Abstract: A user interface is provided. The user interface may include a first portion and a second portion. The first portion may contain one or more listings corresponding to one or more entities. The second portion may include an editable surface for viewing and editing the entities. A command to drag and drop a listing corresponding to a first entity from the first portion displaying the listing into the second portion displaying a second entity is received. In response to receiving the command to drag and drop the listing from the first portion into the second portion, a link to the first entity is inserted into the second entity.

Abstract: An improved system and method are used for sharing a document between two communication devices that do not have an application that can display the document. In one example, the document is sent by the communication device that is sharing the document to a document server for processing into pages of one or more different document types, and both communication devices retrieve the stored pages as needed for display. The sharing communication device updates the other communication device when a new page is to be retrieved from the document server.

Abstract: A method of assembling situational Web-based dashboard from a wide array of web pages, digital media and components with just a few clicks and no programming, so a user can view scattered information from disparate sources on a single web-based screen. The components that can be included into dashboard pages are: live-area components created on-demand from any sub-region of any web page or web application; any rich media component such as rich text, video, picture, widget; and any office document (Microsoft Office documents and PDF etc.). Each dashboard page can contain any number of components. The size, position, location and layout of the components in the dashboard can be easily configured using a computer mouse, or through a touch screen interface. Each component in the dashboard can do auto-refresh from the source with a specified time interval, which also prevents user session timeout for secured web sites. The resulting dashboard can also be shared with others for collaboration.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for maintaining the navigation history of a web application that includes techniques for maintaining those pages that are considered valuable. The method and apparatus further include techniques for registering a visited page into the application navigation history, displaying a particular history menu of a web page, and, to pass stateful information, using a redirecting technique that includes redirecting a user to a history page to obtain the stateful information once the user has chosen a menu item.

Abstract: A method, system and non-transitory program storage device for creation of a signature on a client device comprises displaying a preview area comprising a layout being selectable by a user. The layout comprises a plurality of portions being arranged to form a signature. The portions are operable for displaying images, video, text, logos, hyperlinks and Really Simple Syndication (RSS). A displayed a data entry area is operable for accepting user inputs for presentation in the portions. Accepted user inputs are previewed in the preview area while accepting user inputs. The signature comprising portions with user inputs is saved. The saved signature is accessible to the user for attachment to electronic documents.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for a browser supporting multiple user identifying states. A plurality of browser instances are initiated on a client. One of a plurality of user identifying states is selected for each of the plurality of browser instances. Each selected user identifying state is used in a distinct session between the browser and a server.

Abstract: Additional documents are automatically located that are relevant to an original document, such as a document being read by a user, and also potentially relevant to personal information of the user. The additional documents may be located based on descriptive information that includes personal information of the user and content information of the document being read. The additional documents, or links to the additional documents, may be incorporated into the document being read. In some implementations, the additional documents may be presented in-line with the document being read, such as through an in-link link or text snippet. The user can thus be efficiently presented with additional information that is relevant to the original document being read.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for monitoring a bookmarked web page and a system and a computer program implementing such a method. A method according to an embodiment of the invention includes a first phase, including steps for storing, in association with each other, user identification data and an active version of the web page. The method further includes at least one iteration of a second phase, including a step for sending from user's browser to a network server a request for change information about the bookmarked web page since the stored version was active. On response of the server, if the web page has changed, the user has the possibility to choose to keep the stored old version of the web page or to accept the current version of the web page. The network server may be a server associated with the web page, e.g., a web site server, or an ISP server.

Abstract: To enhance the user experience for users of an application, such as a web browser, the application obtains statistics on shortened links that are displayed in an application or that are associated with displayed unshortened links. The statistics may include, for example, a number of times that content available via an unshortened link was viewed via its associated shortened link. The statistics are applied to enhance the ability of users of the application to locate relevant content. For example, the statistics may be shown in visual association with a link, or a set of links may be ordered at least in part based on the statistics associated with the links, or the links may be visually emphasized based on the statistics.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for managing bookmark information of a media server through a network based on the UPnP AV standard is disclosed. If a request for bookmarking a content item is made, a bookmark item is created and the created bookmark item is linked to the content item by adding the ID of the created bookmark item to the property information of the content item and recording the ID of the content item to be bookmarked in the created bookmark item.

Abstract: A mobile terminal and an operating method thereof are provided. The operating method includes bookmarking a plurality of websites using a touch screen of the mobile terminal, and storing a plurality of images respectively corresponding to the bookmarked plurality of websites; displaying on the touch screen an image array including the stored plurality of images in such a manner to create a sense of distance; and if a drag signal is input via a touch screen, changing at least one of the sizes of the images in the image array, at least one image in the image array, and an arrangement of the images in the image array, according to a direction and distance corresponding to the input drag signal. Therefore, it is possible to easily access and manage bookmarked websites.

Abstract: In one embodiment, common functions of hyperlinks are listed and associated with alternative terms, which may be words and phrases that are commonly used to identify hyperlinks in web pages and other documents. A common icon is associated with each common function, and a predetermined position on a display screen is assigned to each common icon. The alternative terms for each common function are compared to each of the hyperlinks in a source document. If a hyperlink matches an alternative term of a common function, the target resource locator from that hyperlink, which points to a target document, is associated with that common function. The corresponding common icon is displayed at its predetermined position on a display screen in the form of a common function hyperlink, which includes the target resource locator. Activating the common function hyperlink redirects the application to the target document.

Abstract: A computer implemented method, apparatus, and computer program product for managing access to data files. A first computer device sends a data file to a web server which hosts the data file. Responsive to sending the data file to the web server, the first computer device receives from the web server a web page link to the data file hosted at the web server. The first computer device creates, in a web browser application in the first computer device, a bookmark associated with the web page link. The first computer device then synchronizes the bookmarks in its web browser application with the bookmarks in the web browser application of a second computer device to allow a bookmark associated with the web page link to also be created in the web browser application of the second computer device.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided the for presentation of links to content to a user on webpages of a website where titles associated with the links are tuned to the user's psychographic variables. In one embodiment, a respective plurality of titles is generated for each of a plurality of content items. At least some titles are tagged with psychographic tags. When a user accesses content by selecting a link having a title that is tagged with one or more psychographic tags, the system stores a representation of such tags in association with the user. When additional links for recommended content are displayed to the user, the system selects titles for links to such content based on psychographic tags associated with the user and the titles.

Abstract: An automated website analysis system includes mechanisms for automatically reviewing a website and identifying various features of the website. In one implementation, the analysis system can rely at least in part on the actual downloading and rendering of each page in the website to determine not only aspects of website content and layout, but also whether various content, such as third party objects or source code, execute as intended. Additional features include recording user input that may be required to progress past web pages where automated site mapping would ordinarily stall. The analysis system can identify various items of interest about each web page to the website owner, including web page parent/child relationships, as well as the extent to which the given page content is consistent with its metadata descriptions.

The system may use multimedia with a synchronized text transcription, or a synchronization index, on a computing device for viewing and manipulating the multimedia, using the synchronized text transcription. The computing device may be used to navigate the multimedia, annotate the text transcription, achieve synchronous play of the multimedia, and communicate to another computer manipulations performed on the text or multimedia.

Abstract: A system and method for tagging place names with geographic location coordinates, the place names associated with a collection of objects in a memory of a computer system. The system and method process a text string within an object stored in memory to identify a first potential place name. The system and method determine whether geographic location coordinates are known for the first potential place name. The system and method identify the first potential place name associated with an object in the memory as a place name. The system and method tag the first identified place name associated with an object in the memory with its geographic location coordinates, when the geographic location coordinates for the first identified place name are known. The system and method disambiguate place names when multiple place names are found.

Abstract: Methods, devices, and computer-readable storage media that make an asynchronous JavaScript and extensible mark-up language (AJAX) application content state bookmarkable and crawlable include receiving a HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP) request is received. The HTTP request includes an HTTP request uniform resource locator (URL) representing a current application state. When the HTTP request URL contains a first reference substring, a second substring is extracted from the HTTP request URL based upon the first reference substring. A modified URL is generated based at least in part on the extracted second substring. The modified URL represents the current application content state.

Abstract: A device for managing electronic bookmarks. The device includes an element implementing a main function of managing electronic bookmarks, activated at start-up and at determined instants, except when the device switches to a stand-by mode. The element implementing the main function includes: a transmitter, allowing transmission to a server a request to obtain a preconfigured list of bookmarks, wherein the request includes a log-in of the device; a receiver, allowing the preconfigured list transmitted by the server in response to the request to be received; a display, allowing the preconfigured list to be displayed; and an element allowing a user to use the bookmarks of the preconfigured list displayed. The device does not include an element that helps in initial construction of the preconfigured list on the server nor an element that helps to add to the preconfigured list at least one additional bookmark not previously proposed by the server.

Abstract: The present invention enables users to dynamically manage historical data within documents bearing one or more links, and retain the relationships defined by the links. The present invention tracks the links not just from source documents to destination documents, but also from destination documents back to the source documents, organizes the links in a hierarchical manner based on the content/naming of the links, and displays the link information to the user in a real-time and meaningful way.

Abstract: The present invention provides methods and apparatus, including computer program products, implementing techniques for searching and ranking linked information sources. The techniques include receiving multiple content items from a corpus of content items; receiving digital signatures each made by one of multiple agents, each digital signature associating one of the agents with one or more of the content items; and assigning a score to a first agent of the multiple agents, wherein the score is based upon the content items associated with the first agent by the digital signatures.

The system and method include receiving a jump destination distribution ratio representing a ratio of jumping to each of a plurality of sites storing same contents, which varies over time, and contents including a hyperlink to which the jump destination distribution ratio is correlated, judging whether a time period elapsing from a time the contents are received until a time the hyperlink included in the contents is selected is equal to or longer than a predetermined time period, and acquiring a jump destination distribution ratio effective at a point in time at which the hyperlink is selected from the server responsive to determining that the time period elapsed is equal to or longer than the predetermined time period.

Abstract: The present invention provides methods for integrating the peer review process with other applications and facilitating peer review using a user interface linked to a peer review application having knowledge base information and defined rules for: accepting a paper for peer review, assigning the paper to one or more of a defined set of reviewers for review, providing to the reviewers one or more criteria to be used for reviewing and evaluating each paper for enabling each reviewer to create a peer review result, and processing all peer review results for any paper to produce a peer review report. Abstract: In one embodiment, a search query is received. Information identifying a bookmark representing the search query is automatically stored in association with a set of bookmarks. Search results corresponding to the search query are automatically obtained and provided, where the search results identify one or more documents. The method includes finding source documents containing links to target documents and the link anchors of the links have language indicating text. A first tuple set can be generated for paired source documents and target documents with an expected target language for a target document. The first tuple set can be annotated with primary languages for the source documents and target documents to form a second tuple set where primary languages of the source documents and target documents are different. Further, a third tuple set can be generated using the second tuple set using a count of the number of times source documents and target documents occur in the first tuple set. Tuples can be removed from the third tuple set where a count ratio between source document count and target document count is less than a reference ratio.

Abstract: An image map designer creates an image map for use with an image. The image map contains one or more hotspots, each of which specifies a set of pixels which may be non-contiguous and non-polygonal. The image map designer may create the image map using image processing software that facilitates creation of non-contiguous and non-polygonal image maps. Multiple versions of the image map may be created, each for use with a different magnification of the image. The image maps are stored in a compact format, which may be transmitted efficiently from a server to a client. Data contained within the image map facilitates the process of determining whether the client user's mouse pointer is within any of the hotspots, and the process of applying the image map to the image when rendered at different magnifications.

Abstract: In a system, in one embodiment, having a page server for transmitting pages upon request and a page client (or “web browser”) for requesting pages and presenting those pages to an operator, the page client dynamically identifies links subsequent to the loaded page and preloads pages identified by those links for subsequent presentation to the operator, so that the preloaded pages are preloaded dynamically in response to operator selections and are available for presentation to the operator when ultimately selected. The page server and the page client may act independently or may cooperate so as to dynamically select and preload pages from the page server to the page client using parameters indicated by the page client (such as parameters selected by the operator or adaptively determined by the page client), etc. The page client may dynamically save and recall behavior information about pages to be presented.

Abstract: A request is received via an input device of a computing device for a hypertext link to an item of web content rendered on a display of the computing device. It is determined whether a markup language (ML) document used to render the web content includes an existing page anchor proximate to an item reference within the ML document. The hypertext link is configured based upon the determination of whether the ML document includes the existing page anchor proximate to the item reference within the ML document. The configured hypertext link is returned in response to the request.

Abstract: An intelligent bookmark is a collection of information, including an address (e.g., a URL) for a document (e.g., web page) or other hyper-media enabled item bundled together with selected other information. The selected other information may be manually or automatically obtained from the document, the browser history leading up to the display of the document, user entered annotations, etc. A collection of intelligent bookmarks may be sorted and searched using the selected other information. Intelligent bookmarks may be exchanged between users, and users may edit the bookmark content or in layers above the bookmark. Users may rate the bookmarks. A complete system provides for creating, storing, accessing, editing, grouping, exchanging, and searching intelligent bookmarks locally and/or remotely via a server.

Abstract: A method of operation of an electronic reader system includes: identifying a first feature point on a first multimedia book when a behavior pattern matches or exceeds a threshold pattern; generating a first bookmark corresponding to the first feature point; ranking a mark importance priority of the first bookmark based on the behavior pattern; rendering the first bookmark for displaying on a display; and updating the display based on the mark importance priority.

Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product enables manipulation of a message thread created by linking two or more messages within a messaging interface of a synchronous, collaborative messaging application. The message thread is first generated by linking the plurality of messages within the messaging interface. Then manipulation of the message thread is enabled in a separate window from the messaging interface.

Abstract: Systems and methods for providing a validation tool may be configured to identify a plurality of words within a document, the document being provided in a first window within a user interface. Additionally, the systems and methods may be configured to determine, from a predetermined list that includes terms of interest, whether the words are matching words with terms of interest. The systems and methods may, in response to determining that the plurality of words are matching words with the terms of interest, highlight matching words in a document and access pieces of related data for matching words.

Abstract: A system and method of extracting information from electronic data sources that includes generating a list of file names containing the information to be extracted. Each file name in the list is read into memory, the file that corresponds to the file name is read into memory, and the information is extracted from the file by executing a series of programming instructions. The information is saved to an extracted file, and one or more file names in the list is identified to correspond to an extracted file.

Abstract: A method and system for increasing the computational and network efficiency of presence servers having collections of publications is provided. The presence system uses several techniques that enable a presence server to provide rich presence information without requiring expensive processing. First, the presence system accepts batches of publication updates in a single presence update request. Similarly, the presence system accepts batches of subscription requests. Next, the presence system supports new expiration types for publication update requests that eliminate the need for a publishing user to continually refresh presence information that has not changed. Finally, the presence system accepts access lists that contain membership groups rather than an individual list of users that are to have access to a particular presence collection.

Abstract: Embodiments of a computer system, a method and a computer-program product (e.g., software) for use with the computer system are described. These embodiments may be used to generate a set of inter-related documents. In particular, using a random or pseudorandom number generator and a translation list, an interconnected set of documents are created that are arranged in a hierarchy (such as a tree structure). The documents in this set are both deterministic and include a finite amount of variation. These properties may facilitate reproducible testing of technology related to networks, such as the Internet.

Abstract: A system for social bookmarking of a resource provided through a Web application that doesn't follow the representational state transfer architectural style (REST). When processing a request for a social bookmarking operation, the system searches for a URL and potentially other resource information within the document object model of a currently loaded Web page. If such resource information is found, it is used to process the requested social bookmarking operation. Otherwise, if such resource information is not found in the document object model, the system uses the URL stored in the location bar of the Web browser to process the requested social bookmarking operation. The system includes semantic information in the DOM of a Web page that is used to identify subsets of content within the Web page that can be socially bookmarked. The semantic information may be stored in what is generally referred to as “microformatting”.

Bookmarks reference a location within the media stream, not necessarily pre-selected and possibly dynamically selected, in which a presentation can be started or restarted therefrom. Watchpoints reference a location within the media stream, or a presentation state for the media stream, in which an action can be triggered thereby. Bookmarks and watchpoints provide a general technique for presenting selections from media streams in response to metadata.

Abstract: The present invention is a system and method for computer optimization of content and reusing documents. The invention provides integrated user interfaces to facilitate reuse of static or dynamic content. The system further includes on a display, a first window and a second window where the system includes programming instructions operable to control the processing unit to output to the first window the content of memory. The content output to the first window is simultaneous to output being displayed in the second window of the separate program. Each of these programs may reside in the same memory space or different memory space. The separate program can provide documents or content to be used in the first window. The system further includes programming instructions operable to transform selections retrieved from documents of the second window into content for the first window.

Abstract: Links in a system may be displayed at varying prominence based on user interaction with the links. Link paths chosen by users become apparent by virtue of display prominence of the links. A link may be displayed with greater or lesser prominence corresponding to the propensity of users to interact with the link. Prominence values that affect a prominence at which links are displayed may be modified based on user interaction information. Prominence values may further automatically decay, possibly over time or according to user interaction with the links. Using and modifying prominence values in this manner, links that emerge with greater prominence may form one or more “paths” that users can readily follow. Much as in the natural world where pheromones deposited by ants attract other ants to desirable paths, user interaction information can be advantageously used to automatically identify more desirable link paths to a resource.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method for providing workspace navigation with a tag cloud. The computer-implemented method may include identifying a set of launch items within a workspace. The computer-implemented method may also include displaying the tag cloud in a graphical user interface. Each tag in the tag cloud may be associated with one or more launch items from the set of launch items. The computer-implemented method may further include receiving, from the graphical user interface, a selection of a tag from the tag cloud. The computer-implemented method may include using the selected tag to identify a subset of launch items within the set of launch items. The computer-implemented method may also include identifying a request to launch at least one launch item in the subset of launch items and launching the at least one launch item. Various other methods, systems, and computer-readable media are also disclosed.

Abstract: A method and system for capturing missed communications is provided. An enhanced real-time communication system receives a communication from an initiating participant for a receiving participant that is not available. The enhanced real-time communication system detects that the receiving participant missed the received communication from the initiating participant. Upon detecting that the receiving participant missed the communication, the enhanced real-time communication system stores the missed communication for later retrieval by the receiving participant.

The processing unit directs the display device to display a list according to the connection information when the transmitting interface connects to the computer system. The list includes at least one choice. When the at least one choice is selected, the display device displays a homepage of a specific website.

Abstract: A computer-based method and system for processing links in a markup language document are provided. The method includes providing a specification in computer memory, the specification including at least one link description rule and at least one link processing rule for processing links which satisfy the link description rule. A markup language document is input to computer memory and links in the markup language document are processed in accordance with the link description rule(s) and link processing rule(s) of the specification to generate processed data. The processed data includes at least one of a modified markup language document and data derived from the markup language document.
