Abstract: Systems and methods for using multi-view learning to leverage highly informative, high-cost, psychophysiological data collected in a laboratory setting, to improve post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) screening in the field, where only less-informative, low-cost, speech data are available. Partial least squares (PLS) methods can be used to learn a bilinear factor model, which projects speech and EEG responses onto latent spaces, where the covariance between the projections is maximized. The systems and methods use a speech representation based on a combination of audio and language descriptors extracted from spoken responses to open-ended questions.

  • Patent number: 9384957
Abstract: In conducting multiple repetitions of MS/MS analysis on the same test sample for which a precursor ion whose m/z is known (m/z=M) has been established, MS/MS analysis is conducted under a dissociation condition in which CID is less prone to occur in part of the analysis. When an MS/MS spectrum is created by summing up spectral data thus obtained, a known precursor ion is observed at m/z=M without exception. Thus, a peak corresponding to the precursor ion is detected on the MS/MS spectrum, a mass deviation between an actual measured value and theoretical value M of m/z at the peak is determined, and a spectrum is created by correcting other peaks for mass shifts based on the mass deviation. This makes it possible to mass-calibrate the MS/MS spectrum in substantially the same manner as an internal standard method and improve mass accuracy over conventional methods.

Abstract: In a Phase Plane Correlation (PPC) process, using adaptive frequency domain filtering to aid in generating candidate motion vectors. It is determined when it is beneficial to pre-filter an input image, prior to a PPC process. This results in more reliable and consistent PPC surfaces than otherwise. The filter is applied in the frequency domain where time-domain convolution becomes a much more efficient component-wise multiplication with an in-place window. An energy measure of the high-frequency content in the computed Fourier surfaces gauges the degree of high frequency content in the image. First, the Fourier transform of the two images is computed. Then, the high-frequency content is estimated from the Fourier surfaces. A window function is computed as a function of the high-frequency energy. The window is applied to the Fourier surfaces. Then, the modified Fourier surfaces are fed into the PPC process.

Abstract: The apparatus employs the remote field eddy-current (RFEC) inspection technique to electromagnetically measure physical parameters of a metallic pipe. RFEC devices inserted into and displaced along a cylindrical pipes may be used to measure the ratio of pipe thickness to electromagnetic skin-depth and thus allow for the non-invasive detection of flaws or metal loss. Typically these RFEC thickness measurements exhibit a so-called double-indication of flaws, an undesired artifact due to a double-peaked geometrical sensitivity function of the device. The method describes a means by which this double indication artifact may be removed by an appropriate processing of RFEC measurements performed by an apparatus specifically designed for this purpose. The invention is particularly well designed for applications in the oilfield industry.

Abstract: A method and apparatus provides high-accuracy measurements of an electrical parameter across a broad range of parameter input values. In one embodiment, an intelligent electronic device (IED), e.g., a digital electrical power and energy meter, with a plurality of independently-adjustable gain factors measures a parameter, and calculates and stores calibration factors associated with known values of the measured parameter. The IED or meter applies the stored calibration factors when measuring unknown values of the measured parameter, to improve the accuracy of the measurement.

Abstract: The concept underlying the invention is the development of a generic method for the detection and identification of gases in airplane interior spaces and an associated device, which is small and manageable, has a simple design, and allows the immediate and simultaneous detection and identification of the gases to be examined. This is achieved in that the supply air of the airplane interior space (20) is fed to a measuring device (1) and the measurement results of the measuring device (1) are analyzed by means of mathematical methods. Such methods and the associated devices for the detection and identification of gases in airplane interior spaces are used in order to spot and verify gases, particularly odors and explosive gases and/or gases harmful to people's health.

Abstract: A pair of manipulators are caused to take a plurality of attitudes in a state where distal ends of the manipulators are coupled to each other, coordinates of joints between links at each attitude change are acquired on the basis of detection signals, at each attitude change, of rotary encoders provided for servomotors that drive the links of the manipulators, and a position and attitude of an installation point of a slave robot with reference to an installation point of a master robot are calculated on the basis of the joint coordinates acquired at the corresponding attitude change in a forward kinematics manner. A deviation vector for each attitude change between actual measured values of the installation point of the slave robot and the calculated values of the installation point of the slave robot is calculated, and robot constants of both manipulators are identified from the deviation vector.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a method to calibrate logging measurements from a logging tool for which one or more attributes vary over the course of logging. A logging tool is provided and a pre-logging calibration function for the logging tool is obtained. Logging measurements are made using the logging tool, and a post-logging calibration function for the logging tool is obtained. A variable calibration function using the pre-logging calibration function and the post-logging calibration function is determined, and the logging measurements are calibrated using the variable calibration function. The variable calibration function may be discrete or continuous and linear or non-linear. A non-linear calibration function may be based on measurements of one or more of the varying attributes of the logging tool. A discrete calibration function may have three or more calibration factors.

The therapeutic laser is characterized by an evaluation device that acts on the control device and is used for calculating a degree of quality B(t) from the optoacoustic signals detected by the detection device for individual laser pulses applied to a predetermined laser spot and determining a fit function f(t) at a predetermined point in time ?t1, the fit function f(t) approximating the mean curve of B(t) for 0?t??t1. The intensity and/or the irradiation time of the therapeutic laser is defined by the parameters for the predetermined laser spot, the parameters being determined for the fit function f(t).

Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods for managing testing unit latency and measurement uncertainty in computer-based stimulus-response tests. An estimated latency LE and an associated measurement uncertainty are determined as characteristics of a particular testing unit. LE is used as offset for all measurements taken on the testing unit, and results treated subject to the characteristic measurement uncertainty when determining test-taker performance. Estimated actual response times RTE are processed subject to a confidence value determined from the uncertainty. Uncertainty propagation determines test metrics involving a plurality of estimated actual response times RTE, where cumulative uncertainty is reported as a confidence rating in the metric. Overall test results (e.g., pass vs. fail) based on one or more metrics are also reported according to a confidence rating associated with the cumulative uncertainty propagated through the relevant metrics.
