Channel Selection Or Allocation Patents (Class 455/464)
  • Patent number: 6349210
Abstract: A method and apparatus for broadcasting messages in accordance with the presentinvention transmits a broadcast message within a wireless communication system or network utilization of redundant Request-to-Send type or broadcast notice messages or packets BRTS). A source node repeatedly transmits a sequence of these messages over a system reservation channel with each message containing a sequence identifier. The sequence identifier of each succeeding message has a value immediately preceding the identifier of the previously transmitted broadcast notice message. A destination node receives the messages and determines the transmission time of the broadcast message based on each received message identifier. Subsequent transmission and reception of the final broadcast notice message in the sequence, the broadcast message is transmitted by the source node to the destination node over a data channel identified in the transmitted messages.

  • Patent number: 6314292
Abstract: A method is illustrated for reducing the call setup time of high priority calls such as voice or high speed user generated data without unduly wasting RF frequency resources on non priority calls such as short message calls. This is accomplished by ascertaining the call priority at the base station controller (BSC) level in a GSM system soon after call initiation and immediately changing the channel assignment for use by the remaining signalling type messages to a different operational speed where appropriate. The concept is further extended by supplying the call priority data to a called party's BSC such that all signalling messages after initial contact can be at the operational speed appropriate to the priority of the call.

  • Patent number: 6301481
Abstract: In a method of selecting a voice channel for making a telephone call via a mobile telephone, an intelligent cellular peripheral (ICP) creates and sends a mobile assisted channel allocation (MACA) list to a digital control channel (DCCH) radio. The DCCH radio sends the MACA list to the mobile telephone for scanning. The ICP assigns an acceptable carrier over interference power ratio (C/1) margin to the mobile's forward voice channel (VCH) received signal strength indicator (RSSI) during call setup. In another feature of the invention, the ICP disqualifies from further consideration the MACA channels whose noise levels are too high, and prioritizes the remaining channels in descending signal strength order.

  • Patent number: 6278722
Abstract: A digital portable telephone is configured without the complex circuitry normally required for its base unit and handset unit to switch between transmit and receive states while frequency hopping in a frequency hopping system. The architecture for this digital portable telephone provides improved performance over that of other digital portable telephones by combining the frequency hopping spread spectrum technique with other spread spectrum techniques in communications between the handset unit and the base unit. Specifically, delta modulation and a redundant transmission of the signal are the other forms of signal spreading that are employed. Such signal spreading advantageously achieves additional processing gain. Another attractive attribute of this architecture is a high level of immunity to interference from other portable telephones also operating in the same frequency hopping band.

Abstract: A system and method in a radio telecommunications network for automatically conveying a Wireless Office System (WOS) frequency set to a mobile station (MS) belonging to the WOS. The network includes a public cell, and a private WOS located within the public cell. A WOS controller sends the WOS frequency set from the WOS to an Equipment Identity Register (EIR) in the network whenever the WOS changes its frequency set. When the MS registers in the public cell in which the WOS is located, a mobile switching center (MSC) serving the public cell notifies an Intelligent Roaming Database (IRDB) of the registration. The IRDB fetches the WOS frequency set from the database, and obtains location information for the MS from a home location register (HLR). The IRDB then sends the WOS frequency set to the MS in an IS-136 R-DATA message.

  • Patent number: 6230022
Abstract: In a transmitting method, it is possible to avoid influences of adjacent-channel interference to perform communication satisfactorily. In the case of performing transmission with a previously set sending power, the transmission is performed with the set sending power with respect to a channel having the largest sending power. With respect to a channel having the next largest sending power, if its adjacent channel is the determined channel, the transmission is performed such that the sending power is corrected on the basis of the sending power of the determined channel. Thereby, it is possible to prevent the signal-to-interference wave power ratio C/I of the channel from deteriorating due to the leakage signal (interference wave) from the adjacent channel. Thus, it is possible to avoid the influences of adjacent-channel interference to thereby perform communication satisfactorily.

  • Patent number: 6122515
Abstract: In a mobile communication system of the present invention, a cordless base unit LBU is connected to a wired subscriber line SL. The base unit LBU detects a radio channel assigned to a cell other than a cell where the base unit LBU is located, among radio channels assigned to the cells of a cellular radio communication system. This radio channel is used as a radio channel for a cordless call. On the other hand, a cellular cordless telephone CCT is provided with a mode switch. When a cordless mode is designated by the mode switch, a radio channel for a cordless call is detected, as with the case of the base unit LBU. At the time of the cordless call, a transmission power level of the cellular cordless telephone CCT is set at a weak level smaller than that for a cellular call.

  • Patent number: 6094576
Abstract: The present invention relates to a connection establishment method and a radio system. When a base station (11) detects a preamble (20) from a subscriber terminal equipment (13), the power adjustment of a closed loop is started for controlling the transmission power of the subscriber terminal equipment (13). Signals (15) of the base station (11) and the subscriber terminal equipment (13) are synchronized and the subscriber terminal equipment (13) sends a randomly selected identifier. The identifier determines a transit channel to which the subscriber terminal equipment (13) suggests to move. The base station (11) may change the suggested transit channel and echo the identifier back to the subscriber terminal equipment (13), and the base station (11) and the subscriber terminal equipment (13) communicate on the transit channel from which they move to a traffic channel. The inventive method accelerates connection establishment.

  • Patent number: 6088338
Abstract: A method and a system to obtain the Primary Receiver Scan Carrier Number (PSCN) starting from the data regarding the multiframe number (MFN) in a personal telephone system realized according to the DECT standard. The following steps are present calculating the minimum common multiple (m.c.m.) between the duration of a multiframe (160 ms) and the period necessary for the complete scanning of the frequencies by a radio fixed part (RFP); dividing this minimum common multiple (m.c.m.) by the duration of a multiframe and taking the quotient to obtain a periodicity value; waiting that the multiframe number (MFN) assumes a whole multiple value of the periodicity calculated as indicated above and beginning and the scanning starting from the known frequency (x) which is common to all fixed radio parts (FRP) to be synchronized.

  • Patent number: 6061569
Abstract: A free channel double checking protocol and system are disclosed. More particularly, the system includes at least one primary radio station and a plurality of secondary radio stations, in which a secondary radio station is matched to a primary radio station and a wireless communication is established via a full duplex communication link. The primary and the secondary stations establish the communication link using a free channel double checking protocol. The free channel doubles checking protocol checks whether a free channel exists between stations. After setting up the communication link, a calling station may confirm to a called station that a reliable communication link has been established.

  • Patent number: 6047188
Abstract: When an interference signals is detected by a base station, the base station issues a report to a switching apparatus. The switching apparatus checks self to see whether it is in a standby mode waiting for a frequency change completion report from another base station which is in the process of changing the control channel frequency. If the switching apparatus is satisfied that the station should be given a new control channel frequency, it issues a frequency change command to the requesting base station, and the base station receiving the command revises the current control channel frequency. In the meantime, all other requests from other stations are denied by the switching apparatus until the requesting base station has successfully completed the process of changing the control channel frequency. The base station acknowledges the completion of frequency change process by sending a frequency change completion report to the switching apparatus.

  • Patent number: 6041240
Abstract: A radio frequency (RF) signal transmitter/receiver system comprises a pair of transmitter/receiver units. A microcomputer-based RF carrier detect system determines when an RF signal is present or absent. The RF carrier detect system is also responsive to noise interference signals at or near its currently-tuned receiving channel. In periods of inactivity, the RF signal receiver monitors its currently-tuned channel and upon detection of noise interference or upon a determination that the currently-tuned channel is occupied, initiates a fast scan operation to identify an unoccupied and relatively interference-free channel, and transmits a command to its paired transmitter/receiver unit causing it to tune to the newly-identified unoccupied channel.

Abstract: A communication channel is dynamically assigned to a mobile station in autonomous decentralized channel assignment in TDMA/TDD communications system. An interference detection criterion is determined depending on a signal strength of a call request signal. It is determined whether interference occurs in a transmitting time slot relative to the interference detection criterion in a selected channel, and further determined whether interference occurs in a receiving time slot relative to a predetermined interference detection criterion in the selected channel. When it is determined that no interference occurs in the selected transmitting and receiving time slots, the selected channel is assigned to the mobile station.
