Abstract: A chemical delacquering composition, process and system for delacquering substrates such as aluminum scrap in which an aqueous solution containing at least one short-chain organic acid, preferably a mixture of two short-chain organic acids, and optional components such as surfactants, are contacted onto the substrate(s) with application of heat and agitation. The invention embraces the use of one or more organic acids (carboxylic acids) having a total of 2-12 carbons, preferably 3-8 carbons. Concentration of organic acid by weight ranges from about 0.5-8% per at least one organic acid, or preferably 2-4% for each organic acid component assuming two organic acid components are present. In the preferred embodiment of the invention, about 2-4% each of citric and lactic acids are present in the delacquering composition. Processing temperatures range from 160-212° F., preferably 180-212° F., and most preferably 185-212° F.
Abstract: Coating remover compositions comprising an alkylene carbonate, hydrogen peroxide, water, a first alcohol, a second alcohol, and, optionally, pine oil that exhibit low toxicity. Further, a method of removing a coating from a surface. Abstract: A method of preparing an environmentally safe composition free of chlorinated solvents which is non-flammable, fully biodegradable, and low odor and the use of such composition for the removal of various coatings from metal substrates. Abstract: An absorbent wipe is provided impregnated with a non-toxic, oil-based cleaning solvent comprising the polar oil d-limonene, a non-polar mineral oil, and a hydrophilic surfactant. The resulting article provides an effective wipe for removing oil-based soils such as oil, grease, tar, ink, and similar contaminants. The article provides a non-toxic wipe which is safe for use on skin, has low volatility, and provides a solvent which self-emulsifies in water. Accordingly, the solvent residue may be easily rinsed and removed from cleaned surfaces. Tetrahydrofurfuryl alkyl ethers, alone, or in combination with other ingredients, such as N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, provide compositions with improved paint stripping properties.
Abstract: Non-corrosive cleaning compositions that are aqueous based and useful for removing photoresist, plasma etch and CMP residues from a substrate. One preferred cleaning composition comprises: (i) a hydroxylamine or a hydroxylamine salt compound;(ii) at least one fluorine-containing compound; and (iii) water. Another cleaning composition comprises: (i) a compound selected from the group consisting of: an amine, a quatenary ammonium hydroxide, and ammonium hydroxide; (ii) at least one fluorine-containing compound; and (iii) water.

Abstract: Method for applying an aqueous benzyl alcohol paint strippling composition to the surface of a high strength steel substrate or of an assembly containing high strength steel components, such as steel fasteners on the surface of aircraft assemblies, while minimizing the effect of hydrogen-induced embrittlement, hydrogen-induced cracking and corrosion normally caused by aqueous benzyl alcohol. The invention comprises applying a liquid silane to the surface of the steel substrate or components immediately before and/or as an ingredient of a novel aqueous benzyl alcohol composition of the present invention which contains from about 1% to 10% by volume of the liquid silane.
Abstract: The present invention provides a process for efficient recovery of dyestuffs from dye-based optical disks, and to provide a solvent used for recovery. Disclosed herein is a process for recovering dyestuffs from dye-based optical disks by treating the dyestuff-containing layer with a solvent containing a singlet oxygen quencher. Disclosed also herein is a solvent for dyestuff recovery which contains a singlet oxygen quencher.
