Abstract: To create a rating of a tangible or non-tangible object, raters grade the object against another object with respect to an attribute. Multiple such grades are collected in a computing system. These grades are combined to create a single numeric score, which serves as the rating, for the object or object-attribute pair. This method of rating an object is superior to obtaining absolute numeric scores about a particular object or object-attribute pair because this method accurately reflects how an object ranks with respect to other objects.

Abstract: A method, system and computer program product for creating a subject annotator. A user input query is accepted and specifies a target subject to be annotated. Based on the query, a search for similar words to the target subject is conducted and creates a set of related terms. The set of related terms are used to search for and identify further related terms. Both the related terms and further related terms are added to a master word list. The master word list is used to annotate the target subject.

Abstract: A system and method for facilitating comparing or juxtaposing characteristics or attributes of human resources of an enterprise. The example method includes displaying one or more representations of one or more human resources and providing various user options. A first user option enables a user to add a representation of a human resource to a shortlist. A second user option enables a user to initiate a comparison operation based one or more user selected human resources chosen from the shortlist. In a more specific embodiment, the comparison operation results in display of a comparison view that juxtaposes various attributes of human resources being compared. Example attributes include numbers of keyword matches appearing in human resource profiles, availability scores, locations, billing rates, qualification scores, and so on.

Abstract: A method, non-transitory computer readable medium and apparatus for searching for an application are disclosed. For example, the method receives information regarding a context of a user, receives a search request for the application, finds the application that has context information that matches the context of the user, and provides a search result in response to the search request that includes the application that has the context information that matches the context of the user.

Abstract: A range k-nearest neighbor search query of a database is processed by first defining an inner rectangle bounded within a circle around a center point specified by the range k-nearest neighbor search query. Thereafter, a distance to the center point is calculated for each point within the inner rectangle. Query results are returned if k or more points are within the inner rectangle. Otherwise, at least one additional query is executed. Related apparatus, systems, techniques and articles are also described.

Abstract: A method and system for identifying results of a query that includes a type predicate is provided. A search system maintains a collection of facts that includes a triple for each fact and a type table that maps entities of the facts to their corresponding type. The search system uses the type table to speed up the process of identifying the search results when the query includes a non-type query triple and a type query triple. A type query triple is a triple that has a type predicate, rather than a non-type predicate. To execute a query that contains a non-type query triple and a type query triple, the search system identifies the triples of the collection that match the non-type query triple. The search system then uses the type table to determine which of the identified triples match the type query triple for inclusion in the search results.

Abstract: Methods for performance evaluation of admission control policies (ACPs) include storing a simulation model including an admission queue and a finite capacity region (FCR), the admission queue admitting queries to the FCR based on an active ACP, the FCR modeling a resource constraint, generating traces, each trace being generated based on processing a single query using the database system, the single query being associated with a query type of a plurality of query types, for each query type, determining a query fork size and a service time from an associated trace to provide a plurality of tuples, each tuple being associated with a query type and including the fork size and the service time associated with the query type, parameterizing the simulation model based on the plurality of tuples, and for each of the ACPs, generating a performance parameter by applying a workload to the simulation model.

Abstract: Topical affinity badges in information retrieval is described, for example, where graphical elements are presented together with ranked search results from a search engine, to indicate a degree of association between an author of a document and a topic. In various embodiments, a measure of an author's affinity to a topic is predicted using a machine learning system that takes as input author features derived from documents of the author. In various examples topical affinity scores or labels are used to generate badges and/or to index documents at an index of a search engine. For example, badges may be presented with ranked search results, in pop up displays or in other ways. In examples author features relating to any of recency, frequency and presentation of an author's documents are generated, where presentation features may relate to biographical information such as experience, qualifications, and previous documents.

Abstract: A cloud computing infrastructure administration system can track use of cloud computing resources by customer, hardware utilization, and geographical location in a unified manner, the cloud may be administered much more efficiently. A cloud computing visualization tool can use the tracked data to provide multiple visualization options to aid in cloud computing management. For instance, usage can be tracked and information displayed on a per-customer, per-machine, per-location, and/or other basis. Thus, administrators can, for example view a particular customer's use of resources regardless of location but also view a location's allocation of resources regardless of customer. The tool can be configured to restrict access by login, and thus customers or other parties other than administrators may view data.

Abstract: A method includes receiving a database query for a first database and determining whether a second database contains data responsive to the database query, wherein the second database comprises a graph database. The method also includes retrieving responsive data from a memory device associated with the second database if it is determined that the second database contains data responsive to the database query. The method further includes responding to the database query by providing the responsive data.

Abstract: Disclosed are systems for and methods of categorizing wines, recommending sipping wines, pairing wines with foods, and arranging wines in a systematic display. In some embodiments, the disclosed systems and methods evaluate and incorporate individual taste profiles. Defining a set of wine flavor characteristics facilitates comparisons and categorization. Recommendations are facilitated by substantially correlating the individual taste profiles to the wine flavor characteristics. Likewise, wine-food pairings are facilitated by substantially correlating the known food flavors to the wine flavor characteristics. Computer-implemented embodiments allow authorized user input and consumer access via wireless devices.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a computer-implemented method, system and computer readable medium for providing a scalable bio-informatics sequence search on cloud. The method comprises the steps of partitioning a genome data into a plurality of datasets and storing the plurality of data sets in a database. Receiving at least one sequence search request input and searching for a genome sequence in the database corresponding to the search request input and scaling of the sequence search based on the sequence search request input.

Abstract: Graphical user interfaces for searching music. A computer provides a window of a first webpage providing a user interface to search music, comprising search tools including filter tools and a keyword search tool. In response to a user search request for music via the filter tools and/or the keyword search tool, the computer provides, within the window, music search results. When a search result is selected by the user, the selected search result expands within the window. The expanded search result includes one or more of: a grab button, a download button, a share button, a license button, an audio player showing an audio waveform of the selected music search result, a description of the selected music search result, artwork associated with the search result, and an explore-more button, that when selected provides additional music related to the selected music based on acoustic similarity.

Abstract: Content providers define a set of scenarios that are addressed by their datasets. The scenarios include user-friendly, human-readable attributes such as a title, description, and visualization. The scenarios may also include a technical description that can be used to generate sample queries that can then be executed against the dataset. The technical description may be machine translated to arbitrary data querying protocols while maintaining the semantic meaning of the query. A user interface may be provided to allow users to intuitively generate the scenarios. In one embodiment, an extensible framework provides for the creation of protocol-specific translation plug-ins that are used to generate implementations of the scenario suitable for selected protocols. Known market-relevant translator plug-ins may also be implemented.

Abstract: A system and a method of querying a remote service without revealing a private document to the remote service are provided. The method includes receiving a signature of a user's private document, and querying an intermediate database with the signature of the private document to generate an intermediate result set comprising intermediate database documents, based on a computation of similarity of the signatures of the intermediate database documents to the signature of the private document. The remote service is queried, based on the intermediate result set and a final result set is received from the remote service based on the query, which can be output to the user or further processed.

Abstract: A method and system for displaying comments associated with a query. The method includes receiving the query provided by a user, retrieving a set of comment clusters from a comment cluster database, selecting engaging comments from each comment cluster included in the set of comment clusters, aggregating the engaging comments that are obtained from each comment cluster, identifying a plurality of independent comments included in a list of aggregated comments and displaying a list of engaging comments to the user. The system includes an electronic device, a communication interface and a memory. The system also includes a processor to receive the query, retrieve a set of comment clusters, select engaging comments from each comment cluster, aggregate the engaging comments, identify a plurality of independent comments and display a list of engaging comments to the user.

Abstract: A travel advisory generation system is provided that enables generation of travel advisories based upon one or more selected parameters (e.g., location, origin, destination, date, date range, travel provider, class of service, etc.). These travel advisories may be further incorporated into travel search results, providing relevant advisory information in conjunction, e.g., concurrently or in-line, with travel options. The advisories may be further customized in order to display desired notifications and not display undesired notifications to selected users of the travel advisory generation system (e.g., system operators, travel service providers (including, but not limited to, travel agents and travel managers of an organization), and travelers).

Abstract: An event detection machine may access time-stamped activity indicators from a database, and the event detection machine may determine that a first burst of activity indicators is repetitive of a second burst of activity indicators. Such a determination may be based on the first and second bursts each including a keyword that is shared in common between the first and second bursts. The event detection machine may determine that these bursts of activity indicators is representative of a repetitive event that is characterized by the keyword shared in common among the bursts of activity indicators. Based on such a determination, the event detection machine may generate or modify a data structure that indicates a time period as encompassing the repetitive event that corresponds to the keyword shared in common between the first and second bursts of activity indicators.

Abstract: A computer implemented method and system for rendering time sensitive responses to a query associated with a target location is provided. A query-response management server receives a query containing information on a target location from a first client application on a requesting user's requesting device via a network. The query-response management server dynamically retrieves location information and activity information of each of multiple responding users via the network and identifies one or more of the responding users proximal to the target location based on the location information and the activity information. The query-response management server transmits the query to a second client application on a responding device of each of the identified responding users via the network.

Abstract: Systems and methods for information retrieval are provided that permit users and/or processing entities to access and define synthetic data, synthetic objects, and/or synthetic groupings of data in one or more collections of information. In one embodiment, data access on an information retrieval system can occur through an interpretation layer which interprets any synthetic data against data physically stored in the collection. Synthetic data can define virtual data objects, virtual data elements, virtual data attributes, virtual data groupings, and/or data entities that can be interpreted against data that may be stored physically in the collection of information. The system and methods for information retrieval can return results from the one or more collections of information based not only on the data stored, but also on the virtual data generated from interpretation of the stored data.

Abstract: Invoice documents are automatically matched against receipts as part of an automated workflow that executes workflow process steps on a given invoice. A workflow engine is used to determine whether a pending invoice document needs to be matched against a receipt. This can be done using explicit matching information, or using implicit matching. Invoice documents that cannot be matched can be surfaced for user attention. A rules evaluator may also be employed to evaluate received documents.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a distributed database system supporting flexible configuration of data clusters is disclosed. The system includes a cluster manager, an index, and a dataset distributed over one or more database clusters. Where the nodes of the clusters may report ownership of a particular range, the index contains an alternate range. The cluster manager receives requests to access a range of data within database and queries the index to determine the appropriate nodes and/or clusters with which to connect. The cluster manager then directs the requestor to connect to the specified nodes and/or clusters.

Abstract: A method for automatically extracting and organizing information by a processing device from a plurality of data sources is provided. A natural language processing information extraction pipeline that includes an automatic detection of entities is applied to the data sources. Information about detected entities is identified by analyzing products of the natural language processing pipeline. Identified information is grouped into equivalence classes containing equivalent information. At least one displayable representation of the equivalence classes is created. An order in which the at least one displayable representation is displayed is computed. A combined representation of the equivalence classes that respects the order in which the displayable representation is displayed is produced.

Abstract: A system and method for simplifying data access between tiers in a multi-tier system is disclosed. In an embodiment, a method is provided for receiving a request for service from a browser at a generic data access object (GDAO) layer; generating, by use of a data processor, a single, shared, generic data transfer object (GDTO) at the GDAO layer; calling through to a database tier, the database tier providing database metadata; and using the database metadata to include result data in the GDTO and return the GDTO in response to the request.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for creating a read-access log. A business application may send a request for data to a backend system using a communication protocol. At the backend system, the request may be observed and a determination made as to whether the request for data is log-relevant. The determination may be based on a log configuration record associated with the business application making the request. A record may be written in a read-access log when it is determined that the request for data is log-relevant. The log record may include information used to map entity information from the retrieved data to a semantic entity.

Abstract: A system and method for correlating brand identifiers with corresponding online presence are disclosed. A particular embodiment includes providing, by use of a data processor, a user interface to enable a user to specify a brand of interest; producing search terms associated with the brand of interest; using the search terms in a search query to obtain related search results collected from a plurality of content sources; filtering the search results to obtain information indicative of a plurality of profile sources; using the information indicative of a plurality of profile sources to obtain related profiles collected from a plurality of profile sources; filtering the related profiles to obtain a set of matching profiles; and reporting the brand of interest and links to the corresponding matching profiles to the user.

Abstract: A user can input a search query. By assessing terms in the search query, the search query can be categorized (e.g., as a navigational, functional or browse query). The categorization can depend on an analysis of terms in the search query, a preliminary search, and/or empirical data tied to previous and similar searches. For example, searches estimated to be directed to finding a specific app can be categorized as navigational, based on capitalized letters, quotation marks, a short number of words in the query, and a tight distribution of apps typically downloaded subsequent to viewing results from the search. Based on the categorization, a search strategy can be identified. Search strategies can differentially weight and/or use text-based strategies.

Abstract: Persisted data queries are leveraged to generate complex event processing rules for application to a real-time data stream. The method generates a persisted data query based on defined criteria; validates the persisted data query using stored persisted data; and converts the validated persisted data query to a CEP rule. The method may utilize common database querying tools such as XQuery to generate the persisted data query. The persisted data query is executed against historical unprocessed event data stored as persisted data. The results of the persisted data query are analyzed to determine if the persisted data query produces the desired results. The persisted data query is converted to a CEP rule when the desired results are produced.

Abstract: A method and system for providing a connected sales associate service application via a mobile device. The application provides for an integrated platform upon which various tools for providing support to a sales associate are built. The application includes a database of information regarding the operation of a retail establishment, and a database of reference materials. The application provides a user interface for allowing several sales associate to access a central server for the retail establishment on multiple mobile devices. The user interface displays information regarding sales and inventory information and reference materials for products, such as user's manuals, which enable the sales associate to answer questions posed by customers. A sales associate can thus search for and find all store products which meet a customer's specifications.

Abstract: The processing of data and inventory, particularly with regards to packages having an issue affecting their delivery, is disclosed. Among other things, embodiments of the present disclosure help enable the quick, efficient, and accurate resolution to such issues. In various embodiments, a method performed by a computer program operating on a computer system is disclosed. The method comprises: receiving, by the computer system, an identifier for a package; in response to receiving the identifier, automatically retrieving, by the computer system, a database entry associated with the package from a database in communication with the computer system; determining, by the computer system, based on the database entry, that the package was refused by an intended recipient; and automatically modifying, by the computer system, a status field of the database entry to indicate the package was refused.

Abstract: A virtual directory server (VDS) processes requests based on a first hierarchical model while using a backend server operating based on a relational model. In one embodiment, classes representing the tables and columns in the relation model are generated according to a second hierarchical model (class hierarchy). On receiving a directory request for values' corresponding to attributes in the first hierarchical model, tables and columns corresponding to the requested attributes are identified. A query according to the relational model is constructed employing the generated classes (of the second hierarchical model), the query including the identified tables and columns. The query is then executed in the backend server to retrieve the values corresponding to the attributes, and the values are then sent (according to the first hierarchical model) as a reply to the directory request.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide systems and methods for managing catalog information that can include onsite as well as externally hosted product or service information. Generally speaking, customers can create externally hosted catalogs for each supplier, and set up high level keywords so that a link to the externally hosted catalog information can be returned if requesters execute a search using these keywords. The source of where the product or service comes from does not result in issues for the requesters when trying to locate an item. Rather, the enterprise procurement application can guide the requesters to the items they are looking for regardless of the source.

Abstract: The effectiveness of targeted content delivery can be directly linked to the number and type of known user characteristics. A way of improving targeted content delivery can be to infer unknown user characteristics from known information. The present technology utilizes the type of and frequency of a user's visits to one or more predefined location zones to infer unknown user characteristics. The type of location zone and the frequency of visits to the location zone can be combined with other known user characteristics, such as declared user characteristics, to infer one or more characteristics. Additionally, the user's visits to one or more predefined location zones can be used assign a user to one or more targeted segments and to prioritize the segments assigned to the user. Based on the declared and inferred user characteristics and the segment assignments, targeted content can be selected for delivery to the user.

Abstract: A method for refining a dictionary for information extraction, the operations including: inputting a set of extracted results from execution of an extractor comprising the dictionary on a collection of text, wherein the extracted results are labeled as correct results or incorrect results; processing the extracted results using an algorithm configured to set a score of the extractor above a score threshold, wherein the score threshold balances a precision and a recall of the extractor; and outputting a set of candidate dictionary entries corresponding to a full set of dictionary entries, wherein the candidate dictionary entries are candidates to be removed from the dictionary based on the extracted results.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable storage media for gifting a personalized album. A system is described that includes generating a personalized album from a request and subsequently gifting the personalized album to another party. The personalized album can include playback attributes stored in a file associated with the album or alternatively in metadata of the media items to be gifted. The playback attributes can limit playback of the album to a particular playback sequence or configure playback to reveal the names of media items as they are presented to the user. The personalized album can be accepted, rejected, or re-gifted by the recipient.

Abstract: A central data warehouse includes embedded data marts. These embedded data marts, referred to as workspaces, are assigned centrally manage data by reference only but rely directly on the centrally managed data and the underlying infrastructure. Workspaces still allow departments in an enterprise to perform certain actions on their own (like adding new data and building new models) without having to instantiate copies of the centrally managed data in a locally managed data mart.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a system, method and computer program products for information retrieval from multiple documents by proximity searching for search queries. A method includes generating an index for the multiple documents, wherein the index includes words in snippets in the documents. An input search query is processed against the index by searching query terms over the snippets to introduce term proximity information implicitly in the information retrieval. Results of multiple sentence level search operations are combined as output.

Abstract: Systems and methods for identifying which video segment is being displayed on a screen of a television system. The video segment is identified by deriving data from the television signals, the derived data being indicative of the video segment being displayed on the screen. This feature can be used to extract a viewer's reaction (such as changing the channel) to a specific video segment (such as an advertisement) and reporting the extracted information as metrics. The systems and methods may further provide contextually targeted content to the television system. The contextual targeting is based on not only identification of the video segment being displayed, but also a determination concerning the playing time or offset time of the particular portion of the video segment being currently displayed.

Abstract: A method, performed by a computer device, may include receiving personal data from a user device associated with personas, where each of the personas corresponds to at least one classification of requesters, associating the received personal data with at least one of the personas, and identifying any of the classifications that correspond to the personas associated with received personal data. The method may further include receiving, from a data requester, a query including a request for the personal data; associating the data requester with a classification; and comparing the classification associated with the data requester to the classifications associated with personal data. The method may further include sending, to the data requester, a message containing the personal data in response to the classification of the data requester corresponding to the classifications of the personal data.
