Rotation Blocking Patents (Class 70/226)
  • Patent number: 5823025
Abstract: A lock for a motorcycle has a generally U-shaped construction. The open end of the U is slipped over the brake rotor of the front wheel or the sprocket of the rear wheel of the motorcycle. A bolt then extends across the open end of the U-12 shape to hold the device in place. This bolt is engaged by a spring loaded pin so as to hold it in position. Rotation of the wheels is then prevented by contact between the lock and the brake calipers on the front wheel or the chain or sprocket on the rear wheel. In order to release the bolt, a cam and a spring biasing the pin in the opposite direction are provided so that rotation of the cam allows the pin to be withdrawn from the bolt. The lock includes a lock-out mechanism which prevents the motorcycle from being started when the lock is in place because the lock-out mechanism retains the ignition key. In addition to the lock, a single loop cable can be provided for attachment about a stationary object and received within a channel in the lock.

First and second members having single hooks telescope relative to, respectively, first and second ends of the central member for selectively engaging, respectively, (i) the rim of the steering wheel in position about the spoke and (ii) the rim of the steering wheel opposite to the spoke.

  • Patent number: 5619873
Abstract: A portable housing device for protectively enclosing the steering wheel and driver's side airbag of an automotive vehicle to prevent theft. The device includes a plurality of sections sharing a common axis member. One section is fixedly connected to the axis member, which serves as a pivot point around which each remaining section may be rotated. An integral keyless locking mechanism is included to automatically secure the device once it has been installed on a steering wheel by fixedly connecting each rotatable section to the axis member. The size of the device is substantially reduced for storage purposes by selectively varying the dimensions of each section and by locating the axis member so that each rotatable section is pivotable in a concentric arc around it to a single nested position including the fixedly connected section. Certain embodiments include an interference bar member, an electronic alarm system, or both, to enhance the anti-theft capability of the device.

Abstract: A vehicle detention device provides a pair of stopper blocks, where one of the stopper blocks moves on a guide shaft relative to the other stopper block secured to the guide shaft. A locking device is provided in order to prevent the movable stopper block from shifting away from a tire so that both the stationary and movable stopper blocks remain in contact with the tire at both sides of ground contact point to prevent rotation of the wheel with the tire mounted thereon. Using a pair of chains, the wheel is secured and placed under detention with the stopper blocks closely held in contact with the tire. Since the mechanical components necessary for releasing the tire and wheel are fully concealed by a key-actuated cover unit, no one can readily remove the vehicle detention device from the restrained vehicle without operating a proper key, thus securely detaining the vehicle.
