  • Patent number: 8811406
Abstract: A distributed switch may include a plurality of sub-switches. These sub-switches may be arranged in a hierarchy that increases the available bandwidth for transmitting multicast data frames across the switch fabric. Moreover, the distributed switch may be compatible with link aggregation where multiple physical connections are grouped together to create an aggregated (logical) link. Link aggregation requires similar data frames to use the same data path when traversing the distributed switch. With a unicast data frame, the sub-switch in the distributed switch that receives the data frame typically identifies the destination port (during a process called link selection) and forwards the data frame to the sub-switch containing that port. However, with multicast data frames, instead of the receiving sub-switch performing link selection to determine the destination port, link selection may be done by a different sub-switch or not done at all.

  • Patent number: 8768361
Abstract: A method for reducing the handover frequency by a femto gateway in femtocell networks includes the steps: receiving a measurement report from a communication device by an initial femtocell; transmitting a relocation required message to a femto gateway by the initial femtocell if the signal strength thereof is below a threshold; ignoring the relocation required message and enabling the timer by the femto gateway after receiving the relocation required message; determining whether the cell ID included in the call reestablishment request message is classified as “femtocell” or not by the femto gateway before the timer expires; if so, rebuilding the link to the femtocell in response to the cell ID by the femto gateway.

  • Patent number: 8767567
Abstract: A wireless communication system uses a series of repeating overhead time cycles that each comprise a plurality of time slots. The system exchanges overhead information with wireless communication devices during individual time slots. The communication system wirelessly receives a registration request for wireless communication service from a wireless communication device. The communication system processes loading information for the overhead time cycles or a quality of service level of the wireless communication device to assign the wireless communication device to one of the overhead time cycles. The communication system wirelessly indicates the assigned overhead time cycle to the wireless communication device. The communication device monitors the overhead time slots during the assigned one of the overhead time cycles and does not monitor the overhead time slots during the not assigned overhead time cycles.

  • Patent number: 8768357
Abstract: In a communication system in which a mobile station accessing the main network via a plurality of base stations, the mobile station can freely select any of the base stations as a forward link (FL) serving station. In addition, the mobile station can also freely select another or the same base station as a reverse link (RL) serving station. The mobile station has stored in its memory a plurality of routes corresponding to the plurality of base stations, with each route dedicatedly assigned to a particular base station. During handoff of one base station to another as either the FL or the RL serving station, exchanged data packets are processed in the respective routes of the base stations involved.

  • Patent number: 8761775
Abstract: A method and corresponding apparatus or system is disclosed for managing operating in a cellular wireless communication system. The method involves detecting a threshold transition of user devices (generally any wireless communication devices) that are actively operating in a given wireless coverage area into a state of soft handoff between the given coverage area and another coverage area, and perhaps a resulting threshold increase in total transmission power in the given coverage area, and responsively forcing out of the given coverage area at least one user device that is in soft handoff with the given coverage area. The method may thereby help to avoid or minimize an undesirable cyclic power increase effect that could lead to power overload.
