Abstract: A family of covalent kinetic stabilizer compounds that selectively and covalently react with the prominent plasma protein transthyretin in preference to more than 4000 other human plasma proteins is disclosed. A contemplated compound corresponds in structure to Formula I, below, where the various substituents are defined within, and reacts chemoselectively with one or two of four Lys-15 ?-amino groups within the transthyretin tetramer. The crystal structure confirms the binding orientation of the compound substructure and the conjugating amide bond. A covalent transthyretin kinetic stabilizer exhibits superior amyloid inhibition potency, compared to a non-covalent counterpart, and inhibits cytotoxicity associated with amyloidogenesis.

  • Patent number: 7847120
Abstract: The present invention provides novel compositions of allosteric hemoglobin modifiers which are substantially free of impurities, specifically polymeric impurities. In one embodiment, the novel compositions contain an allosteric hemoglobin modifier compound and less than 100 ppm of the polymeric impurities generated during the preparation of this compound. Included in the present invention are novel methods for preparing allosteric hemoglobin modifiers that are substantially free of polymeric impurities. Also included in the present invention are improved methods for the purification of the product formed by the method of this invention. The novel methods of purification comprise extracting the crude composition with a water immiscible or partially immiscible solvent such as methylisobutyl ketone (MIBK) to lower amounts of impurities, specifically polymeric impurities.

  • Publication number: 20100210872
Abstract: A method for making a hindered phenolic antioxidant based on Octadecyl 3-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propionate uses a methanol solution containing alkali metal methoxide as a catalyst solution, wherein the catalyst solution is filtered with a filter device with a filter pore diameter of less than 50 ?m to remove insoluble matters therefrom before used in a transesterification process where methyl 3-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propionate and 1-Octadecanol are taken as reactants to obtain a crude product of Octadecyl 3-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propionate having high conversion rate and low color, and the crude product further undergoes a purification process for crystallization, filtering and drying to obtain a product of Octadecyl 3-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propionate having high purity and low color.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method for selectively placing carbon nanotubes on a substrate surface by using functionalized carbon nanotubes having an organic compound that is covalently bonded to such carbon nanotubes. The organic compound comprises at least two functional groups, the first of which is capable of forming covalent bonds with carbon nanotubes, and the second of which is capable of selectively bonding metal oxides. Such functionalized carbon nanotubes are contacted with a substrate surface that has at least one portion containing a metal oxide. The second functional group of the organic compound selectively bonds to the metal oxide, so as to selectively place the functionalized carbon nanotubes on the at least one portion of the substrate surface that comprises the metal oxide.
