Patent number: 8930786Abstract: Error correcting codes (ECCs) have been proposed to be used in high frequency memory devices to detect errors in signals transmitted between a memory controller and a memory device. For high frequency memory devices, ECCs have delay characteristics of greater than one clock cycle. When the delay exceeds one clock cycle but is much less than two clock cycles, an entire second clock cycle must be added. By calculating and comparing the ECC value in a static logic circuit and a dynamic logic circuit, the logic delay is substantially reduced. In addition, the ECC value may be calculated and compared using two sets of static logic gates, where the second static logic gate is clocked by a clock signal that is delayed relative to the clock signal of the first set of logic gates.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 2013Date of Patent: January 6, 2015Assignee: Micron Technology, Inc.Inventor: James B. Patent number: 8918692Abstract: A combination of repeaters and relays is used to improve the data throughput for user equipment (“UE”) near the cell edge in a LTE network. Amplify-and-forward repeaters and decode-and-forward relays enhance the down-link and up-link, respectively. Relay assistance on the up-link occurs when the evolved Node B (“eNB”) requests a retransmission (HARQ) from the UE at which point the UE and relay transmit simultaneously in a cooperative fashion. The quality of the up-link signal received by the eNB is improved due to a favorable channel through the relay. An analysis shows that relay assistance improves the throughput for a cell-edge user when the average delay per data transport block is allowed to increase.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 2011Date of Patent: December 23, 2014Assignee: Powerwave Technologies S.a.r.l.Inventor: Richard Neil Braithwaite

Patent number: 8910006Abstract: One embodiment relates to a method of processing data in a transmitter. In the method, a timestamp is generated for a data unit. The data unit is stored in a memory unit in the transmitter. The data unit is transmitted from the transmitter to a receiver. The transmitter waits up to a predetermined time measured with respect to the timestamp to receive an acknowledgement from the receiver. Based on whether the acknowledgement is received within the predetermined time, the transmitter selectively retransmits the data unit to the receiver. Other methods and systems are also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: August 14, 2009Date of Patent: December 9, 2014Assignee: Infineon Technologies AGInventor: Bernd Heise

Patent number: 8902804Abstract: A method of broadcasting a file to terminals in a wireless network, such as a mobile radio network. The file is divided into a set of blocks which are to be transmitted to the terminals. An interval for response by the terminals is calculated depending on the number of active terminals which require the blocks. Messages containing the blocks and the response interval are then broadcast over the network. Responses indicating missing or imperfect blocks are received from the terminals. These steps are repeated until all of the terminals have received a complete set of blocks or have become inactive. Shorter response intervals are calculated as the number of active terminals is reduced.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 2011Date of Patent: December 2, 2014Assignee: Tait LimitedInventor: Andrew Francis Dachs

Patent number: 8868998Abstract: Packet communication apparatus connects plural LANs to each other, in termination of a WAN that conducts data communication using handshake communication protocol. Apparatus buffers data packets between the LANs, and transfers, as a proxy, response packets and data packets to a terminal device. The apparatus stops transmission of data packets belonging to an arbitrary packet flow when the reception of the response packets belonging to the packet flow from the WAN is ceased for a network outage detection time or more set, while transmitting data packets belonging to the arbitrary packet flow. The apparatus retransmits a first data packet whose corresponding response packet is not received, belonging to the packet flow immediately after the data packet transmission stops, and retransmits all data packets whose corresponding response packets are not received, belonging to the packet flow, when receiving the response packets from the WAN.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 2012Date of Patent: October 21, 2014Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Michitaka Okuno, Takeki Yazaki

Patent number: 8837519Abstract: Disclosed are mobile communication devices and methods of a mobile communication device that determines that no response has been received within a predetermined period of time from a network to a transmission of an encoded data block in accordance with a commanded MCS. The device then determines an alternative MCS capable of coping better with variations in the radio environment with minimal damage or alteration than the commanded MCS and preemptively transmits the encoded data block in accordance with this more robust alternative MCS. In this way the mobile communication device does not continue failed attempts to transmit data in accordance with the commanded MCS. After the device receives notice of successful transmission of the encoded data block with the alternative MCS, the device will resume the use of the commanded MCS to transmit subsequent encoded data blocks.Type: GrantFiled: February 11, 2009Date of Patent: September 16, 2014Assignee: Motorola Mobility LLCInventors: Olivier Marco, Matthieu Baglin

Patent number: 8832515Abstract: A method includes sending a sequence number acknowledgement (SN-ACK) from a first device to a second device. The SN-ACK identifies a last consecutively correctly received data unit and includes a retry bit indicating whether at least one data unit of the plurality of data units was received by the first device subsequent to the last consecutively correctly received data unit. The method also includes, when the retry bit has a first value, sending a block acknowledgement (BA) after sending the SN-ACK. The BA includes a bitmap, where each particular bit of the bitmap indicates whether a corresponding data unit was correctly received. When the retry bit has a second value and one or more of the plurality of data units were incorrectly received by the first device, the first device receives a retransmission of one or more data units without sending the BA to the second device.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 2012Date of Patent: September 9, 2014Assignee: Qualcomm IncorporatedInventors: Alfred Asterjadhi, Simone Merlin, Maarten Menzo Wentink, Santosh P.
