Abstract: In general, techniques are described for an RDF (Resource Description Framework) database system which can scale to huge size for realistic data sets of practical interest. In some examples, a database system includes a Resource Description Framework (RDF) database that stores a plurality of data chunks to one or more storage drives, wherein each of the plurality of data chunks includes a plurality of triples of the RDF database. The database system also includes a working memory, a query interface that receives a query for the RDF database, a SPARQL engine that identifies a subset of the data chunks relevant to the query, and an index interface that includes one or more bulk loaders that load the subset of the data chunks to the working memory. The SPARQL engine executes the query only against triples included within the loaded subset of the data chunks to obtain a query result.

Abstract: Data stores that store content units and annotations regarding the content units derived through a semantic interpretation of the content units. When annotations are stored in a database, different parts of an annotation may be stored in different tables of the database. For example, one or more tables of the database may store all semantic classifications for the annotations, while one or more other tables may store content of all of the annotations. A user may be permitted to provide natural language queries for searching the database. A natural language query may be semantically interpreted to determine one or more annotations from the query. The semantic interpretation of the query may be performed using the same annotation model used to determine annotations stored in the database. Semantic classifications and format of the annotations for a query may be the same as one or more annotations stored in the database.

Abstract: Disclosed are methods for inferring interests of a user based on declared interests of the user. Text for which a user has expressed interest, e.g. “liked” is evaluated to identify at least one principal concept. A principal article for the principal concept is located in a taxonomy and the link structure of the taxonomy analyzed to identify candidate articles related to the principal article. The candidate articles are scored according to a plurality of metrics and these scored are weighted and combined for a final score. Candidate articles are selected for the score and recommendations are generated and recommendations generated based on the concepts of the selected candidate articles.

Abstract: A vehicle navigation device comprises a map data base storing map data and a processing unit. The map data base includes first attributes indicative of the presence of express lanes and second attributes assigned to lanes to indicate which lanes of a road segment are express lanes. The processing unit is coupled to the map data base and is configured to perform a route search based at least on the first attribute and to control outputting of route guidance information via a user interface based at least on the second attribute.

Abstract: Methods and data structures are provided for allowing data mining with improved efficiency. During processing of a usage log (or multiple logs) for an activity, such as a usage logfile of network search activity, a common fact table is generated. The common fact table allows a plurality of auxiliary data structures to be formed from the common fact table. These auxiliary data structures are designed to allow users to submit queries against the contents of the data structure in order to investigate the data. The efficiency of access of the common fact table is improved by allowing users to access auxiliary data structures other than the auxiliary data structures that are associated with a user. Optionally, the common fact table and/or the auxiliary data structures can include dimension values that correspond to both pre-identified dimension values as well as dimension values that are identified during processing of the activity logfiles.

Abstract: Techniques are described for determining relationships between user activities and determining search results and content recommendations based on the relationships. A plays-related-to-searches application may determine a relationship score between plays of a media title and searches of a query by determining a distance between a projection of the search onto the space of the users and a projection of plays of the media title onto the space of the users. A plays-after-searches application may determine a score for plays of the streaming media title given the search by multiplying a number of times plays of the media title occur after the query is entered by the number of times any play occurs, and dividing by a product of the number of times plays of the media title occur after any query is entered and the number of times plays of any media title occur after the query is entered.

Abstract: A database back end system includes a monitoring server operable to poll a first database for a first query running on the first database and add the first query to a query list in a second database, and a reporting server operable to normalize the first query, analyze the second database to find a second query in the query list, wherein the second query is found based upon the normalized first query, and report the second query to a user, wherein the reporting is based upon the analyzing of the second database to find the second query.

Abstract: Techniques are described for determining relationships between user activities and determining search results and content recommendations based on the relationships. A plays-related-to-searches application may determine a relationship score between plays of a media title and searches of a query by determining a distance between a projection of the search onto the space of the users and a projection of plays of the media title onto the space of the users. A plays-after-searches application may determine a score for plays of the streaming media title given the search by multiplying a number of times plays of the media title occur after the query is entered by the number of times any play occurs, and dividing by a product of the number of times plays of the media title occur after any query is entered and the number of times plays of any media title occur after the query is entered.

The processing of online interactions permits tracking users, identifying influential content and users, identifying the type of interactions that users prefer with respect to specific content, and so forth. Abstract: Obtaining alumni data from a database includes storing standardized alumni data in alumni data profiles, receiving a selected data entity representing an institution, searching the alumni data profiles to locate the profiles of alumni of the institution, determining a plurality of ranked sets of data by searching the profiles of alumni of the institution, and displaying each of the elements of the plurality of ranked sets of data respectively as elements in a plurality of facets. The elements in the plurality of facets may be displayed visually as a graphics display. A further operation may include receiving a selected data entity representing an element of a first facet and, responsive to receiving the selected data entity, displaying, at each of the facets of the plurality of facets other than the first facet, the elements of the facet ranked in order of the number of alumni in each element of the facet.

Abstract: A method executed at least in part in a computing device for providing cloud based skip tracing is provided. The method includes providing a cloud based service enabling data interchange with a plurality of vendors providing skip tracing services and receiving at the cloud based service and from a user a file of records for skip tracing. The method further includes applying a waterfall process to the records using the computing device wherein the waterfall process includes at least a subset of the plurality of vendors and returning to the user a results file containing skip tracing results corresponding to the records. The method may further include generating a waterfall score card and sending the waterfall score card to the user, the waterfall score card summarizing performance of the subset of the plurality of vendors.

Abstract: Architecture that augments a search result entry caption with keywords related to topics currently being shared and discussed in other social network information sources. This can provide a much better idea of the content of the website or webpage. The architecture obtains a link from updates of social topics of social network information sources (e.g., social networks for people places professionals, etc.), extracts title content of a document title associated with the link, compares the title content to document text for similarity to create non-duplicative content, creates keywords related to popular social topics from the non-duplicative content, and then augments a search result entry of a search result page with the keywords of the popular social topics.

Abstract: A method and system for enhancing and incentivizing user engagement with indications of acknowledgement at a social network is described. An acknowledgement application receives indications of acknowledgement associated with at least one information item from a first user and at least one second user at a social network. The acknowledgement application aggregates and processes the indications of acknowledgement. The acknowledgement application provides at least one result from the processing in response to hovering over an option for the indications of acknowledgement associated with the at least one information item. The acknowledgement application rewards the first user at least one numerical point based on indications of acknowledgement associated with the at least one specific topic and provides at least one badge of achievement to the first user on accumulating at least one threshold of a total number of points.

Abstract: Systems and methods for searching domain names and owner information associated with the domain names in a web-based Whols search tool. Systems including one or more databases and one or more text indexes may store data including the domain names and owner information, and index text-searchable portions of the data. A search request may be received from a user with user preferences such as a selection of multiple or all top level domains. Search results may be ranked by relevancy, and may include the domain name with associated owner information.

Abstract: A filtering method and system. The method includes receiving by a computer processor an audio/video data file and filtering data. The computer processor analyzes the filtering data with respect to the audio/video data file and retrieves specified audio/video data portions comprising data objects within frames of the audio/video data file. The computer processor removes gaps existing in the audio/video data file and receives tags comprising instructions for presenting video data of the audio/video data file, audio data of the audio/video data file, and the specified audio/video data portions. The computer processor stores the video data in a first layer of a multimedia file, the audio data in a second layer of the multimedia file, and the specified audio/video data portions in additional layers of the multimedia file. Each of the first layer, the second layer, and the additional layers comprises a tag layer comprising the tags.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for determining whether a search query with an observed number of occurrences in a set of search queries is a local search query. In accordance with one implementation, a method is provided that comprises determining an expected number of occurrences of a search query and comparing the expected number of occurrences to a threshold. Further, the method includes determining whether the search query is a local search query based, at least in part, on the comparison.

Abstract: The present invention extends to methods, systems, and computer program products for searching digital receipts at a mobile device. A customer mobile device receives and stores one or more digital receipts. The one or more digital receipts correspond to transactions conducted with a merchant. A user can select search criteria for searching stored digital receipts. The search criteria can be applied to stored digital receipts. Any stored digital receipts that satisfy the search criteria can be returned for display. In some embodiments, search criteria are selected to search for digital receipts associated with a specified payment method, such as, for example, cash, check, credit card, debit card, gift card, etc. In other embodiments, search criteria are selected to search for digital receipts having a purchase date within a specified purchase date range.

Abstract: A node container is constructed with multiple binary tree views. A processing device creates a primary view binary tree within the node container based on a primary key. A set of records that match fields of the primary key is chained to the primary view. The processing device also creates one or more alternate views within the node container to allow access to the same set of records via one or more alternate keys, which are subsets of the fields of the primary key. The chain of records is extracted from the node container when matched to a subsequent query search.

Abstract: A container database may contain multiple database dictionaries, each database dictionary defining a pluggable database. When database sessions are established on a container DBMS, each database session is given access to a pluggable database by establishing the respective database dictionary of the pluggable database as the database dictionary for that database session. Database commands issued through database session can only access the database objects defined in the database dictionary established for the database session.

Abstract: A method is provided for constructing a cache for storing results of previously evaluated queries in a binary tree based on a cache key. The cache is searched, by a processing device, for a node representing a set of previously evaluated queries that match a given record using an instance of the cache key. In response to finding a representative node that matches the instance of the cache key, the method performs processing associated with the set of previously evaluated queries. In response to finding no representative nodes, the method creates a new node using the instance of the cache key. The method of the invention then updates the cache by classifying the compatibility of newly registered queries with the cache key and evaluating whether compatible newly registered queries match the record.

Abstract: Disclosed are methods for returning to a user an answer to the question “what is <string>.” Concepts and classes to which the concepts belong are determined from a corpus, such as taxonomy. The concepts are mapped to categories according to the structure of the taxonomy. Homonyms for words are collected and scored according to likeliness of use. Concept vectors are assembled for the identified concepts based on articles in the corpus and social media usage. Words are evaluated for generic-ness and a generic score is associated therewith. In responding to a query, the generic-ness of the terms of the query is evaluated and additional context solicited if the terms are generic. Candidate homonym concepts for a string in the query are selected according to context vectors for the homonym concepts. One or more homonym concepts are selected and the one or more categories corresponding to these concepts are returned.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention may enable a communication device to search for multiple results from a database by using a single search query. The communication device may include a display screen, a processor, and a memory coupled to the processor. The memory may include a database and an instruction set. The database may store contact information of one or more entities. Further, the instruction set may include instructions executable by the processor to scan a query received from a user to recognize special characters and wild cards in the query. Further, the instructions may divide the query into multiple sub-queries based on the use of the special characters in the query. Furthermore, the instructions may execute and display results of the sub-queries in a user friendly manner.

Abstract: Aspects of the present invention provide a tool for hash-based indexing. In an embodiment, a ranked dataset having a plurality of data items is obtained. Every data item in the ranked dataset has a ranking with respect to every other data item in the ranked dataset. A ranking triplet matrix is created based on the ranked dataset. The ranking triplet matrix has a set of ranking triplets, each of which indicates the relative ranking for a pair of the data items in the ranked dataset. This ranking triplet can be merged with a hash table obtained using a standard hash function and the data items can be indexed based on the results.

Abstract: Techniques are provided for generating a “dimensional zonemap” that allows a database server to avoid scanning disk blocks of a fact table based on filter predicates in a query that qualify one or more dimension tables. The zonemap divides the fact table into sets of contiguous disk blocks referred to as “zones”. For each zone, a minimum value and a maximum value for each of one or more “zoned” columns of the dimension tables is determined and maintained in the zonemap. For a query that contains a filter predicate on a zoned column, the predicate value can be compared to the minimum value and maximum value maintained for a zone for that zoned column to determine whether a scan of the disk blocks of the zone can be skipped.

Abstract: Among other things, one or more techniques and/or systems are provided for displaying a related content view within a search interface. That is, a search interface, such as a search application, may provide search results that are relevant to a query submitted through the search interface. For example, a main search engine results view comprising one or more search results of the query may be presented within the search interface. Responsive to a semantic zoom operation (e.g., a touch gesture), the search interface may be transitioned from the main search engine results view to a related content view comprising related content that corresponds to the query and/or a (e.g., supplemental) search result for the query. In this way, the user may explore supplemental content, such as query suggestions, images, entity descriptions/profiles, videos, and/or other content, that may be related to a query submitted by the user.

Abstract: Various embodiments provide a method and apparatus for obtaining a representative sample set of venues (i.e., places) within a geographic region in a location based network using a low cost and efficient sampling and estimating algorithm. In particular, a dynamic random region sampling algorithm randomly selects a target location within a geographic region and then determines a sub-region containing the target location within the geographic region based on venue density prediction. Venue density prediction is based on a weighted average of venue densities of two or more comparable locations within the geographic region.

Abstract: A method for determining access to a data table store includes determining static properties of data sources during query design, loading the static properties into an unavailability table, at query execution evaluating dynamic properties of the data sources and updating the unavailability table, evaluating a preference expression by a table dispatcher component using session context information from the availability table, determining if a preferred table is available at query execution, and if available indicating to access the preferred table, else applying unavailability rules to obtain repair actions. The preference expression including a user-defined preference between an original table and its replica and user-defined repair actions, where a selection is made at query execution between an original data table and a replicated data table based on the unavailability rules. A non-transitory computer readable medium and a system for implementing the method are also disclosed.

Abstract: Methods and systems are described herein for providing a media guidance application that identifies users accessing the same media asset, determines which users desire to communicate with each other, and provides an asset-integrated notification to each of the users desiring to communicate, facilitating communication between the users. For example, other users with a desire to communicate with an initial user that are accessing the same media asset as the initial user may be indicated by inserting a media element representative of the other users directly into the media asset watched by an initial user.

The basic information and an additional POI information search request can be transmitted from the information managing unit to the communication interface to search for the additional POI information in the information providers and transmit the additional POI information back to the information managing unit. The additional POI information may be filtered and organized before presenting to the user.

Abstract: A system and method is disclosed for measuring social media. A social media measurement tool is configured to receive or otherwise determine a keyword for evaluation. The tool identifies directly relevant content on one or more social media platforms, where the directly relevant content includes the received keyword. The tool then identifies relevant downstream content on the one or more social media platforms by identifying content that is relevant to the directly relevant content. The system uses the identified content to calculate respective values for one or more metrics for the keyword.

A non-contextual data object is associated with a context object to define a synthetic context-based object, where the non-contextual data object ambiguously relates to multiple subject-matters, and where the context object provides a context that identifies a specific subject-matter, from the multiple subject-matters, of the non-contextual data object. The synthetic context-based object is then associated with at least one specific data store, which includes data that is associated with data contained in the non-contextual data object and the context object. Abstract: According to one embodiment of the present invention, a level of a first hierarchy and a second hierarchy of data attributes is determined where the first hierarchy and the second hierarchy share the determined level and each subordinate hierarchical level. Abstract: Aspects of the present invention provide a tool for extracting schema from a spreadsheet. In an embodiment, a set of data that is stored in an uncataloged tabular format, such as a spreadsheet, is retrieved. The structure of the retrieved set of data is surveyed to determine the dataset schema thereof. Then, data elements within the dataset schema are analyzed to obtain information regarding the data elements. Based on dataset schema and the element information, an interface can be constructed that allows remote access to the set of data.

Abstract: Embodiments of a repair correlation system are described, wherein the repair correlation system identifies related vehicle repairs based on key parts (or the most important parts) of an automotive sub-system. The repair correlation system can use a database or other data repository of matching parts to identify related automotive sub-systems (e.g., engine, transmission, etc.) by matching key parts for sub-systems across different brands and models. For example, the repair correlation system can determine that repairs for a first engine with key parts A, B, and C are applicable to a second engine with the same key parts. Thus, an engine in a Honda car and an engine in a Ford car could be identified by the system as having co-applicable repair data based at least partly on the key parts matching, even though the engines are used by different brands and models.
