Abstract: A time slot boundary of an unknown cell in a telecommunications system is identified by correlating a received signal with a known code over a range of delay values for each of one or more time slots, wherein the known code is used by all cells in the telecommunications system. Only for each of the delay values that are not associated with a known cell, correlation values obtained at each of the one or more time slots are accumulated. The time slot boundary is identified by determining which of the delay values is associated with a highest accumulated correlation value. One or more stored monitored delay sets may be used to determine which delay values are not associated with a known cell. The one or more stored monitored delay sets may be filtered using delay information obtained over a period of time.

An A-DPCH signal processing section (106) generates dedicated transmission signals corresponding in number to users multiplexed based on the number of users for each sector input from a control station apparatus and outputs the multiplexed signal to a multiplexing section (105). An HSDPA signal processing section (107) selects a transmission destination sector based on an instruction from a base station control section, generates multiplexed transmission data and outputs the multiplexed data to the multiplexing section (105). Abstract: A system and method reduces cross-beam interference in multi-beam wireless data-transmission system through temporal separation of the multiple beams. A sector of a cell is geographically divided such that a number of beam patterns correspond to a number of user-group areas. For example, the sector can be divided such that four user-group areas are created. The number of groups and beam patterns can be increased or decreased. Forward link transmissions from a base station to a plurality of user terminals are patterned such that transmissions to adjacent user-group areas do not occur during the same time intervals. According to one operation, pilot signal transmissions are suppressed within a beam if no data is transmitted during a corresponding temporal period. According to another operation, temporal guard slots are introduced to avoid inter-cell interference. Further, in some operations, user terminals report to the base station to indicate one or more preferred user-group areas for their inclusion.

IP address servers also prioritize handoff and resident hosts that request an IP address from the IP address server. In particular, IP address servers assign a higher priority to handoff hosts over resident hosts that request an IP address from an IP address server in order to maintain a preestablished handoff host network connection instead of dropping a handoff host connection in favor of a new resident host network connection. In the exemplary embodiment, the base station calculates a Priority Function (PF) for the multiple mobile users. Each PF is a function of the rate request indicator and the projected throughput of a given mobile user. In one embodiment, the predicted throughput is calculated by T′=(T′)&agr;.

Abstract: In a transmission/reception system, adaptive arrays separate signals from users by multiplying radio wave signals received through array antennas by reception signal weight vectors. A reception signal coefficient vector calculator preliminary calculates a reception signal vector of a U wave and produces a table in a memory. If a cross correlation value of the reception signal vector of the U wave and the reception signal vector of a user newly requesting connection is smaller than a prescribed value, a channel can be allocated to the newly requesting user even if the U wave level per se is high.

Abstract: A method and system for optimizing channel access scheduling for multiple wireless computing devices over a wireless network improves channel access efficiency with respect to a primary channel. An access point, or host computer, includes a host transceiver for receiving control information from the wireless computing devices over a low power channel. Upon receiving the control information, the access point applies a scheduling algorithm to schedule channel access for the wireless computing devices to transmit data over the primary communication channel. The wireless computing devices include a low power radio for receiving scheduling information via the low power channel during idle periods. When the scheduling information is received, the wireless computing device activates its primary channel network interface components to communicate data through the primary channel.

Abstract: The satellite communication system comprises a plurality of satellites. The frequency bandwidth of the return link to each satellite is subdivided into a plurality of channels. The method includes steps of finding a total interference in each channel, calculating a predicted total interference from addition of a first user terminal to each channel, determining if the predicted total interference is a minimum, and allocating the first channel to the first user terminal. The predicted total interference is calculated for each channel of the plurality of channels in the return link to each of at least two satellites. The first channel is allocated to the first user terminal if the predicted total interference in the first channel is the minimum value.

Abstract: A system and method in a wireless communication network that efficiently determine when a message is intended for a particular wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU). In accordance with the present invention, each WTRU is configured to receive communications on multiple communication channels. The WTRU receives and processes incoming signals on the multiple communication channels at the physical layer for an indication of which, if any, of the multiple communication channels is intended for the WTRU. If the indication is consistent with an expected indication for that mobile unit, the mobile unit accesses the particular communication channel and processes the information being sent therein.
