Abstract: An ionomer resin composition according to the present invention is obtained by bringing a functional group-containing olefin copolymer (A) having a structural unit derived from a cyclic olefin in the range of 10 percent by mol or more and having a group derived from an acid and/or a derivative thereof as the functional group into contact with a metal compound (B). A shaped article having well-balanced two excellent properties of the optical characteristics and the moisture permeability can be formed by using the ionomer resin composition.

Abstract: The invention provides a process for increasing the melt flow index of a polyolefin, the process comprising using a melt mixing device to melt mix the polyolefin in contact with oxygen and a transition metal catalyst having a redox potential ranging from 0 to 2 volts, wherein oxygen is introduced to the melt mixing device, and wherein the transition metal catalyst in contact with the polyolefin forms at least part of a component of the melt mixing device.

Abstract: The invention provides a golf ball material composed of an ionomeric resin composition obtained by melt-blending under applied heat one or more compounds selected from among UV/EB-curable materials with, in the presence of a peroxide, a non-ionomeric thermoplastic resin and an ionomeric resin; or of an ionomeric resin composition obtained by using, instead of the ionomeric resin, an acid-containing polymer base of the ionomeric resin and subjecting the acid-containing polymer composition similarly prepared by melt-blending under applied heat to an acid-neutralizing reaction with a metal ionic species. Methods for preparing such a material, and golf balls which include as a component therein a molding made of the golf ball material are also provided. The golf ball material has a good thermal stability, flow and processability, and can thus be used to obtain high-performance golf balls endowed with an excellent abrasion resistance, scuff resistance, durability and flexibility without a loss of rebound.

Abstract: Disclosed are processes for preparing an epoxidized and/or hydroxylated ?-olefin/diene copolymer materials such as ethylene/dicyclopentadiene. These processes comprise contacting in a reaction medium a) a copolymeric precursor component with b) a hydrogen peroxide oxidizing agent, in the presence of alkyl-trioxorhenium-based catalyst, under certain reaction conditions. The copolymeric precursor component comprises copolymers of ?-olefins and dienes with these copolymers containing at least one double bond in each diene-derived comonomer. The reaction medium is maintained under reaction conditions which promote formation of oxirane rings at, and/or diol formation across, the sites of the diene-derived co-monomer double bonds in the copolymeric precursor material. Epoxidation and hydroxylation generally increases the glass transition temperature, Tg, of these copolymers and imbues polarity which imparts oil resistance.

Abstract: The invention encompasses novel amphiphilic block copolymers comprising a hydrophobic block and a hydrophilic block wherein the hydrophilic block is formed from diallyldialkylammonium salt and the hydrophobic block comprises a polyolefin. Furthermore, convenient methods of preparing the amphiphilic block copolymers are disclosed. The amphiphilic block copolymer may be used to increase the wettability and printability of a plastic surface. Abstract: The present invention relates to a multifunctional reusable catalyst and to a process for the preparation thereof on a single matrix of the support to perform multicomponent reaction in a single pot. The multifunctional catalysts of the invention are useful for the synthesis of chiral vicinal diols by tandem and/or simultaneous reactions involving Heck coupling, N-oxidation and AD reaction of olefins in presence of cinchona alkaloid compounds both as an native one and immobilized one in the said matrix support. This invention also relates to a process for preparing vicinal diols by asymmetric dihydroxylation of olefins in presence of cinchona alkaloid compounds employing reusable multifunctional catalysts as heterogeneous catalysts in place of soluble osmium catalysts.
