Abstract: Methods and apparatus for generating, distributing, and/or presenting social networking content in conjunction with video content are described. In accordance with various embodiments, social networking related information, e.g., comments, remarks and/or a twitter feed, are displayed in conjunction with the display of video to which the social networking information relates. The social networking related information may be displayed on the same or a different device from that which is used to display the video comments. In some embodiments, the social networking information, e.g., comments on a program, event or broadcast, are displayed on a personal computer or other device such as a mobile telephone, while video content is being viewed, e.g., on a television which is provided video content via a set top box. A knowledgeable moderator can review, supplement, add and delete comments in real time enhancing the overall social networking session.

Abstract: A user may employ a user device (e.g., a television (TV) and a set-top box (STB)) to access a television system via a network. The television system may include one or more content servers (CSs) (e.g., a VOD server, an HTTP server, or other media server) for providing, among other things, a VOD service to the user and a broadcast transmission system for transmitting a multitude of linear television channels. Television system and/or user device is/are operable to enable the user to interact with an enhanced TV service (ETS) that allows the user to easily navigate among various different programmed linear channels (a.k.a., “streaming channels”) and VOD services. The ETS may be hosted in the television system, in user device, or in a combination of the two.

Abstract: An interactive video/multimedia application (IVM application) may specify one or more media assets for playback. The IVM application may define the rendering, composition, and interactivity of one or more the assets, such as video. Video multimedia application data (IVMA data may) be used to define the behavior of the IVM application. The IVMA data may be embodied as a standalone file in a text or binary, compressed format. Alternatively, the IVMA data may be embedded within other media content. A video asset used in the IVM application may include embedded, content-aware metadata that is tightly coupled to the asset. The IVM application may reference the content-aware metadata embedded within the asset to define the rendering and composition of application display elements and user-interactivity features. The interactive video/multimedia application (defined by the video and multimedia application data) may be presented to a viewer in a player application.

Abstract: Described herein is a system that generates and displays an interactive timeline for a teleconference session, where the interactive timeline includes a representation of supplemental recorded content that has been added after a live viewing of the teleconference session has ended. The system can inject the supplemental recorded content into previously recorded content or append the supplemental recorded content to the interactive timeline. Moreover, the system can cause the supplemental recorded content to subsequently be displayed in one of multiple different views. Furthermore, the system can generate and/or distribute a notification of the supplemental recorded content so that participants to the teleconference session can be made aware of additional activity contributed to the teleconference session (e.g., by someone who missed the live viewing of the teleconference session).

Abstract: A display apparatus, a method for executing an application thereof, an external device remotely controlling the display apparatus, and a method for providing an application control screen thereof are provided. The display apparatus includes a display that displays an application execution screen, the application execution screen displaying an application; a communication unit that communicates with an external server and an external device that remotely controls the display apparatus; and a control unit that transmits to the external device a generation signal that instructs the external device to generate an application control screen in response to receiving an input command to execute the application, controls the communication unit to receive a command from the external device input through the application control screen, and operates the application according to the received command.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a set-top box records playback content. The playback content comprises at least one frame that displays first media content and a first advertisement simultaneously. Moreover, the first advertisement is associated with an expiry date. The set-top box receives a selection to view the playback content on a viewing date and determines that the viewing date is past the expiry date associated with the first advertisement. When the viewing date is past the expiry date associated with the first advertisement, the set-top box updates the playback content by replacing the first advertisement in the at least one frame of the playback content with a second advertisement. The set-top box communicates the updated playback content to a display device. The updated playback content comprises at least one frame that displays media content and the second advertisement simultaneously.

An exemplary embodiment receives a member dialog video from a community member who is a member of a plurality of community members, wherein the member dialog video includes video and audio portions, and wherein the member dialog video expresses at least one of a personal opinion and a personal viewpoint about the thematic content event; generates dialog text from the audio portion of each received member dialog video, wherein the dialog text comprises words and phrases spoken by the community member in the member dialog video; receives a modified thematic content event; compares the words and phrases of the dialog text with the plurality of keywords; and associates at least one portion of the member dialog video having the words and phrases of the dialog text that match with the matching keyword of the anchor point.

The system further includes a selection component configured to select a subset of links included in a set of links associated with the video to provide with the video when it is played in response to the request based in part on a number of links included in the set of links, wherein graphical elements respectively representative of the links included in the subset of links are configured to be displayed over the video when the video is played in response to the request.

The content that depicts the one or more stories is grouped into an edition being used to represent the one or more stories. A discovery page that enables selection of the edition is generated. Abstract: Application/document collaboration in a multi-device environment is provided. An application and associated document or other content, for example, a spreadsheet application and associated spreadsheet documents and content may be displayed on one or more endpoint display devices. A presenter may control the application/document from another device, for example, a smartphone, tablet-style computer, laptop computer, desktop computer, and the like. User interactions on the presenter control device may be reflected on the display device, including, document navigation, document editing, document entry, and the like. Document content may be previewed on the control device before it is sent to the display device. Document metadata and/or presenter notes/comments, etc., may be displayed only on the control device, but not on the display device, as desired by the presenter/user.

Abstract: The various embodiments described herein include methods and systems for presenting interactive media items. In one aspect, a method includes publishing, by a server system, an interactive media item, the publishing comprising providing access for a playback of the interactive media item based on metadata for the interactive media item. The metadata is generated using information associated with the interactive media item and including a mapping of an effect parameter for a first effect of the one or more effects to a touch input gesture. Playback includes, in response to detecting a first user input gesture corresponding to the touch input gesture, applying the first effect to the presented interactive media item. The applying of the first effect includes determining the effect parameter according to one or more characteristics of the first user input gesture, based on the mapping of the effect parameter to the touch input gesture.

Abstract: A multimedia device determines that the user is attempting to tune to a channel. In response to the determination, the multimedia device identifies a list of channels likely to be the channel to which the user is attempting to tune. The multimedia device displays a channel tuning banner that allows the user to select a channel from the list, thereby causing the multimedia device to tune to the selected channel. In another context, users want to locate scheduling information for a particular channel within an electronic program guide (EPG). Thus, a multimedia device receives search criteria from a user and uses the search criteria to dynamically filter the EPG while the user is interacting with the EPG. As a result, the user is presented with a reduced number of EPG entries to look through in order to find relevant information.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to systems and methods for modifying graphical element according to an environment. In one example, a method includes receiving inputs from one or more environmental detectors that indicate an environment, receiving identification of one or more graphical elements at a graphical user interface, and modifying the identified graphical elements to adjust member effort interacting with the identified graphical elements and according to the environment of the system.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems and methods for causing a stunt switcher to run a bug-removal digital-video effect (DVE). In one aspect, a method involves selecting a first log-entry from a traffic log, wherein the first log-entry corresponds to a bug-removal DVE stored in the stunt switcher; selecting a second log-entry from the traffic log, wherein the second log-entry corresponds to a show-segment video-component (VC) and a start time; causing the VC to start being channeled through the stunt switcher proximate the start time; making a determination that a threshold time-period remains in a show portion of the VC; and responsive to making the determination that the threshold time-period remains in the show portion of the VC, causing the stunt switcher to run the stored bug-removal DVE, thereby removing any bug overlayed on the VC as a remainder of the VC is being channeled through the stunt switcher.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for managing a subscription to a plurality of content providers and the irretrievably referring users to an interface of the content provider to directly consume media programs provided by the content providers is disclosed. The method irretrievably passes users to content providers so that the user can view media programs from those content providers using the content provider's application, while providing a central source for users to locate media programs available from a plurality of content providers and to subscribe for access to such media programs. This construct permits content providers to retain control over the user viewing experience and to encourage the user to view further media programs from the same content provider.

Abstract: A novel method for retiming a portion of a media content (e.g., audio data, video data, audio and video data, etc.) in a media-editing application is provided. The media editing application includes a user interface for defining a range in order to select a portion of the media content. The media editing application performs retiming by applying a speed effect to the portion of the media content selected by the defined range. For a faster speed effect, the media editing application retimes the selected portion of the media content by sampling the media content at a faster rate. For a slower speed effect, the media editing application retimes the selected portion of the media content by sampling the content at a slower rate.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides devices and techniques for processing a media capture stream captured by a camera device using a chain device media foundation transform (DMFT). The techniques include configuring multiple DMFTs such that an original manufacturer (OEM) may have flexibility in independently selecting various functionalities from different sources (e.g., OS, OEM, IHV, ISV, or VARs) in order to maximize hardware capabilities while minimizing the drawbacks of creating a single DMFT. To that end, the implementation of the present disclosure includes a devices and techniques of chainable DMFTs such that a device transform manager may select a set of functionalities (e.g., face recognition, color effects, etc.) from multiple vendors to customize the camera's capabilities according to the OEM specification.

Abstract: A portable electronic device and a touch operation method thereof are provided. When the portable electronic device is at an image capturing mode, a touch event on a touch screen is detected. Next, a shooting countdown time is determined according to a location of an end point of the touch event on a predetermined path. The user directly enables a timed shooting function and sets a shooting countdown time at the same time by dragging a shutter button, which provides the convenience while operation.

A user may access to the personal TV service center through a remote computer terminal or a personal digital assistant which is connected to a computer network. The user selects program events and programs the digital video recorder by using a graphical user interface installed in the front panel of the digital video recorder in case of local programming, or using a similar GUI which is incorporated into the Web pages presented to remote users by a Web server in case of remote programming. The media stream stored in one digital video recorder may be transferred to another digital video recorder.

Abstract: A system for integrating infrared remote controls of home appliances includes a smart electronic device, a transmission device and multiple conversion devices. The smart electronic device is collaborated with the transmission device to transmit a wireless control signal. The multiple conversion devices are respectively mounted on multiple home appliances. After receiving the wireless control signal, a selected conversion device converts the wireless control signal into an infrared remote control code that is further transmitted to a corresponding home appliance for remote control. Because of transmission using radio signals between the transmission device and the multiple conversion devices, there is no concern for communication failure arising from obstruction, limited distance and high directivity demanding to be within a receiving angle upon remote control. As only one remote control is used, operational convenience increases.

Abstract: Some embodiments described herein provide an application that includes a scrollable in-line camera for capturing and sharing media content. In some embodiments, the in-line camera is provided in a scrollable view of the application. The scrollable view has three distinct user interface portions, including an in-line camera section, a preview section, and a shared content section. The application's user can use the in-line camera section to capture a photo or a video clip. The preview section is a portion of the UI that allows a user to review a photo or video captured with the in-line camera. The user can also use the preview section to either delete or accept the content. If the user chooses to delete the content, the content is removed from the preview section. If the user chooses to accept the content, the content appears in the content sharing section.

The media recordings may be media items that include audio and image data captured by a user device. The media feed may include media data that corresponds to the live event and includes content that is similar to the media item recorded by the user device but may have been derived from a higher quality recording or include supplemental data. In an aspect, the state of the user includes a mood of the user. A selection component then selects a media item provided by the media provider based on the state of the user, and a rendering component effectuates rendering of the media item to the user during the current session.

Abstract: Some implementations include searching for and analyzing public-domain-status information about works (such as e-books) over the Internet. A computer system may search for works recently made available online that are categorized as being in the public domain. Associated metadata is analyzed to generate a confidence level regarding whether the works are in the public domain or protected by copyright. Based on the confidence level, decisions can be made, such as whether to make the works available for free in a particular country.
