Abstract: A lubricating oil composition for internal combustion engines giving improved soot dispersancy. That lubricating oil composition has a mixture of borated and carbonated polyalkylene succinimides derived from different molecular weight polyalkylenes. The molecular weight of the polyalkylenes from which the carbonated polyalkylene succinimide is derived is at least 300 greater than the molecular weight of the polyalkylenes from which the borated polyalkylene succinimide is derived.

Abstract: This invention relates to low volatility 5W20, 5W30, 10W40, 10W50, 15W40 or 15W50 multigrade oils for crankcase lubrication of gasoline and diesel engines, the oils comprising:a) basestock having an average basestock neutral number of not less than 105 for a 5W multigrade, not less than 145 for a 10W multigrade and not less than 200 for a 15W multigrade,b) a detergent inhibitor package including an ashless dispersant comprising an oil soluble polymeric hydrocarbon backbone having functional groups in which the hydrocarbon backbone is derived from an ethylene alpha-olefin (EAO) copolymer or alpha-olefin homo- or copolymer having an M.sub.n of from 500 to 7000, and preferably having >30% of terminal vinylidene unsaturation, andc) a viscosity modifier. These multigrade crankcase oils provide better volatility with reduced use or even without the need for expensive light neutral basestocks or non-conventional lubricant basestocks, while at the same time providing adequate control of sludge and varnish.
Abstract: The present invention provides functional fluid compositions containing a major portion of oil of lubricating viscosity and a novel and synergistic combination of an acylated nitrogen-containing compound having an olefinic substituent averaging in carbon number from 20 to 60 and at least one ashless detergent/dispersant.
Abstract: An improved lubricant is provided by combining ester lubricants with alkylated polyaromatic lubricants. This combination provides a lubricant that exhibits the oxidation/varnish control of alkylated naphthenics, while at the same time providing the high temperature stability of the ester-type lubricants. A wide variety of ester lubricants can be used such as polyol esters, dimeracid esters and the like. Preferably, the alkylated aromatic lubricant has a viscosity greater than 25 up to 220 cSt measured at 40.degree. C. Greases can also be formed using this combination.
Abstract: Hydraulic fluid compositions and additive concentrates are described that provide improved wet filtrability. The additive components comprise a mixture formed from at least (a) a zinc dihydrocarbyl dithiophosphate anti-wear agent, (b) a succinimide compound, and optionally (c) one or more alkali metal or alkaline earth metal-containing detergents.
Abstract: A polysuccinimide composition is prepared by reacting a mixture of a copolymer of a first unsaturated acidic reagent and a 1,1-disubstituted olefin; a copolymer of a second unsaturated acidic reagent and a 1-olefin, and a polyamine under reactive conditions; then treating the reaction product with either a cyclic carbonate or a linear mono- or polycarbonate or boron compound under reactive conditions. The two unsaturated acidic reagents can be the same or different. The mixture contains from 0.1 to 1.5 equivalents of polyamine per equivalent of acidic groups of the first and second copolymers.
