function (GTF) receives a plurality of inputs and media for delivery to a plurality of mobile devices. The mobile devices are served by a plurality of cells potentially having a plurality of different radio access technologies such that each mobile device is wirelessly connected to one of the cells. The GTF applies policy rules to the inputs to determine, for each mobile device, content delivery using point-to-multipoint or point-to-point media transport based on the capabilities of the servicing cell. The GTF initiates an allocation of a set of resources in each cell to transport the media to each mobile device in the group using the determined media transport for that mobile device. Media is then replicated by the GTF for delivery to the mobile devices over the allocated resources.

  • Patent number: 8576712
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing a reliable Voice Extensible Markup Language (VXML) over packet networks such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and Service over Internet Protocol (SoIP) network are disclosed. For example, a service provider may utilize a plurality of content servers that can be accessed by at least one telephony browser. The telephony browser can reach the content browsers directly as well as through a shared server that may load balance among the content servers. When a request for a VXML content, e.g., a VXML application, is received, the telephony browser sends the request to the shared server. If the request fails or a response is not received prior to expiration of a predetermined time interval, then the telephony browser sends a second request directly to one of the content servers that is capable of providing the requested content.
