  • Patent number: 4372118
Abstract: A liquid cable transfer device is provided for transmitting input forces and/or displacements to corresponding output forces and/or displacements. The transfer device includes a section of tubing adapted to accommodate liquid under pressure, and terminal units attached to opposite ends of the tubing. Each unit includes a piston and a biasing element acting against the piston whereby the pistons of both units coact to maintain a certain minimum liquid pressure within the tubing. • Patent number: 4339920
Abstract: A method and apparatus which includes locating a compressible chamber filled with a non-compressible fluid confined in a closed circuit in the path of moving traffic so that the weight of the traffic passing over the chamber will affect a displacement of the incompressible fluid to create a fluid flow through the circuit. The circuit includes unidirectional flow control valves for directing the flow of displaced fluid through a fluid motor connected in circuit with the compressible chamber. Disposed in the circuit is a rectifier for rectifying the intermittent displacement of the fluid into a generally uniform fluid flow to affect the drive of the fluid motor with the output of the fluid motor being translated into useful work.

  • Patent number: 4276994
Abstract: Strong, light weight master cylinders for hydraulic braking systems are produced by incasing a section of steel tubing within a diecasting of metal such as an alloy of magnesium or aluminum. Master cylinders can thus be produced by diecasting the metal in situ around a seamless tube having a smooth accurately oversized bore so that it incases the exterior surface and extends over one end thereof and through predetermined shrinkage produces a final uniform bore diameter and operating surface. Tooling requirements are minimal, with little if any machining being needed following the diecasting operation. Unit production cost is thus lower than that of castings made with permanent molds. Light weight diecastable metals can thus be used in combination with strong but relatively thin steel tubing to provide durable master cylinders that are lighter, simpler and less expensive to make than cast iron cylinders. This composite construction can be used in power cylinders for numerous light weight applications.

  • Patent number: 4027481
Abstract: A fluid pressure transducer device including first fluid pressure responsive means and second fluid pressure responsive means which together define a sealed volume of fluid. The first fluid pressure responsive means is exposed to first and second input fluid pressures and responsive to variations in one or both thereof to vary the volume of the sealed volume as a function of the first input fluid pressure modified by the pressure ratio of the second input fluid pressure to the first input fluid pressure. The second fluid pressure responsive means is responsive to the changes in the sealed volume of fluid and produces an output force signal in response thereto. There may be provided a variable volume chamber containing a temperature responsive element vented to the sealed volume of fluid to cause an increase or decrease in the sealed volume to compensate for temperature variations of the sealed volume of fluid.

  • Patent number: 4005639
Abstract: A servomotor having a metal backing plate for a diaphragm which separates the interior of a front shell and a rear shell into a front chamber and rear chamber. The metal backing plate is attached to a hub which extends through the rear shell. The hub has an axial bore with a first passageway which is connected to the front chamber and a second passageway which is connected to the rear chamber. A control means is retained in the axial bore by the metal backing plate being attached to the hub. When the control means is actuated, fluid under pressure enters the rear chamber and creates a pressure differential. The pressure differential develops a force across the diaphragm which is directly transmitted through the backing plate to an output push rod.

  • Patent number: 4004423
Abstract: The pistons, valves and failure warning switch mechanism contained within the bore of a master cylinder are preassembled in a container in kit form. The container provides for correct orientation of the parts in the master cylinder bore so that the failure warning switch actuating mechanism is properly aligned with the failure warning switch. The container is a tube of suitable material having a bore with the various internal parts of the master cylinder preassembled in it. Folding locating arms are attached near the forward end of the tube and normally held in a folded position by a cap and plug which closes the forward tube end. When the kit is ready to be used, the cap and plug are removed, the arms are unfolded, and the arm ends are aligned so that they extend through the bolt holes in the mounting ears of the master cylinder body. The tube bore is in alignment with the rear end of the master cylinder bore.

  • Patent number: 3973771
Abstract: A passageway forming a nozzle supplies a positive pressure impulse, derived from an oscillatory pressure source, to blades of a turbine mounted in a chamber. The passageway conducts fluid in a direction from the source toward blades of the turbine during a first portion of the oscillatory cycle while the pressure of the source exceeds the pressure of the fluid proximate the turbine. The fluid is directed by the nozzle in a concentrated stream toward the blades. During a second portion of the cycle while the source pressure is less than the fluid pressure proximate the turbine, fluid diffusely flows in the chamber away from proximate the turbine toward the source. The diffusely drawn fluid produces a negative pressure impulse on the turbine. The negative pressure impulse is substantially weaker than the positive impulse, whereby a net positive torque is exerted on the turbine to continuously drive the turbine in a positive rotational direction.

  • Patent number: 3942325
Abstract: A throttle actuator for accelerating and decelerating the speed of an internal combustion engine in response to work demand where the engine drives the pump of a hydraulic system. In one aspect, the invention is directed to a throttle actuating piston and rod arrangement for operating the throttle of the engine and a pulsation intensifier for sensitively controlling the piston's movement. The pulsation intensifier is connected in a pressure line from the pump and comprises a free spring biased floating piston of configuration such that there is a differential in area across the piston for fluid pressure intensification purposes. The intensifier piston in one embodiment also has an axial passage therethrough and an orifice communicating with the throttle actuating piston. Both pistons are slidably mounted in housings which have springs to normally position the pistons in directions to cause the engine to return to idle speed when there is no work demand.
