Abstract: A nonwoven fabric, particularly composed by long-stock synthetic resin yarns such as polyethylene and polypropylene is provided at one or both surfaces thereof with an ink-setting layer formed by coating, drying and curing a resin composition containing some of acrylic resins, synthetic rubbers and polyester resins. The ink-setting layer is excellent in the transfer property and fixing ability to an oil ink which is ordinarily used for offset printing, and prevents the nonwoven fabric from being swelled or transformed by a petroleum high-boiling-point solvent contained in the oil ink. Preferably, a low-temperature cross-linking agent is incorporated with the resin composition of the ink-setting layer so as to complete cross-linking of the resin composition at a low temperature at which heat shrinkage or heat damage of the nonwoven fabric will not be caused, in a shortened period of time.
Abstract: A process for preparing solid polymer blends and composites of controlled porosity in microemulsions containing both hydrophilic and hydrophobic phases. The microemulsions are prepared with surfactant systems that may include a cosolvent as a part thereof, together with a hydrophilic monomer, or monomers, dissolved in the hydrophilic phase of the microemulsion, and a hydrophobic monomer, or monomers, dissolved in the hydrophobic phase. Polymerization of the monomers thus present is carried out to provide highly uniform dispersions of the resulting polymers in each other. The invention allows for the control of the morphology of the blends, the improvement in compatability of otherwise incompatible polymers, and improvements in the processability of the polymers due to enhanced thermal and mechanical properties.
Abstract: Macrocyclic poly(alkylene dicarboxylate) oligomers are prepared in high yield by the reaction of a dicarboxylic acid chloride such as terephthaloyl chloride with at least one bis(hydroxyalkyl) ester such as bis(4-hydroxybutyl) terephthalate, in the presence of a highly unhindered amine or a mixture thereof with at least one other tertiary amine such as triethylamine, in a substantially inert organic solvent such as methylene, chlorobenzene or a mixture thereof. Abstract: Ingredients or precursor for synthesizing or formulating urethane polymers and prepolymers are dried by admixing therewith an enamine which reacts with the water. While some ingredients, such as polyols and solvents, can be individually dried in this manner, the enamine preferably is added after the polyol(s), solvent(s) and additives have been blended. When prepolymers having a relatively low free isocyanate content are to be synthesized or admixed with other ingredients, a sufficient amount of an isocyanate, preferably the same one used for synthesis, is added to react with amines liberated by the enamine-water reaction to produce an inert urea derivative.

Abstract: An improved coating for heat resistant substrates is an aqueous dispersion of polymers prepared by polymerization of olefinically unsaturated monomers in an aqueous medium in the presence of radical formers and emulsifiers, wherein the emulsifiers are polyisocyanate addition products having a molecular weight below 20,000 and containing from 5 to 1000 milliequivalents of anionic structures corresponding to the following formula--NH--CO--N.sup..crclbar. --C.tbd.Nincorporated therein per 100 g of solids content.

Abstract: Aqueous polymer dispersions useful for coating substrates are prepared by polymerization of olefinically unsaturated monomers in aqueous medium in the presence of radical formers and hydrophilically modified, urethane-group-containing emulsifiers having an average molecular weight below 30,000, wherein the urethane-group-containing emulsifiers are oligourethanes having a branched molecular structure which(i) are produced from organic polyisocyanates and organic compounds containing isocyanate-reactive groups with the reactants containing hydrophilic groups or groups convertible into hydrophilic groups and which are monofunctional or difunctional to isocyanate addition reaction, with the molar ratio of monofunctional hydrophilic components to the corresponding difunctional components being at least 2:1, and which(ii) have a content of chemically incorporated hydrophilic groups sufficient to impart the oligourethane solubility or dispersibility in water, with the proviso that, on a statistical average, at least
