The process for preparing the macrostructures involves forming an admixture containing a porous organic ion exchanger and a synthesis mixture capable of forming the porous inorganic material and then converting the synthesis mixture to the porous inorganic material. After formation of the composite material, the porous organic ion exchanger can be removed from the composite material to obtain the macrostructures.

  • Patent number: 6849568
Abstract: A hydrophilic coating can be optionally corrosion resistant and/or microbial resistant for a substrate such as a heat exchanger. The coating is provided by a zeolite layer that can be formed from a synthesis solution comprising a structure directing agent, a base, a silicon source, an aluminum source, and a solvent. In one preferred embodiment, the synthesis solution comprises tetrapropylammonium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide, aluminum oxide, tetraethylorthosilicate, and water. The layer is characterized by a zeolite MFI structure and by a composition having the formula of Mn/m[AlnSi(96-n)O192], or [AlnSi(96-n)O192].4[(CH3CH2CH2)4N—OH] wherein M is a metal ion of valence m+ (e.g., Na+) and 27>n>=0. After formation of the coating, the organic structure directing agent can be left intact inside the zeolite coating to make the coating corrosion resistant.

  • Patent number: 6843978
Abstract: The present invention refers to a microporous material formed by oxygen, silicon, germanium, aluminum, boron, gallium, zirconium and/or titanium in its composition, called TIQ-6, to its catalytic applications in oxidation reactions, and to a method of the TIQ-6 material's preparation based on the synthesis of a gel with a titanium and/or zirconium content, its hydrothermal treatment under controlled conditions, and the treatment of the resulting laminar material with a solution of an organic compound containing a proton accepting group. This swollen material is subjected to a specific treatment to obtain a high external area delaminated solid. A material, METIQ-6, similar to the TIQ-6 material, but also having organic groups anchored on its surface incorporated by a post-synthesis process onto the TIQ-6 material is also claimed.

  • Patent number: 6689195
Abstract: A process is described for the manufacture of crystalline molecular sieve layers with good para-xylene over meta-xylene selectivity's good para-xylene permeances and selectivities. The process requires impregnation of the support prior to hydrothermal synthesis using the seeded method and may be undertaken with pre-impregnation masking. The crystalline molecular sieve layer has a selectivity (&agr;x) for para-xylene over meta-xylene of 2 or greater and a permeance (Qx) for para-xylene of 3.27×10−8 mole(px)/m2.s.Pa(px) or greater measured at a temperature of ≧250° C. and an aromatic hydrocarbon partial pressure of ≧10×103 Pa.

  • Publication number: 20030223933
Abstract: The invention involves a process for production of macrostructures of a microporous material. The process is characterized by the fact that seeds formed in or introduced by ion exchange or adsorption to a porous organic ion exchanger with the desired size, shape and porosity are made to grow and form a continuous structure by further deposition of inorganic material from a synthesis solution under hydrothermal conditions. The organic ion exchanger can be eliminated by chemical destruction or dissolution and, in so doing, leaves behind an inorganic microporous structure with the size and shape of the employed organic ion exchanger.

  • Patent number: 6613708
Abstract: It has been discovered that catalysts may be modified by depositing an agent derivative from an agent such as an organometallic compound upon them. Such a modification gives a catalyst useful in increased selectivity to para-substituted alkyl benzenes, such as para-xylene (PX), through reacting an aromatic compound such as toluene and/or benzene with a methylating agent from hydrogen and carbon monoxide and/or carbon dioxide and/or methanol. Using these selectivated catalysts, para-substituted alkyl benzenes can be recovered in a selectivity of 80% or greater, significantly better than the equilibrium concentration of 24%.
