Abstract: Techniques involving failure management of storage devices are described. One representative technique includes encoding data to enable it to be stored in a storage block that includes at least one storage failure. The data is encoded such that it traverses the storage failures when stored in the storage block. When it is determined that a storage access request has requested the data stored in a storage block having such failures, the data is decoded to restore it to its original form.

Specifically, a customer or the like can select a disaster recovery provider from a pool (at least one) of disaster recovery providers using a customer interface to a DR portal. Similarly, using the interface and DR portal, the customer can then submit a request for DR to be performed for a set (at least one) of applications. The customer will then also submit (via the interface and DR portal) DR information. This information can include, among other things, a set of application images, a set of application files, a set of recovery requirements, a designation of one or more specific (e.g., application) components for which DR is desired, dump file(s), database file(s), etc. Using the DR information, the DR provider will then generate and conduct a set of DR tests and provide the results to the customer via the DR portal and interface.

The microprocessor includes an enhanced load store unit (LSU) and an enhanced instruction decoder. The enhanced LSU receives a plurality of out-of-order value addresses, and sends a resync signal to the enhanced instruction decoder when an execution error associated with a particular load instruction occurs. The enhanced instruction decoder stores a specific address associated with the particular load instruction, and increments a counter value that indicates how many times the resync signal was sent by the resync predictor. When the counter value reaches a predetermined threshold, subsequent load instructions from the specific address are executed in order (non-speculatively).

Abstract: An approach to detecting processor failure in a multi-processor environment is disclosed. The approach may include having each CPU in the system responsible for monitoring another CPU in the system. A CPUn reads a timestampn+1 created by CPUn+1 which CPUn is monitoring from a shared memory location. The CPUn reads its own timestampn and compares the two timestamps to calculate a delta value. If the delta value is above a threshold, the CPUn determines that CPUn+1 has failed and initiates error handling for the CPUs in the system. One CPU may be designated a master CPU, and be responsible for beginning the error handling process. In such embodiments, the CPUn may initiate error handling by notifying the master CPU that CPUn+1 has failed. If CPUn+1 is the master CPU, the CPUn may take additional steps to initiate error handling, and may broadcast a non-critical interrupt to all CPUs, triggering error handling.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for handling errors during device bootup from a non-volatile memory (“NVM”). A NVM interface of an electronic device can be configured to detect errors and maintain an error log in volatile memory while the device is being booted up. Once device bootup has completed, a NVM driver of the electronic device can be configured to correct the detected errors using the error log. For example, the electronic device can move data to more reliable blocks and/or retire blocks that are close to failure, thereby improving overall device reliability.

Abstract: A method and system dynamically configures faults during software testing. During runtime of a service platform, a computer system hosting the service platform receives a request from a test program to register a list of controllers. Each of the registered controllers controls the generation of a different fault. The test program triggers the execution of a service to be tested on the service platform. During execution of the service, a predefined condition is encountered. A fault is generated if one of the registered controllers controls the fault generation associated with the predefined condition. Based on the generation of the fault, the behavior of the service can be verified.

Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for saving the state of at least one open application on a data processing system when an event forces open applications to close. The method preferably includes a step of monitoring data processing system activities to detect an event indicative of a forthcoming system shutdown action, the system shutdown action including a command which forces closing of running applications. Responsive to detecting the event, execution of said shutdown action is suspended and the state of the at least one open application is recorded. An indication that a state of the at least one running application has been recorded for reuse is stored and, following the recording and storing steps, execution of said shutdown action is restored.

Abstract: A first communication device detects a failure on a communication channel of a primary network. Based on the failure, the first communication device sends communications directed to a second communication device to a secondary network. A secondary network domain controller sends the communications to the primary network via a different communication channel. This can be done by looking at an identifier such as an IP address. This can also happen based on being able to communicate between the secondary network and the primary network via the different communication channel. The primary network then sends the communication to the second communication device. In addition, communications from the second communication device are routed in a similar manner to the first communication device. Sending the communications back into the primary network allows users to have access to features not provided by the secondary network.

Abstract: Embodiments are directed to establishing the integrity of a portion of data on at least one level of a plurality of network stack levels and automatically continuing an established federation relationship between at least two federation computer systems. In an embodiment, a first federation computer system receives a digital signature corresponding to a computer system signed by a digital signature which includes the computer system's identity and other federation relationship information configured to establish a trusted federation relationship between a first federation computer system and a second federation computer system. The first federation computer system attempts to validate the received digital signature at a first level of a network stack and determines that the validation at the first network stack layer was unsuccessful. The first federation computer system then validates the received digital signature at a second, different level of the network stack.

For example, a data processing system is disclosed that includes a decoder circuit providing a decoded output, and a dynamic scalar calculation circuit that determines a first dynamic scaling value and a second dynamic scaling value based at least in part on the decoded output. A first multiplier circuit multiplies the decoded output by the first dynamic scaling value and provides a first scaled output. A detector circuit receives the first scaled output and provides a detected output. A second multiplier circuit multiplies the detected output by the second dynamic scaling value and provides a second scaled output.

Abstract: Methods, apparatuses and systems are disclosed for preserving, verifying, and correcting data in DRAM device during a power-saving mode. In the power-saving mode, memory cells in the DRAM device may be refreshed using a self-refresh operation. This self-refresh operation may allow bit errors to occur in the DRAM device. However, by employing error correction coding (ECC), embodiments of the present invention may detect and correct these potential errors that may occur in the power-saving mode. Furthermore, a partial ECC check cycle is employed to check and correct a sub-set of the memory cells during a periodic self-refresh process that occurs during the power-saving mode.

Abstract: Techniques used in an automatic failover configuration having a primary database system, a standby database system, and an observer. In the automatic failover configuration, the primary database system remains available even in the absence of both the standby and the observer as long as the standby and the observer become absent sequentially. The failover configuration may use asynchronous transfer modes to transfer redo to the standby and permits automatic failover only when the observer is present and the failover will not result in data loss due to the asynchronous transfer mode beyond a specified maximum. The database systems and the observer have copies of failover configuration state and the techniques include techniques for propagating the most recent version of the state among the databases and the observer and techniques for using carefully-ordered writes to ensure that state changes are propagated in a fashion which prevents divergence.

In one such embodiment, controller monitors behavior parameters of the cells and determines if any of the parameters are outside of a normal range set for each one, thus indicating a fatigue condition. If any cell indicates a fatigue condition, the data from the block of cells indicating the fatigue is moved to another block. In one embodiment, an error detection and correction process is performed on the data prior to being written into another memory block.
