Abstract: Example embodiments described herein provide systems and methods for transmitting data packets between a protocol sender and a protocol receiver in a cloud environment, having either the protocol sender or the protocol receiver residing within a virtualized host. A protocol acceleration module may observe the data packets transmitted along the data path between the protocol sender and the protocol receiver using protocol stack configuration information of the protocol sender. The protocol acceleration module may override the protocol stack configuration information with policy-based protocol stack configuration information such that data packets transmitted from the protocol acceleration module to the protocol receiver use the policy-based protocol stack configuration information. For various embodiments, the protocol stack configuration information of the protocol sender is not modified.

  • Patent number: 9300440
Abstract: A combination of repeaters and relays is used to improve the data throughput for user equipment (“UE”) near the cell edge in a LTE network. Amplify-and-forward repeaters and decode-and-forward relays enhance the down-link and up-link, respectively. Relay assistance on the up-link occurs when the evolved Node B (“eNB”) requests a retransmission (HARQ) from the UE at which point the UE and relay transmit simultaneously in a cooperative fashion. The quality of the up-link signal received by the eNB is improved due to a favorable channel through the relay. An analysis shows that relay assistance improves the throughput for a cell-edge user when the average delay per data transport block is allowed to increase.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for transceiving scheduling signals in a multi-carrier wireless communication system, comprising a step of transmitting, via a predetermined downlink component carrier, a PDSCH transmission scheduling signal on one or more downlink component carriers and/or a PUSCH transmission scheduling signal on one or more uplink component carriers; and a step of transceiving the PDSCH and/or the PUSCH in accordance with the scheduling signals. The scheduling signals can be defined to the same size in a PDCCH transmission region of said predetermined downlink component carrier in the event different MIMO transmission modes are applied to the PDSCH transmission or the PUSCH transmission, or in the event said one or more downlink component carriers or said one or more uplink component carriers have different bandwidths.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a management device may determine whether user traffic in a computer network is suffering from insufficient network resources. In response to user traffic suffering from insufficient network resources, the device may then trigger the computer network to reduce control plane traffic. In another embodiment, a network device may transmit control plane traffic into a computer network at a first rate. In response to receiving instructions to reduce control plane traffic due to user traffic suffering from insufficient network resources, the device may then transmit control plane traffic into the computer network at a reduced second rate.

  • Patent number: 9209934
Abstract: A block-request streaming system provides for improvements in the user experience and bandwidth efficiency of such systems, typically using an ingestion system that generates data in a form to be served by a conventional file server (HTTP, FTP, or the like), wherein the ingestion system intakes content and prepares it as files or data elements to be served by the file server, which might or might not include a cache. A client device can be adapted to take advantage of the ingestion process as well as including improvements that make for a better presentation independent of the ingestion process. In the block-request streaming system, the an ingestion system generates data according to erasure codes and the client device, through various selection and timing of requests for media data and redundant data, can efficiently decode media to provide for presentations.

  • Patent number: 9195694
Abstract: A distributed database management system provides a central database resident on a server that contains database objects. Objects, e.g., program guide data, to be replicated are gathered together into distribution packages called “slices,” that are transmitted to client devices. A slice is a subset of the central database which is relevant to clients within a specific domain, such as a geographic region, or under the footprint of a satellite transmitter. The viewer selects television programs and Web content from displayed sections of the program guide data which are recorded to a storage device. The program guide data are used to determine when to start and end recordings. Client devices periodically connect to the server using a phone line and upload information of interest which is combined with information uploaded from other client devices for statistical, operational, or viewing models.
