Abstract: The compositions are anhydride-hardened epoxy resins which are filled with calcium-magnesium or calcium carbonate particles having a coating of a multibasic organic or inorganic acid bonded to the surfaces of the particles. Castings or moldings made therefrom, particularly electrical parts for SF.sub.6 technology, exhibit improved mechanical properties such as bending strength and impact strength.
Abstract: The invention relates to a filled, resin composition and a method for the manufacture therefor. The composition is a matrix of an epoxy resin, a carbonate-containing filler, particularly calcium-magnesium carbonate or calcium carbonate, an anhydride hardener and an adhesive at 0.1 to 3.0 percent by weight, relative to the weight of the filler. The adhesive is a multibasic organic acid, an organic hydroxy acid such as malic acid or an amino acid. In the process, the adhesive can first be added to the hardener or to the filler containing resin before hardener is added.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the manufacture of transparent casting resins. According to the invention, a liquid acid anhydride (b) is admixed to a premixture (a), which is liquid at room temperture, of zinc octoate, a low-molecular weight acid ester and, optionally, an organic phosphite, and this mixture of (a) and (b) is added, preferably at temperatures .ltoreq.50.degree. C., to liquid aromatic diglycidyl ethers. Diphenyldecyl phosphite is particularly well suited as an organic phosphite. The casting resins obtained are transparent and find use particularly for casting-in and encapsulating opto-electronic components such as light-emitting diodes (and diode displays), photo diodes and photo transistors.

Abstract: Asbestiform crystalline calcium M phosphate, where M is sodium or lithium, having a length to average diameter ratio of at least 5:1, can be prepared by forming a melt of a source of oxygen, calcium, phosphorus and M having a mole ratio of about 15 percent to about 30 percent M.sub.2 O, about 48 percent to about 60 percent P.sub.2 O.sub.5 and about 20 percent to about 37 percent CaO, cooling the melt within the range of about 500.degree. C. to about 750.degree. C. for a sufficient time to permit blocks of calcium M phosphate to form, and fiberizing the blocks into the asbestiform crystals. Such asbestiform crystalline calcium M phosphates are useful to prepare composites of organic polymeric materials.

Abstract: Novel compositions of matter comprising the reaction product of beta-diketones and epoxy resins blended with monomeric or polymeric phosphonium salts are hereby provided. The beta-diketones useful herein are those which enolize in amounts that render them sufficiently acidic and reactable with epoxy groups of the resin. The novel reaction products can be dispersed in water to form pretreatment agents and they can be formulated with curing agents to form coating compositions. Ferrous metals treated with the compositions of this invention exhibit excellent corrosion resistance properties.
