Load Balancing Patents (Class 455/453)
  • Patent number: 9635707
Abstract: A radio base station (eNB1) receives load information indicating the load level of different radio base station (eNB2) and adjusts a base station parameter, which is used for defining coverage, in accordance with a result of comparison between the load level of the radio base station (eNB1) and that of the different radio base station (eNB2). The radio base station (eNB1) corrects at least one of the load level of the radio base station (eNB1) and that of the different radio base station (eNB2), which are compared with each other, in accordance with a number of radio terminals connected to the radio base station (eNB1).

  • Patent number: 9601121
Abstract: Embodiments disclosed herein provide systems and methods for override vocoder capacity operating point (COP) allocation. In a particular embodiment, a method provides determining a communication load on a wireless access node. Based on the communication load, the method provides allocating a first COP for a vocoder, wherein the vocoder is used on voice communications exchanged with the wireless access node. The method further provides determining a frame error rate of a wireless communication link between a wireless communication device and the wireless access node. If the frame error rate indicates that a COP of the wireless communication link should be lower than the first COP, the method provides allocating an override COP to the COP of the wireless communication link based on the frame error rate.

  • Patent number: 9590902
Abstract: Techniques are described for signaling aliasing capability between routers in a multi-tenant data center that uses VPNs, such as Ethernet VPNs. In the multi-tenant data center, two or more PE routers may be connected to a CE router by a multi-homed L2 segment in an all-active mode. Aliasing refers to the ability of a PE router to signal that it can reach a given multi-homed L2 segment even when the PE router has learned no MAC addresses over that multi-homed L2 segment. The PE routers on the multi-homed L2 segment advertise aliasing capability using a route advertisement on a per-L2 segment basis. When the multi-tenant data center uses global VPN identifiers, no additional information is needed by a remote PE to build an ECMP next hop to the PE routers that support aliasing, and transmission of a route advertisement on a per-VPN basis may be suppressed.

  • Patent number: 9591536
Abstract: Traffic associated with user equipment that are served by a first radio access network is steered to a second radio access network based on a cell user occupancy criterion. Cell user occupancy data that represents a maximum number of devices served by an access point is determined based on a type of the access point (e.g., macro access point, femto access point, WiFi access point, etc.). Further, based on the cell user occupancy data, a normalized index value is generated that is relative to different cell types/capacities. The cell user occupancy data is then transmitted to one or more neighboring access points that can utilize the cell user occupancy data to facilitate traffic steering, load balancing, and/or neighbor relationship management.

Abstract: WI-FI/3GPP access selection techniques are used to control selection by a user terminal between cellular network cells and WI-FI cells. Cellular network cells providing overlapping coverage with WI-FI cells are correlated with the WI-FI cells. A received signal strength threshold is determined for each WI-FI cell based on an average throughput of the cellular network cells correlated with the WI-FI cell. The WI-FI user terminal admit threshold is used to control the effective coverage of the WI-FI cell. A user terminal operating within a cellular network cell is admitted to a WI-FI only if it is within the effective coverage area of the WI-FI cell as determined by the received signal strength threshold. Increasing the threshold shrinks the effective coverage area of the WI-FI cell to allow user terminal only of strong RSSI to make connection to the Cell, and steers user terminal of weak RSSI away from the WI-FI cell.

Abstract: A signal transmission method using a multicast broadcast single frequency network (MBSFN) subframe in a radio communication system is provided. The method includes: selecting a plurality of relay stations for transmitting a plurality of backhaul signals, and transmitting the plurality of backhaul signals to the selected respective relay stations by using different radio resources, wherein each of the selected relay stations configures a subframe for receiving each of the plurality of backhaul signals as the MBSFN subframe. Accordingly, the backhaul signal can be transmitted between the base station and the plurality of relay stations by effectively using the radio resources.

  • Patent number: 9408107
Abstract: In a multi-access system, an access selection principle is achieved by selecting a signal strength threshold level (130-133) based on a determined load level (ULOCAL) in a first access network. A new user in an area commonly covered by more than one access network attempts to allocate to the first access network if an experienced signal strength exceeds the signal strength threshold level (130-133). Communication utility can preferably be maximized or at least be taken into account by using suitable load level dependencies. By increasing the threshold when the load level approaches the capacity limit, a completely filled first access network is avoided. This gives an opportunity to let particularly well-suited users still have access to the first access network. At the same time, since the preferred access is decided before the actual access attempt, control signalling can be significantly reduced, even at very high traffic loads.

Abstract: Systems and methods for providing load based optimizations in communication networks are provided. A network device that provides network management and exchanges control messages with other network devices in the communication network can be modified to masquerade as a radio access transceiver to obtain radio access transceiver load information. The network device can be modified to include a radio-related interface and can communicate messages with the radio access transceivers to setup a radio access transceiver connection for exchange of load information. The radio access transceiver load information can then be used in the core network to provide optimizations for the loaded radio access transceivers. The optimizations can include modifying packet flows to decrease the bandwidth needed and switching one or more packet flows to another radio access transceiver.

Vehicular data mobile access involves properties and characteristics different from those of portable user data devices, and thus exhibit different criteria for cellular data offloading. Embodiments of the invention provide vehicle metrics to be used in conjunction with data requirement metrics in compiling the access lists and making the optimum selections based on the vehicle's predicted route. A predictive look-ahead is also provided, for use when predictive routing information is not available or is unreliable.

Abstract: A radio access network (RAN) may be providing, in a coverage area, at least two access channels that are available for use by any wireless communication devices (WCD). Thereafter, the RAN may detect that a threshold load exists in the coverage area and responsively reserve one of the access channels for use only by authorized WCDs. In turn, authorized WCDs in the coverage area may be configured to use the reserved access channel to transmit access probes to the RAN, while unauthorized WCDs in the coverage area may be configured to use only a generally-available access channel to transmit access probes to the RAN. In this way, the disclosed methods and corresponding devices may limit the occupancy on the reserved access channel and thereby increase the likelihood that authorized WCDs can successfully access the RAN over the reserved access channel when the coverage area becomes congested.
